A:AnswerI have not used a password on my HD. I would say that password protection is the capability to protect your data with a password. Password authentication is the process of entering your password to access your protected data.
A:AnswerJust happened to me as well. Turned out the drive died, and I have to pay s/h to return it to get a new one. This part sucks. Run the WD diagnostics app they gave you when you got the drive to see if yours is damaged. Mine showed there is 0b on the disk and that is why it isnt showing up. Its like it was never formatted.
A:AnswerI would advise caution. I used this drive to backup 3 backup sources, and it died after 8 months. You may want to keep all your original data sources in place and/or get another drive to backup this one.
A:AnswerThe WD My Book is for desktop use. You need AC power. That is, you need to plug it into a wall outlet for power.
The My Passport is a a portable that draws power from your computer. It's made to be small and portable.
Choose the one that suits your needs best.
I never use portable hard drives for long term storage. Too many chances for accidents and loss.
A:AnswerDon't know about the XP comparability, but there is no on/off switch. Although it has its own power source, once plugged into your computer, the unit turns on and off with the computer.
A:AnswerI don't think I would use it for Gaming as they are not fast enough (unless you are playing chess) , it may be USB 3.0 but the drive is not actually fast enough to utilize that. Get a WD black internal drive or an SSD drive for gaming
A:AnswerYes. If you plug your phone into your computer and transfer the photos and whatever else you want to the drive it will work. I don't think it has a wireless feature to do straight from your phone to the drive.
A:AnswerOnly if that system is mentioned in the setup directions. You can always try it out. If it doesn't work for you, you can always return it. Nothing Ventured....Nothing Gained.
A:AnswerWith Dish, their dvr only recognizes 2tb external drives (those that require a power cord) or smaller, Has to do with the way it formats the drive initially. Best Buy salesperson swore larger drive would be recognized. It wasn't. Drive would spin endlessly when formatting. Best Buy accepted my return.
