  • QuestionCompatible with PS5?

    Asked by Filo.

    • Answer Sony has yet to release a list of compatible SSDs, but many are guessing this will be one. I would hold off for a curated list from PlayStation before I’d preorder or purchase one now.

  • QuestionThe specs say this is only a Gen 3x4, but the title states that it is a Gen 4x4, which is it?

    Asked by Stevo.

    • Answer From the reviews on best buy the box image from customers shows its a gen 4, but you’re right best buy needs to correct their specs information for this product.

  • QuestionDoes this come with a heatsink?

    Asked by SCA.

    • Answer No, it does not come with a heatsink. From the reviews I have seen a heatsink is recommended. This drive does get hot in use. If there is one on the motherboard use that slot or buy a heatsink. You can use it without one but may run into thermal throttling issues with large data transfers and a shortened lifespan.

  • QuestionMy read speed is 7000 and my write is only 4100. What can I do to improve this?

    Asked by Sybrik.

    • Answer Your read speed is correct, your write could be related to programs running in the background or something like your OS being run from the drive you're testing (the SN 850) last but not least - if you're on a a PCI-Express 4.0 motherboard that isn't an x570 (like B550) it could be that you're losing some lanes to the combination of a graphics card in your PCI-Express 4.0 slot in addition to this card. For optimal performance a x570 motherboard where the drive is being run by the 4.0 lanes provided by the chipset versus the alternative M2 slot that is run by the CPU can give small gains!

  • QuestionIs the $40 price difference between this one and 'WD - WD_BLACK SN850 1TB Internal PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe Gaming Solid State Drive with Heatsink for Desktops' only due to the absence of the heat sink?

    Asked by Ayaz.

    • Answer I would buy the $40 cheaper one, and then just order a heatsink from the internet. You can find them for around $5-15

  • QuestionWork on a PS5?

    Asked by JamesonK.

    • Answer Hello Sera, Please be informed “Based on Sony’s published requirements, we can confirm our WD_BLACK SN850 NVMe SSD with Heatsink (500GB-2TB) meets the stated requirements to expand console storage on the PlayStation 5 for those with access to the PlayStation 5 Beta software. Compatibility testing is in progress.” We will upgrade that to yes it works once we are able to complete compatibility testing. It is important to not push non-heatsink since Sony specified heatsink version.

  • Questionis this compatible with a a320m-dgs? thank you

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Yes, that board will accept nvme drives, but only gen 3. This is a gen 4 nvme ssd. It will work, but it will be signifcantly throttled. Better to just buy the SN750 (gen3 version), it's cheaper and would pretty much work the same on that board as the SN850 would

  • Questionis this a PICe 4.0 x 4 drive? on the specs it says its a PCIe Gen 3 x4

    Asked by corgrall.

    • Answer According to the manufacturer this is PCIe Gen 4. Maybe the Gen 3 refers to backwards compatibility. I believe it will work with Gen 3 but you will not get the advertised speeds due to hardware limitations. So for Gen 3 I would get the SN750.
