Bought the Amazon Smart Thermostat, worked fine at first. But when it got hot outside in April. Decided to turn on A/C and the Amazon Thermostat was blowing out Hot Air. Called Amazon for assistance and they couldn't help me. So I bought the Google Nest Learning Thermostat. It's Fantastic. The word of the day is. Dont Buy Cheap, you get what you pay for !!!!

Device repeated becomes unresponsive at random times, horrible when it happens at night and my house is dropping to 63 degrees when I have it set at 68, says it’s “heating” but nothing is happening

We replaced our basic digital thermostat with this so we would have more control of scheduling the heating/cooling of our home. Installation could not have been easier, since we replace one Honeywell with this and the wiring block was exactly the same. Connection to our Amazon home automation was simple, and I love the “Auto” setting that allows us to keep our home temp inside a comfortable range… I used to have to switch between cool or heat depending on the weather. Not any more!!!
I highly recommend this, especially for the price!

For the price, it is hard to criticize this device. It does everything it needs to and more sometimes. It was a very easy installation and it looks very nice as it is sleep discrete. The one gripe I do have with it is the manual controls on the thermostat itself. Theres no easy way to go from say cool to heat without cycling through eco, cool with fan, cool without fan, heat with whatever and so on. Lots of clicks to turn it off or cycle through. The app works and looks great too in my opinion, though at times it can take a minute to load up the thermostat. Overall though, very good device and even better if you can be patient

Tested out several of these smart t-stats over the years. Feelings on this one are a bit mixed. Basic 3 touch button Up/Down and Mode select control on the device itself. Any configuration beyond that must be done in the app. Though too many modes to cycle through (for forced air systems) and operational details is poorly documented. Does not support more advanced 2-stage setups or a backup heat source.
Display brightness is adjustable for both active and inactive. No motion sensor so only wakes up when physically touched. With forced air operation isn't just Heat/Cool or Off, but can keep toggling for AutoHeat/Cool and then Heat/Cool with Fan On (or in circulate mode, configured in the app). So that's 10 taps before it round-robins. If not paying attention can inadvertently set the fan to always running. IMO, for the less technical the over-minimalist controls make it less user friendly. An actual touch screen (even a tiny one) and UI would make operation far more intuitive.
~3-in sq in size and does include a wide wall plate. Covering up existing holes or old paint from a previous device shouldn't be an issue. A significant advantage is this sounds to have actual relays for call control. Most these smart models use microscopic MOSFETS. But an electro-mechanical relay offers far more protection. More likely to just blow the 10¢ fuse at the furnace with a possible short than damage more expensive electronics like this. Relays should be mandatory in HVAC controls. A fuse is meant to protect electronics, not the other way around!
This T-stat gets points for build quality, but having used touch screen models before I'm not sold on the user experience aspect of it. On sale it's a worth a consideration but not at MSRP.

Simple to install (with minimal knowledge of thermostat and electrical stuff) and just so versatile. Connected it for my wife and she loves that Alexa has the ability to detect if we’re home so that it automatically switches the temperatures to be more energy efficient. That coupled with the fact that newer Echo devices can detect the temperature in certain rooms to help the thermostat cool based on said room. Highly recommend it for those who are looking for ways to alter temperature at night without getting out of bed or for those who are out and about and want to keep tabs on there energy use

This thermostat is just as the title says. Worth every penny. To be able to control the A/C from the amazon echos or the alexa app is super convenient. The alexa app also displays how much energy you have used and saved. Additionally, the app checks for discount programs depending on what electricity provider you have and helps you easily sign up. I am more than in love with thos thermostat. Easy to set up as well. Watch some youtube videos and you’re installed in about 5 min. Set up takes another 5.
