QuestionWhat is the service fee for and how much does it cost.

- Answer It costs nothing to record Over The Air broadcasts. To have all the features available through an internet connection, they require you to activate it by creating an account, but they ask for no payment info even though while going through the process it looks like they might. No service fee and activated for the life of the box.

- Answer No. Just hook it up per the directions. Tip, if you have a ethernet cable, use it for the initial set up. I did mine wireless, had a few issues, but after awhile it was cleared up. A good wireless signal, and a good antenna are key. Have been using mine for a few weeks now, all going smooth. One of the best things is the App from Tivo. Can basically do everything from the app!! Hope this helps.

QuestionIf I want to take the recorder with me to an area where there is no tv reception, can I just play shows I’ve already recorded? (Without re-programming for the area?)

- Answer I have not tried it, but I would think so. The recordings are on the hard drive and it wouldn't know that you move it. I would expect you would be able to do what you are trying to do.

QuestionCan I “copy” a show I’ve recorded to some type of media to take to a completely different TV to watch? More specifically, could a DVD burner be attached, or a USB flash drive? Would the format be such that another TV could read it?

- Answer This works perfectly with my 4K Samsung smart TV but some older shows that were NOT originally high-def are NOT super-sharp I asked a Best Buy sales person and both now and for the foreseeable future OTA broadcasts will continue to remain in 1080p so this should be fine for several years. You would want an spdif optical cable to connect the Tivo to your surround sound system if you have one though if not I would imagine you would still need an audio cable but I use a HK surround sound receiver but as for a video any 1080p high-def HDMI cable should work to connect this to your TV. If your TV is real old it may have a backwards compatible DVI port for which you would need either a special cable or an adapter for this to work but this should work fine with most TVs my old TV that had the DVI port was so old (bought in 2003 or so) it was a CRT 150 pound 34" Toshiba monster of a device taking two strong men to lift it and requiring me to reinforce my entertainment center even.

- Answer Tivo OTA does not require a subscription. The guide is good and you can record 4 channels at one time. Remember it only works with an antenna. No cable or satellite.

- Answer No, VCRs had this feature in the past to save tape. But digital recordings are files and Tivo locks the quality of the recording to the best possible resolution. However 1tb is alot especially if you watch and delete. I have about 50 recordings on my Tivo right now and its 33% full. HD 1080p TV shows use the most typically 2% per sporting 3 hour event like superbowl. If you like to use DVR as a file server to store shows long term it might fill up and I would recommend offloading the shows to external storage for long term. I read somewhere on Tivo forum I believe that its possible to swap out the 1tb for larger drives with the system formating the drive for you. But really I dont think you are going to fill it up just watching TV.
