The standard PS5 ($499) can play game and movie discs in addition to downloads, while the digital one ($399) can only play downloaded titles.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The console edition has an optical disk drive which I guess supports blue-ray disks too, in this version you can play with physical disks. But if you are only into playing ps4 games you bought already from their stores, you should go for the digital edition which doesn't have an optical disk drive. But if you are into playing a ton of games, I prefer getting the console edition, because you might end up with low storage though external drives can be used.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.the main difference is the fact that the 499 console can play both physical games and 4K blurays/standard blurays and dvds. hence it being called the physical edition. it can play physical media. the cheaper 399 can only play digital games bought from the psn store. you can't play physical media on the all digital edition.
