I have tried several gaming headset, including A40 with M80 and my last the Turtle Beach XO7 Pro. The XO7 started to give me problems and I didn't wanted anything wireless, but I wanted something better, so I read about this and decided to give them a shot. From the moment you setup this thing and you start hearing the very crisp detail Dolby Surround 7.1 sound, man...it blew me away, it's loud, I can't turn the volume all the way up, it's that loud. If you have something else that's not this and you think is good, sell it/return it and get this. I like playing FPS game and specially COD is another league with this. It's amazing how much I was still missing, I thought my XO7 game me nice detail, but again, this is another league. I will said it again and again, it will blow you mind. Also I was worried about the cables but they are long enough, my couch is 10-12 feet from the XBOX and I have no issues with it. This headsets are worth every single penny. I'm not a hard core gamer, but if you are like me, that like the best of the best, this is it, period. Thinking about getting the COD mod kit as well to isolate the noise.

I purchased this headset since it was on sale for the black Friday deal. First Astro headset i get and its worth it. A bit of a pain to setup but not too bad if you are a tech person. You must connect the Audio Mixer behind you Xbox One via the optical cord. After you plug in you Mixer to the outlet to get powered up. One wire then goes to your headset to the Mixer. So 3 wires in total. The sound quality is great, if you really enjoy gaming then this is a great headset. Original price is $249.99 but i got it lot cheaper for black friday. I do recommend paying for the insurance since with such a high price for a headset i only think its smart. I always put the insurance on the headsets since with the wires many things can go wrong even if you take care of your item very well, like i do. The only issue i have with this headset which might be fixed by changing the settings is that if you speak a little low the mic won't pick up your voice. So if you are trying to play late night and don't want to be speaking to loud this might not be best for that. Besides that great quality, durability, and amazing sound. 7.1 Surround sound is great on this headset, you can test them by going to youtube and looking audio 7.1 test some movie trailers offer it as well. You can even check a blu ray with 7.1 if you have one. Wire setup. 1. Optical wire between Mixer and Xbox One 2. Power outlet wire between your wall outlet and Mixer 3. Headset wire between headset and Mixer.

I waited a very long time to get these headphones and the Mixamp, mainly because of the price, but they are so very worth it! The surround sound is amazing when play FPS and the mixamp let's you mix the game sound and chat sound on the fly as well as change to 4 different sound profiles (all which are configurable with the desktop software available from the website. I'd like to address a few issues that people seem to have problems with , well with the Xbox version anyway. First off, the 'tinny and echoy sound' The default sound profile is pretty good, but tweaking it makes it perfect. Yes at first it does sound a bit TInny but I easily adjusted that out. IF there is too much echo for you, it's not really echo...it's actually the surround, try playing without the surround turned on and that will take all of it away. It is easily turned off with a single button on the mixamp. The second major issue is the delayed echo of your own mic and voice . I have tried a combination of mixamp, no mixamp, chat adapter, no chat adapter, astro 40 head phones and two other pair, Razors and Steel Series, they all produce the same delay and echo of your voice, even with side tone (mic monitoring) turned off. Sometimes it's there just for me, sometimes it's there just for people I'm chatting with, sometimes for both and sometimes for no one. Best I can tell it is a problem with Xbox Live, or party chat when used in conjunction with in game teams where team chat is available. When using skype to team chat, the echo is completely gone. These are fantastic headphones, and well worth the price. However, be warned that their customer service is pretty lousy. It's hard to get any information off their website about any issues. You will have to email them with questions or problems. Thy do respond to emails. It just feels a bit of a cop-out to have zero information on your website about the problems listed above, or any solutions for them, when it is obvious that SOOooo many people have this issue. Other wise, if you go into this eyes wide open, you won't be disappointed!

Ive gone through my fair share of headsets, from logitech (yes I know they bought out Astro) to Turtle Beach's... and even Steel Series. But I just could never find that right one for my taste. Until I bought the Astro A40s. I was hesitant to purchase it because of the price. Its pretty heft and the previously mentioned headsets are cheaper compared to this one and they do the job just fine, but I just had to test these out. Plus, I had about $110 in rewards so I figured, "Why not?!" BEST. DECISION. EVER!!! The mixamp makes AAALLL the difference too! The surround sound is so crisp and the mic is really clear!! The comfort of these are like no other - very light, glasses friendly (thanks Gunnars!) and after a while, I forget that I have them on. If you have the money and have the patience to deal with lots of cabling - which is annoying to me - then get these... you wont regret it. And if you do, just return them. Easy Peasy.

