Customers admire the Back-UPS Pro BX1000M-LM60 1KVA Tower UPS for its long battery life, ease of use, and reliable performance, frequently praising the clear display and compact size. However, some users found the closely spaced outlets inconvenient and noted that the price point might be a concern for some. A few also mentioned the unit's weight and audible alarm as potential drawbacks.

No one said that I would have to open it up
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The UPS works fine, after I opened it up and connected the batteries inside. It had a label stating that all tests were passed - so how could they have tested it with the batteries disconnected?? Look for the flashing 'empty battery' symbol on the LED screen. If it is there, go ahead and open it up, look for the wire and plug onto the batteries.

Posted .Thank you for taking the time to review our UPS. Yes the batteries would be disconnected while they are boxed up to prevent the internal batteries from discharging. This also prevents the unit from being turned on during transit as well. You would want to make sure the battery connection is secure when first unboxing and installing the UPS.

Bad battery
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Item was returned. I had just purchased it and two days later the power went out. It only lasted 30 minutes. The only devices plugged in were a DVR and a small monitor for the camera system.

Posted .Thank you for taking the time to review our UPS. I apologize that the runtime wasn't long as expected. The runtime may be lower because the equipment connected to the UPS pulls more power than expected. To get 30 minutes of runtime from this UPS the load would be at around 140 watts. If the load is much lower than that please do not hesitate to reach out to an APCbySchneider support team. We would be happy to assist you in resolving any issues with our units. Posted .Thank you for taking the time to review our software. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about our software. I will pass it along to my colleagues in engineering. If you are interested in having a more detailed event log I would check out our SmartUPS line. It would give you the option to use PowerChute Business Edition which would have a more detailed event log.

Not quite sure
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It has a site wiring fault indicator that comes on just very, very slightly on certain circuits. All APC could recommend was to exchange the unit. I had the residential system checked by an electrician who found no problems other than the voltage tends to run 121 - 123.

Posted .Thank you for taking the time to review our unit. I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with our unit. There is 3 reasons why the site wiring fault would shows up on the unit. The first reason would be an overload neutral where there is more 5 volts being measured between neutral and ground. The second reason would be because of reversed polarity where hot and neutral wires are reversed. The third reason would be of a missing ground wire in the outlet.

SERVICE REVIEW-Not a "product" review!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For my own selfish reason, I must make more public knowledge of this order. BUT-I ordered this item BRAND NEW, but what I recieved was on OPENED, USED item that was a Customer Return. Even the return address label on the box showed "Best Buy Return Center" as part of the address. I went throught the return process myself, and had them reship me another unit. GUESS WHAT!!_ AGAIN I received an OPENED USED item, but thisone had chips, scratches, and the battery door was broken off. NOW IF the normal store procedure is to OPEN AND TEST this item before shipping I do not know, but that should be made aware to any potential buyer thinking they are getting a NEW item.

