This system was recommended by a friend I trust. I'm not an expert in this technology, but the setup was as easy as my friend stated. There were no issues. One router is in my basement, located about in the middle of my 1302 sq ft home. I get 250-450Mbps speeds inside the house. The 2nd router is out on my deck to cover the backyard and studio area. Backyard is about 5000 sq ft and i get speeds of 280Mbps at the alley 75 feet away from router. Obviously the closer to the router the faster the speeds. I get over 500Mbps when sitting on the deck 20 feet away from router. After a couple months of using the system, no issues, and it is very reliable.

Easy setup and simple app make this an easy to use mesh router. The distance with the two nodes seems good in my one story home with concrete walls, and being able to turn off the LED per unit is a nice option for bedrooms. I like knowing I have the ability to buy any model in the zen series to add an extra node if needed in the future. I have art fiber and the only extra step I had to dk was to change the att modem to “pass through mode.” If you’re stuck with an ISP’s modem/router combo you’ll most likely have to do the same to get the full benefit of the mesh system.

I purchased this router yesterday in hopes of solving Wi-Fi issues at my house. As soon as I unboxed and got the router, everything was great. Fast range was solid, I was a happy camper. However, about an hour in the connection drops on every device in my house. We have lost connectivity 100%. So I reboot the router, and everything is back to normal at this point I figured it’s just you know a routine glitch that sometimes happens with Wi-Fi routers, no big deal. However, about an hour later same thing. All connectivity is loss, I have to reboot the router again to regain connectivity. So at this point, I’m a little skeptical, but I’m still considering that it could be just a new router, settling in, adjusting to the environment. Now the next morning, I’m trying to work and do you know no connectivity. At this point I called tech-support. They have me change the Wi-Fi channel which temporarily works but literally five minutes after I get off the phone with Tech Support the connection drops again. This time I call back again and speak to a “senior“ Tech Support agent, and they tell me that they want to look at the logs to troubleshoot the problem. That sounds great, let’s get the root cause of why this is happening. However, they tell me that I need to email them over and they should get back to me within approximately 48 hours. Someone from home obviously doesn’t work for me, already lost too many hours of my workday. Dealing with Wi-Fi issues and cannot sacrifice another two days. Short this router is high-performing but is incredibly unreliable.

      Dear Greg,

We certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused.

If you are experiencing connection problem, please verify the PC or device connecting to the router is working properly and within range to the router, the router is within 30 feet to the ISP's modem, if not wired by a network cable, and ISP's internet service or connection is working properly or stable. Also, try connecting this manually to either 2.4GHz or 5GHz. Try resetting the mesh routers and reconfigure or setup the devices. If you need more information or further assistance with the warranty for the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be more than happy to help. Or, you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent from the link: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/1135/.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

      Regards,

Dare I say that this mesh system lives up to the hype? Yes, it does! I've been playing around with home networking for 20 years. In the last 5 years or so, I've tried a number of different mesh systems. Some were dual band and a few tri band. I've always run into a problems, however. Sometimes the setup was so simple, but the system just didn't deliver whether it was throughput or range. Some systems were just downright crap to set up and failed to stay connected or had devices just randomly drop off. I YouTube'd a lot of mesh wifi systems and the Asus XT9 would come up often and almost every review as positive. I couldn't tell what was accurate or truthful and so I decided to buy it myself and test it out. I have to say that the real world use is the best mesh wifi router I've ever set up. The only issue I had was upon the initial setup where the main router found new firmware and updated but the second node did not update to the newest firmware and the node disconnected. I had to reset the node and then it finally connected. The range is very good and I can get a decent signal almost 100 feet away from the main router outside my house. When inside my 2800 square foot house, I'm getting very close to my 300/300 speeds on wifi. The network hasn't disconnected and I have close to 50 devices connected. The app is very good and the web interface is great. So many ways to view all of the options this system has.

I recently upgraded my home network, and the ASUS ZenWiFi XT9 AX7800 has completely transformed my internet experience. This router is nothing short of exceptional, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. First and foremost, the Wi-Fi coverage is outstanding. My previous router struggled to cover my entire house, resulting in dead zones and frustratingly slow connections. However, the ZenWiFi XT9's tri-band mesh system blankets my entire home with strong, reliable Wi-Fi signals. No more dropped connections or buffering while streaming videos or playing online games. The Wi-Fi 6 technology is a game-changer. Not only do I get faster speeds and improved performance, but it also handles multiple devices simultaneously without breaking a sweat. This is a must-have for a household with a multitude of smartphones, tablets, laptops, smart home devices, and gaming consoles. The setup process was surprisingly easy. ASUS provides a user-friendly mobile app that guided me through the installation step by step. Within minutes, I had the ZenWiFi XT9 up and running, and I was impressed by how intuitive and straightforward the whole process was. Security is a top priority for me, and this router doesn't disappoint. With its robust security features, including AiProtection Pro, I feel confident that my network is well-protected from online threats and hackers. It's great to have peace of mind while browsing the web or conducting online transactions. One feature I particularly appreciate is the built-in parental controls. As a parent, it's crucial to manage my children's internet usage, and the ZenWiFi XT9 makes it easy to set up schedules, filter content, and monitor their online activities. In terms of design, this router is sleek and modern, making it a seamless addition to my home decor. It's not an eyesore like some other routers I've seen. In summary, the ASUS ZenWiFi XT9 AX7800 is a top-notch router that delivers on all fronts – exceptional coverage, blazing-fast Wi-Fi speeds, easy setup, robust security, and comprehensive parental controls. It's worth every penny and has significantly improved my internet experience. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade their home network. Five stars without a doubt!

