A:Answer Some hubs are capable of controlling many types of devices, and others are limited to specific products, most often ones that the manufacturer also makes. The Philips Hue system is fairly specialized, and to my knowledge is geared toward bulbs, since that was their core business in the beginning. To control other hardware type home automation devices, you will need a hub that "generalizes" or "specializes" in those devices. I use Insteon, mainly because I'm 100% windows, including my cell. There are other manufacturers systems, and there are many manufacturers that make hundreds of devices for many of the different systems.
I purchased an Echo, and an Echo Dot gen 2, and use both of them to control both my Insteon devices and my Hue bulbs... if you're familiar with the "Skills" for your Echo, open them, and search for whatever Hub or system you're using, and the appropriate skill will pop up. As soon as the skill is installed, the systems and bulbs just work, with the proper commands.
