You can work off an external drive the same as you can an internal one. The problem will arise when your program goes looking for a drive it is configured to work with that is not connected at the moment. Although you could, I would advise not loading programs to the external drive, rather using it for data storage only.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yep, PC sees it as just another drive so you can just put files directly on it and also seems pretty fast if you use USB3 port.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If I understand what you are looking for, then yes. When you plug the device in Windows will install drivers and you will have it mapped as a drive. You can access the drive in Windows Explorer just like any other usb drive. It does have backup software bundled with it that can be installed but not necessary to use the drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. One can save and open files on the WD Passport, so it can be used both as a backup, and an external, drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Sounds to me you are looking for a NAS hard drive, which this is not.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think that I understand your question. I use mine as an external hard drive and work with live data from it all of the time. It works very much like a thumb drive that holds a great deal of information. I often have to take files back and forth to work and to the church where I volunteer and it seems to work well. I have had no hiccups thus far.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you can. It is very fast you will be surprised if how well you can work off of it
