I'm not a heavy gamer, but I play one specific game that requires higher specifications. This computer is in the perfect price range for someone who is on a budget. There are only a couple of reasons I give this computer 4 stars instead of 5 stars. 1. It runs very hot. No matter what I do, the fan is constantly blowing hard, and it is very hot. It blows the hardest when I'm playing a game. 2. The battery life is pretty bad. It lasts maybe an hour unplugged. Even if I'm not using it for a game, the battery drains so quickly. There are times where I unplug it and close it and when I come back to it, the battery is less than half. Even though I have it set to sleep when it's not plugged in, it stays on and drains the battery. These are not issues that would cause me to be upset in any way, just slightly inconvenient at times. All in all, it is a pretty good computer. It runs my games smoothly and I have no major concerns.

Purchased this laptop earlier this week after researching many Asus ROG models. I ended up choosing this one because you can max out the ram at 32gb and it has a 2.5" sata slot as well as an M.2. You can max out this computer and get Win10 Pro for less than the machine already built at other retailers. Plus getting the GSP on this machine is a huge factor, have to protect your investment. If you're editing video or running VMs, the six core processor in this is better than the Ryzen 7 model with the upgraded graphics card. If graphics are important go with one of the other models as they have higher refresh rates than this one does. I purchased this machine for running a virtual testing environment and so far I am very happy with it. Updating the machine and getting the OS upgraded took less than 30 minutes. I'm very impressed with this machine and will update this review in a month or so.

I've had 3 mid-range gaming laptops from ASUS. This one is definitely more powerful than the previous ones they've brought out for this price range. Little bit of information for those wondering.. 8GB of RAM is plenty if you are gaming, searching things on the web, and listening to YouTube/Spotify and/or have Discord open. If you are going to game AND stream you'll most likely need another 8GB of RAM which is easy to upgrade. Keep in mind there is no webcam on this laptop. One small con is the audio is pretty base heavy, but for what's inside this laptop, and the price.. I'm not going to give any negatives just because of that. I bought this for gaming purposes and if I want to listen to music that's what headphones are made for :)

The only reason i kept it was i got it for the $749 price, and was excited to get a flashy new laptop after many years of waiting. I'm not gonna lie, its fast, and does what i need for the most part. I feel future-proof with it being able to be expanded to 32gb ram vs. others in same range with 16gb limit. But there are problems. 1. The keyboard lighting randomly goes crazy, and i have to turn the computer off and on to get it to stop flashing..software updates were no help. 2. Battery life used to be good, about three hours with non-performance use. 5 months later i'm averaging 1.5 hours with same use. Other computers running same cpu setup and specs are 4 to 6 hours battery life. Why does this battery life suck so bad under little strain? 3. I take care of my electronics really well. So there's no damage done to it. I recently discovered a pixel area that is brighter than the rest and it really bugs me now that i noticed. 4. Lack of some ports like usb-c, webcam, and a built-in sd card reader is starting to suck now that i need them more. 3 usb ports on only one side is annoying. would like to see one of them in the back. 5. As someone else mentioned, sleep mode not working. I put into sleep mode, closed lid and put in my case today. ..drove a half hour and pulled it out and my bag and computer were really hot with fan's blaring. this has been a constant problem where it should be sleeping but then i randomly hear fans start running. I hope it didn't cause any damage because when i opened and checked core temp it showed 54 degrees celcius! Major flaw! 6. Screen is not very bright. I can't even use outdoors in the shade. 7. I keep it in a clean environment without any dust. It sits on a desk most of the time. I've noticed the fans have been running more often than when i bought and it is running a bit hotter than when new. It gets annoying quick. I have minimal background processes running so it shouldn't be doing this. 8. mousepad sucks! useless! Forget it if you have dry fingers. never thought i would have to lick my finger to use a mousepad. especially during the covid era! I'm glad i didn't pay full price for this, and wish i could exchange it now for something else. I will probably have to do a warranty claim for some problems, which i wouldn't expect to have to do after 5 months of light/average use. It does the job, and has the power, but you'll miss basic features laptops 10 years ago already had, and there shouldn't be so many design flaws and problems 5 months in!

      Dear Jazz,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having multiple problems with this unit. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control, testing and inspections. What you've experienced was not intentional or representative of our brand. Regarding the keyboard lighting and touchpad issues, I would recommend uninstalling Armoury Crate followed by downloading and installing the BIOS, Armoury Crate, ASUS System Control Interface V2, touchpad and chipset drivers from the link below. For the fan, screen and battery concern, I recommend contacting Best Buy for a repair under warranty. I will also forward your feedback to the Product team for review. If you have any general or technical questions, please email me at cl-lane@asus.com and include case #N200939042 for reference.

      Thank you for choosing ASUS!

      Best regards,
      Lane

This is a great laptop for the price. It was purchased for my son to take to college and still be able to game. A few days after purchase the keyboard stopped working. After trying several things we found on the internet my son called tech support. Their recommendation was to return it to the store. I noticed a reset in the test menu and tried that. Computer has been great ever since. If you check on the internet you will see this is a fairly common issue with ROG. Overall however, I would still recommend this computer.

