Yes - it can backup important files from your hard drive. I wouldn't say it can backup the whole hard drive, but it can hold all your important documents, pictures, video, and music. I bought one and used it for backing up important files on my hard drive and my hard drive crashed 2 weeks later. It was easy to put the files on the new drive - really a life saver. You can also use a program from Microsoft to help setup your backup files. It is called SyncToy, is free, and you just download it.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. As long as you have enough space...it WILL take a while.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, it can back up a hard drive if the hard drive has less storage than the flash drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.it will backup some files but a typical hard drive is much larger, thus you'll run out of space.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Given that some of the space is formatted, ALWAYS overestimate the amount of space you'll need. I'd hate for you to run out of space right towards the end of a data transfer. Generally, jump drives are faster and more reliable than a drive that spins, so I say GO FOR IT!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, with the proper ghosting software, as long as the hard drive (with its OS intact) is smaller (measured in Gb's) than the flash drive. If you know how to load from the flash to a 2nd machine, you can effectively carry your entire computer around on the flash drive, then load it into any machine you choose, like with any version of Linux. It's easy, though content/settings changes should only be made on the original machine, then re-ghosted to the flash (presuming the 2nd tier machines don't have the ghost-ware).