Delivers as promoted. Replacing 10 yr old Verizon FIOS router in 3k sf 2-story wood frame, 2x base strength within 50 ft, 4x within 100 ft - mesh 2nd unit triples base distance. No discernible lag through mesh. App tool works well snd intuitively (with familiarity). No caveats to recommending - excellent performance for value.

I have had this mesh running for a couple of months. I have a smaller house but it still ran into problems with interference no matter where I put our old router. Now I have one of these in the basement on one side of the house and the other in my son's room on the other side of the house using gig eithernet backhaul. Performance has been excellent. The software is good. There is both an ios app (and I presume android) and a nice web interface. I primarily use the web interface. I actually enjoyed seeing what connected to what as people walked through the house. Nerdy pleasures. I have it configured as "tri band smart connect" as my fam is not in the least interested in figuring out what they should connect to. It has worked reasonably well. I ran into one software issue. If force ethernet backhaul it just doesn't work right. Either the displays or wrong or the connections are wrong but I could not get it to work as expected. When I hooked up ethernet then let it make its own choice.. it selected the ethernet backhaul (as it should) and everything worked AOK. So I got what I wanted but I should be able to force it without the software losing its mind. I may give it a try after a few more software updates. Positives - Decent software (Backhaul config issue aside) - Performant - 4x Gig ports on each box (so one box with two extra and one with three after WAN and Backhaul). I do have a couple of gig switches which non-mobile devices connect to. - reasonable aesthetic - does not require an account as do many other mesh options. You CAN if you want to but it is not required to use the device. Cons - aforementioned backhaul config issue - No wall mounting option (Holes on the back for screw heads would be great) - No 6E. - Lack of link and activity lights on ethernet ports makes troubleshooting a pain.

I have a small house but my shop tv is 95 ft from the router in my house garage. My home is brick, I have a metal door and a storm door between the router and the tv. I have had no problems what so ever. I’m streaming the Red’s game on 3 tvs and no problem. No problems keeping up while playing video games. Great product. So far worth every penny.

This may be my first ever 5-star. These guys built in a few minutes a replacement mesh network which erased my wifi problems. Access delay to cameras shrank from 15+ seconds to <2. It is quick enough that adding ethernet backhaul to my lightly loaded network produced little discernible difference. The Detroit Free Press loads fast enough that I can’t even start to count off the second it takes now. (The Ookla Speed Test pic is after and before as measured over wifi on an iPad.)

I purchased the Deco XE75 Pro first but my Ecobee 3lite thermostat would constantly disconnect and reconnect to the network. Without getting to detail on that I decided to try the XT9. Doesn’t require an apple to setup the router and you have more control over individual settings. I want to separate the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks which the XT9 allows me to do so I’m not using the Smart Connect feature. Roaming between nodes works pretty good for me with default settings. The only issue I have found is the WAN connections upload speed is about 1/3 what it should be when measured from the ASUS internet speed test built into the router, from a wired device plugged directly into the main router and from a computer plugged directly into the ONT (Cspire1Gb fiber). I should average approx 900 down and 940 up. I used a 8port netgear unmanaged switch, plugged the ONTand the XT9 WAN port into it, now both up and down load speeds are what they should be. I did do all the troubleshooting steps you constantly see online, swapped out patch cables, rebooted both router and ONT, reset the router and set back up from scratch, upgraded the firmware, etc. under normal circumstances I would have returned this router for this issue but unfortunately I passed my return by date. That being said I don’t mind having the switch between the router and the ONT and everything else works good enough for me. Plus I really like having control over hardware settings that are harder and harder to find in a Mesh system. Plus no account required with Asus to setup and use. I would recommend but only after pointing out the WAN port upload speed problem the router has. Final verdict, I like the product, works good in my environment, but there does seem to be a hardware incompatibility issue with the WAN port. Is that’s the router or ONT’s fault????? BTW, setting up without using an app on your phone and adding USB hardrive to use for Time Machine backups was easy.

I am 100% satisfied with this purchase. I came from Linksys velop mesh system. I have always liked to Linksys but there would always be performance issues. I understand that it depends on how many devices are connected and using the Internet at the same time but it was always inconsistent. Sometimes I would get 30 MB per second and sometimes I would get 100 MB per second. Now I do pay for the 1200 MB per second package. I switched to this router mesh Wi-Fi system and performance is much better. I tend to get 1200 MB per second wired if not more and on Wi-Fi I tend to get around 700 to 800 mbps. Absolutely happy with my purchase and would recommend

Above average mesh router with quick and easy set up. For larger spaces you definitely need more than advertised. Signal strength and reliability drop off significantly through walls and cupboards. Overlay though strong reliable connection for most users. If you are a power user I would look elsewhere.