I tried the Arctis Pro with dac and without question this headset beats that hands down. I often game and for the first time ever I could hear footsteps of enemies from around the corner. It was insane! they are comfortable - which the Arctis Pro were not. The headset turns on at the push of a button on the mixamp. Turning it off and returning to the original sound source (t.v. - speaker..etc) is as easy as turning off the mixamp - so simple. The cord is long enough for me to stand up and take a few steps. The sound is incredible. You will not regret. Also, you can change out the side panels of the headset (update colors - get a leather set and so on) and you can move the mic from one side of your face to the other - easily! It cuts out background noise very well. Lastly, the software is simply. You'll have to change the voice setting because it's too quick to cut out sound from the background. It will inevitably cut out your voice. But changing the sound setting to 'night mode' removes that strong 'noise gate' they have up at start. The software comes with 4 presets – one is tournament – that’s the best for gaming. It also allows you to create your own presets and even mess with some advanced equalizer/frequency settings. It’s a great pair. You won’t regret.

    Astro keeps raising the bar...

First off, I have owned many different headsets in the past including other generations of A40s as well as A30 and A50 models. These new TR model A40s are by far my favorites I have used. I bought a mod kit for mine as I wanted the leatherette ear pads and top band. The sound quality is incredible either way but I prefer the more isolated sound the modem kit provides. Having the Astro command center available so you can customize your equipment settings is just icing on the cake. I honestly can't think of anything Astro can improve for its next generation of A40.

Best gaming headset I've ever tried! The Mixamp Pro is a must for any serious gamer. The surround sound effect definitely sounds like the sounds are surrounding you. The headphone quality is crisp and natural, so combined with the Mixamp Pro, you get such an open, realistic sound. Sometimes they fake me out, making me think there was noise in my house when I'm alone. Or when I fire up the Xbox at night, I keep double-checking that the soundbar is muted, because the sound in these headphones really does feel like it's coming from your environment, and not headphones. They're pretty comfortable, and I like the soft fabric on the ear pads, as opposed to the smooth, non-breathable fake leather material many companies use. The padding is a little stiff, though, but it isn't a problem because the headphones aren't tight or putting pressure on my ears. I can go hours without taking these things off! The only downside is the mic quality. That microphone is a little finicky, and sometimes cuts out. If you have a fan blowing towards you, the mic will pick up the wind noise. But the issues with the mic are not bad enough to ruin the experience. When it works (which is most of the time), it works great! Durability is also insane. Light, but VERY sturdy. Metal parts in the construction are awesome, and the plastic is flexible enough to not weaken with lots of use. I've had TBs snap on me more than once, but these Astros are showing no signs of wear! Just make sure you plug in both USB and optical cable for the best experience. I also wish the Mixamp Pro had an auxiliary optical input so I can hook up my smart TV directly to them without having to swap cables every time I want to use Netflix/Disney+/Hulu/etc. without running my Xbox. Still, only a minor downside; I got these for gaming, so movie watching was just a secondary.

If you can deal with the wires, this headset is the BEST headset I've ever used! Headphones - They're big, but sit light over your ears. I have gauged ear piercings, and the cups still cover my entire ear. Comfortable for hours of play at a time. Sound - The audio on these are so crisp and dynamic, for the first couple of months owning them, I kept taking them off mid-game because it sounded like my stereo was still on. The really open sound they provide feels like you're really in the game; no claustrophobic, head-hugging, muffled feeling from this set. Mixamp Pro - This is the main reason to spend the money on this product. The optical input provides a crisp, accurate surround sound experience that lets you hear every detail in perfect orientation. There are various profiles you can use, or plug the Mixamp Pro into your PC to load custom EQ settings. I stick with a stock bass-boosted gaming profile, which has thick enough bass to feel explosions, but it won't muddy up your crucial highs, like enemy footsteps or reloading. Boom Mic - seems a little sensitive to wind noise, so if you breathe heavy or have a fan or a/c blowing towards you, you might want to get a wind screen. The wind screen from the Xbox-included Microsoft mono earpiece actually just barely fits, so I use that. Other than that, never had complaints in party or game chat about my voivce quality.

This headset is on next level. Based on all the headsets I have tried, this one beat them on all level. The sound is amazing thanks to the optical cord and the headset works. I like that you don’t need to connect a 3.5 mm cable into the controller. All connected to Mixamp and xbox. If you can afford it, this is a great investment for perfect sound and comfort. Will try out the mod kits and leather pads at a later date.