A battery backup that is actually interesting.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had home computer system battery backup or uninterruptible power supply (UPS), as they're commonly called, for about 10 years. In that time, I can't say its ever saved me from losing any really important work, but it has allowed my PC to sail through an unknown number of those irritating, momentary power outages that would normally cause a PC to immediately shutdown and lose whatever work you hadn't saved. So, I guess it has given me peace of mind. But, after nearly 10 years, I've been thinking I should replace my old one and that's why I requested this APC Back-UPS Pro BX1000M-LM60 Battery Back-Up System when it became available through Best Buy's Tech Insider Network. If you ever use your desktop PC to do any important work you wouldn't want to lose, then you would definitely benefit from enhancing your system with a UPS. Or if you'd simply like to keep your home network operating for an hour or more during a localized power outage, then you could dedicate a UPS to your modem and router. There are also many other home uses for these devices besides powering desktop computers and networks during a power outage. Uses such as backup power for cordless landline phones, cellphone recharging, home entertainment devices, greenhouse seedling heating mats, fish aquarium pumps, security devices, and even alarm clocks & storm radios (Who can ever remember to replace the 9v backup battery in those things anyway?). For something that's basically a heavy battery in a box, I'm impressed with how far these devices have come in the last 10 years. I'm most impressed with the monitoring ability that my new APC UPS offers on the device itself and through the downloadable companion software PowerChute Personal Edition (think a parachute saving your stuff...cute). I never knew the status of my old UPS. I guess I just hoped for the best. On my new APC UPS I can touch any button on the front and see a display showing the connected equipment power load in watts or % of UPS capacity, estimated minutes of run time based on the connected load, number of switch-to-battery events, the current battery charge, line voltage in, voltage out, alarm mute status, and the UPS online status. I can use the PowerChute software to monitor the performance history of the UPS over the last 24 weeks. It tells me the number and length of blackouts, under/over voltage incidents, and electrical noise problems. Electrical noise causes "dirty" electricity which can degrade and damage your sensitive electronic devices over time. If your electricity has a dirty spell, the APC UPS will switch your connected devices over to battery power to protect them. If you see this happening alot, you may want to consider adding more UPS systems to the other sensitive electronics in your home to protect them even if they don't necessarily need battery backup protection. A standard surge protector protects your connected electronics from electrical spikes not dirty electricity. I can use the PowerChute software to set the noise sensitivity level on the APC UPS so that it knows when I want it to intervene during an electrical noise event. I can also set high and low incoming voltage level thresholds so the APC UPS will know when I want it to switch over to battery during voltage spike events or low voltage brown outs. Other cool features of the PowerChute software are being able to monitor the energy usage and see the cost of running the devices I have connected to the APC UPS. You can even enter in your own local cost per kilowatt hour of electricity. Then the usage costs are expressed in dollars and cents, carbon dioxide generated, trees, light bulbs, and comparable miles driven in a car. I can run a self-test on the UPS anytime I want to see it's overall health and I can set a schedule to silence the alarm at night time if that's what I want. All very nice features. The basic testing I was able to do was pulling the APC UPS plug from the wall outlet to simulate a power blackout. My large PC tower, dual 28" monitors, and an external NAS ran for 15 minutes or so before the APC UPS put everything into hibernation mode when the preset 5 minutes of remaining battery charge point was reached. That's way more time than I would typically need to save my work and shutdown my apps. Something interesting I learned from the monitoring ability of my new APC UPS was that the battery charge minutes go down quickly during an power outage, but then takes hours and hours to fully recharge after the event. I'm sure my old UPS is the same way, but I have no ability to monitor it. I am disappointed by the lack of one feature not found on my new APC Back-UPS Pro BX1000M-LM60 Battery Backup. Of the 8 outlets on the back for connecting devices, not even one is adapter-friendly! I was quite surprised to realize this because even my 10 year old UPS from way back in 2009 has 4 adapter-friendly outlets in addition to its 4 standard width outlets. For those who may not know, an adapter-friendly outlet has more space on either side of the plug-in to accommodate the extra width needed for those ubiquitous blocks of plastic called AC to DC adapters. Because APC recommends replacing the UPS battery every 3-5 years, I checked the APC website and found that a replacement battery from APC for this model is $69.99 before tax and shipping. Which is about half the MSRP of this UPS, so it's not too terrible. However, a different option to consider is APC has a trade-up program where you can receive up to 25% off a new APC UPS by trading in your old one instead of just replacing its battery. This gets you a new UPS with a completely new warranty. You can also trade up or upgrade to 4 times the volt-amperes (VA) capacity of your old unit. I might have to consider that when the time comes. Finally, I would definitely recommend this APC Back-UPS Pro BX1000M-LM60 to a friend (in fact, I already have). But, I would make sure to mention the lack of adapter outlets in case that was important to my friend. Overall, this APC UPS and its companion PowerChute software both seem to be high quality products.

Great choice for emergency power and voltage reg
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.APC is a quality brand with a great warranty that I've never needed to use! This unit has 8 outlets of which 4 are Battery Backup and 4 are surge. There are also network in/out ports, along with cable in/out and a data port to connect to your computer to utilize their power management software. There's also an indicator to show if you have a building wire fault normally related to grounding. The batter is replaceable. I use this for my network, VOIP phones, and a CPAP machine! The best feature (IMHO) is the ability to turn off the power failure alert! We lose power a lot...and I don't need to know if we lose power in the middle of the night! So far our power has been out for over 6 hours straight and the unit had no problem powering my CPAP machine and kept our network and phones online! Obviously it wouldn't power a computer for that long, but based on the literature you can easily get 30 - 90 minutes out of it depending on how much power you're drawing. This unit also has automatic voltage regulation which really helps if you have power fluctuations.

Not so good for CPAPs
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased to provide a back up to CPAP machines. Should have worked, according to a formula. Only gave us 2 hours. So we'll use it for a computer back up.