I've had it for a few weeks now and it's really the best bang for your buck. It's base ram (ddr4 1xR 8gb 2666mhz) is going to need an upgrade, but just pick up a 16gb 2xR 2666mhz kit and you'll be fine. Also there are two sodimm slots on the motherboard. There are two hard drive slots (1 nvme and 1 data) so this beast is designed for upgrades and longevity. Screen is 60hz but is clear. Some have said the screen looks muddy, but turning up the brightness got rid of that. Clock speed is fine also (cpu), have yet to see any bottle neck between cpu and GPU. Speakers are lacking, but not bad. You can tell this was meant for either headphone gaming or plugging into a sounds system. Lastly, IO seems limited but it's just the right amount. No USB C, but 3 USB A 3.1. so not bad.

Gamer lite! It has the speed you need with a 500gb SSD, and also a slot for a second (backup) hard drive (Just pop opn and install--easy). Very pleased with the performance and reliability (for under 1k!)

As a casual, occasionally daily gamer, I have no qualms about this machine's performance. Sure, on Turbo the fans can get noisy, but that's no trouble when you wear headphones or - considering the speakers are bottom firing but LOUD - when the volume is simply hiked up; when not gaming, leave Silent mode on and neither performance nor your ears will suffer. Display is bright enough for the price of machine, though text can look a tad fuzzy, however rarely. Keys are soft and hushed, with slightly more travel than say a MacBook, but less than a standard wired keyboard. Display opens with one finger! A testament to build quality. Highly recommend this machine to any casual or budget gamer!

This is amazing laptop for gaming! I've downloaded TESV Skyrim, Fallout 4, The new Doom Eternal, and it handles these games flawlessly for me and the graphics are amazing. It was perfect for me, it's under $1k, the light up keyboard adds to the experience. The only bad thing I've seen so far is the speakers act up when I turn on my laptop every once in a Blue moon, but it's fixed with a restart and I'm back at it, or you could solve the issue with your own external speakers. Highly recommend this for someone who has right budget and still wants to play games with the big boys!

This computer is working great. I love the ASUS brand. I added 16GB of Ram and a second SSD SATA drive (Western Digital). There is an unused bay for a 2.5" SATA drive, along with the connector cable and screws. Piece of cake. (I always buy Crucial memory and Western Digital drives for reliability.) Note that this computer does not have a webcam and the screen is 60Hz only.

Overall this is a great gaming laptop for those looking to stay under $1000. The only complaint that I have is that it does seem to get a little warm after extended use and I would’ve preferred a larger screen. The specifications are almost identical to the MSI laptop currently being sold So it is definitely capable of performing at a high-level. Runs World of Warcraft with graphics on ultra settings with no issues using 10 MB per second Wi-Fi. Due to the technical nature of the graphics card settings I would not suggest this computer for someone who does not understand gaming hardware.

When I saw this laptop go on sale I knew that I needed to have it, 849 for a brand new 9th gen I7 and a solid state drive, while also being asus so you know they wouldnt cheap out on it. And as well with the 1650 you can play almost any game you want in 1080p at 60fps.

Bought this laptop for my Rift S headset. It plays every VR game ive tried so far on max settings, and does so phenomenally. It does NOT have a full size display port, but the mini diplay port works great, and you can buy an adapter for the usb-c as well. Two cons on this laptop: 1st- the battery sucks butt.. when unplugged, don't expect to do much of ANYTHING with this laptop, you'll be out of juice in a half hour to an hour. 2ndly- the fans are quite loud when gaming, but with earbuds or a headset on, its no biggee

For the price, this laptop is a powerhouse. It's fast, smooth, and attractive. I bought this laptop for school purposes. I know what you're thinking, a gaming laptop for school? But let me tell you, if it can run video games with high graphic settings smoothly (which it absolutely does) it can run just about ANYTHING seamlessly.

Previously, I had a CyberPower PC, which caused nothing but problem after problem and essentially broke within a year of me purchasing. So my mom got this one for me for Christmas and it is quite the upgrade and I honestly just prefer this much better than the CyberPowerPC gaming laptop I owned, that one was a waste of money. I plan on using this solely for my major in Computer Art and Animation as well as streaming. I'm not sure if I'd want to play games on it, besides low end ones, because I don't want the battery to mess up and get overheated.

A decent gaming laptop for the price. The speed and performance is outstanding. My only quibble is that you give up a few things for that performance. The keypad is decent but there is no dedicated number pad. There is no built in webcam. Luckily my older laptops have those features. I use this primarily for games and use my older full featured laptops for everything else. Price point was fantastic.

This machine does it all! Great general laptop Overall even if you are t a gamer, but the gaming with this is the best! Love all the extra bells and whistles with this one! Great job Asus! Really good laptop. Bought on sale for $800 makes it a steal. 9th gen I7 processor with a 1650 graphics card makes it a really good computer for almost any game or editing. 8GB of RAM is pretty good but this model can be upgraded nice and easily. RGB keyboard is awesome and looks great, great overall feel, keys aren't noisy. Overall one of the best budget laptops out there. Huge shoutout to ASUS for this computer.
