Not sure about your Sony receiver setup but my Pioneer receiver needs to be set up certain way to pair the speaker with the subwoofer. You might want to google the correct set up for your receiver.

If you have checked ALL connections to be well secured, then may be take it back to Best Buy and have them hook it up to their system and check it. This will show if there was a problem with your receiver.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.On your receiver, adjust the sound field. If the sound field is not adjusted it will cancel itself out from the receiver. Nothing is wrong with sub woofer , its powered and will kick itself off. Make sure the receiver is set to 5.1 to make sure all speakers get sound connection. Whatever you are playing make sure the receiver is set to that function. Example: playing a Dvd set receiver to Dvd. Make sure to balance subs and front speakers. If not, one will overpower the other and cancel out.
