- Answer I have Century Link and this has been working great. I have used this modem for about a month now. It also costs a lot less than buying a modem from Century Link!

- Answer The ADSL2+ Modem connects to the internet through your phone line, because the phone line is how the DSL internet connection is made. You connect the computer to the modem's network connections (wired or wireless) and then connect a phone line from the modem to the phone outlet on the wall. You may have to contact your Internet Service Provider so they can register the new modem on your line, if this is a replacement modem on an existing internet service.

- Answer Yes the DSL is over the Phone line and this comes with the inline filter to split this signal on the phone Line.

QuestionDo I have to have an active line in my home to use this with a router?I don't have internet in my home and was wondering could I use this with a router to have access to the internet?

- Answer You will need to setup internet service with your telephone provider. So if AT&T covers your area you'd call AT&T to get internet service. AT&T will then activate internet on your phone line. This modem then allows you to access the internet provided by AT&T using your telephone line. However, the service provider (AT&T in this example) will send a technician to install their equipment as part of the internet service anyway. This modem would be for people who want to own their equipment rather than have AT&T equipment in their home. (Note: AT&T is just an example provider. Verizon is another example. There are other providers too.)

- Answer Yes, the ADSL signal is transmitted to your residence over a regular phone line by the telco ISP. No ISP = no DSL.

- Answer You need to look for a cable modem. The Netgear DM111PSP is a DSL modem, which won't work for you.

- Answer No. xfinity is Comcast. Comcast is cable internet. This is for ADSL which is telephone line based. If the plug in your wall for internet is a telephone jack, it is ADSL. If your internet provider is not a "telephone" company (ATT, Windstream, Verizon) then it is probably not ADSL. Here is a list of approved devices for Comcast. http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/

- Answer No, I don't think so. Speed is rarely dependent upon the modem; rather, it is mostly dependent upon the quality of the line bringing in the ADSL signal AND the number of users on the switch or router at the telco office. Yet, modems can be damaged by voltage surges as well as overheating in poorly ventilated areas. If in doubt, try another modem. The Netgear modem is inexpensive enough to keep on hand as a spare, but you will need a router with it.

- Answer Indeed, YES. I did replace the very same modem that you mention with this model of the Netgear. Keep in mind that the Westel 6100G is an older model. In fact, one can replace any ADSL modem with any other as far as function is concerned. However, some telco's use the previous modem's MAC address as verification of a legitimate user, so you may have to get tech support to reset their database with your new modem's MAC address.

QuestionMy ISP (CenturyLink) is telling me that this modem will not support or run with 25mbps DSL and I will have to use their modem, is this true?ISP tells me that the Netgear ADSL+2 will not work with 25 Mbps internet and I will have to use their modem/router combo. Is this true or will I be able to utilize my Netgear?

- Answer NO-find another one compatible These are still being sold as being compatible with ISP-broadband through Century Link. About month ago my ISP stop working, and bought another modem thinking modem went bad. This modem is no longer compatible Century Link broadband.