I had used astros before but getting them new was even better, they're very comfortable and sound great, can use for hours without getting a headache like with other headsets, gets a little warm on your head after awhile but that's expected, I like that there's no cord from the headset to the controller, I play cod and destiny and in multiplayer you can hear everything, a little pricey but completely worth it, only downside is they don't come with a case anymore

The Astro A40trs are phenomenal. They’re real comfortable but if you’ve never used over the ear headphones you will have to get use to them. The first day or so of using them your ears will get soar after a few hours if you’re not use to this type of headset. The sound quality is just what you’d expect from Astro. Set up is easy, and the mix amp adds even more customization. Allowing you to adjust the over all volume and game to chat ratio at a hands reach. Also with the a40s you’re able to buy a mod kit for 50-60$ allowing even more performance! In my opinion these are the best wired gaming headset on the market for a reasonable sale price of 200$ Now there is one shocking downside to this headset. After a weeks use I noticed that on the outside of the ear cuff (the part that’s shaped like a u and connects the headset to the ear cuff) the paint had already started to chip. Which is a minor issue but if u have ocd like me it will bug you. So I reccomend just setting them down on a micro fiber towel. I am very gentle with them so I have no idea how they already started to chip. I can return them but I have to return everything and I have the mix amp and wires all where I want them tied and taped down. So it’s just not worth it for me. Hope this review helps you with your purchase.

You get what you pay for and these Astros are 100% worth it if you're a serious gamer. The build and sound quality of these are amazing with comfort that let's you game all day and the mix amp is amazing you can fine tone any sound. It comes with preset settings but you can connect it to your PC and customize sound and build your own preset that suits you for different games. Highly recommend

At first, I was slightly hesitant to spend so much for a headset, but after finally pulling the trigger, it was worth every penny. I'll break it down below Pros: Works on PC too, and you can use the Astro software to configure the mix amp to your own preferences Super comfortable- Most of the time I forget I'm even wearing a headset. I've used this headset for game sessions of 4+ hours without any discomfort whatsoever Amazing sound- probably a given, but the audio is definitely crystal clear and the surround sound really helps with immersion. In fact, there have been times in games where sirens were going off in the distance and I've had to take my headset off to make sure something isn't happening outside my house. Cons: Wired- This is really more of a personal preference, after using multiple wireless headsets, they seem to ALWAYS die in the middle of an intense match. I went for a wired headset on purpose so I wouldn't have to deal with this. That's basically it, I haven't found any real flaws with this headset.

Tried the Turtle Beach XO ONE's and then the Stealth 420x's before these. What can I say other than these are the most comfortable and best sounding headsets I have ever used. The only negative is all the cords but I can totally live with that since these headsets fit perfectly and sound great. I'm 12-13 feet away from my Xbox one and I still have just a tad more cord length than needed.

I was sceptical of spending $250 for headsets because i thought it was a gimmick plus just having purchased the recently release TurtleBeach Stealth 600 Wireless headsets 3 weeks ago. The TB600 sucked, staticy sound, no real sense of virtual SS. The Astro A40 have great custom EQ options that you can sync/share, sounds are great and loud and the virtual surround sound feature is awesome which was something I couldn't detect with my TB 600 headsets. I can actually sense sounds from behind in FPS games (or any 3D game of that matter) and can pinpoint locations of sound. These are kind of comfortable but hurts with glasses for long sessions. I guess it depends on your head shape and glasses. The inline cable that runs from amp to headset is kind of short. I sit like 4 feet from my TV so its not a big deal. I do recommend these headsets if you are willing to spend at least $150. The extra $100 is not too shabby and worth it. I couldnt believe how real the virtual ss works. I was hunting for a good headset that can pull that feature off well for a looong time and finally came across a pair that delivers. Go buy these awesome headsets while you can becauase I will stick with these for atleast another year.

The sound that these produce is phenomenal. They fit nice and light weight. The mixer however, is an inconvenience. It's not attached to the headset or the controller. It is wired to the mixer as well so that gets in the way. The main issue is the mic. Playing with other gamers is a challenge due to the mic continually cutting out. Making it very challenging to relay info or even have a conversation.

Mix amp is a must. Quality headphones and comfortable. They are not wireless so unless you are playing on a monitor you will have issues using these headset on your TV in a living room. There are better headset out there that will provide better game play sound but these works well. I don't use the simulated surround sound and prefer playing without them. Update firmware on the mix amp and turn your mic monitoring all the way up.
