A Triumphant And Deserving Self-Titled Album

This album delivers a remarkably refreshing return to what we've known this band to be capable of. Where DToE showed that Mangini was the only logic choice as a replacement drummer, DT shows that Mangini was the drummer the band needed to realize their potential. This album is rife with homages to some of the most influential bands in the genre but uses original arrangements that are naturally powerful. After 25+ years in the business, the band is finally getting the commercial recognition it deserves... And this is not only the most deserving album to champion their place industry, it's also the most deserving album to champion its own namesake.

When I first listened to this album, I really the song "Behind the Veil". Later on "The Bigger Picture" became another favorite. Petrucci plays a very emotion inducing solo. There's a quiet part with Rudess playing some whole note chords which are very good. I can get very into the music lol. After about 10 entire album listens, I enjoyed every song. Surrender to Reason is another highlight with Petrucci playing a nice guitar lead line with Labrie singing about angels. You can have a listen to the entire album on their Dream Theater Youtube page. Please get this album.. it is really good!

Dream Theater does it again with their newest release of their self titled album Dream Theater. The album starts off with an instrumental to start all shows with. Its energy and power is what we have become to accept from this band and they do not disappoint in this latest release. All the songs on this album have their own place and take you on a very energetic ride. If you have loved their work prior to this then you will love this piece. If you haven't heard them prior then I suggest you give this album listen. You wont be disappointed.

This boxed set is fantastic! I'm a big Dream Theater fan. Great variety of their old and new releases. They still have what it takes! Well seasoned musicians and better than ever. Every DT fan must have. I would have loved to get this as a gift, but couldn't wait for any occasion to receive it! Loved getting it the day it was released. Would make a great gift for the progressive music lover in your life just in time for the holidays. Get your copy today!

Longtime Dream Theater fan. The addition of Mike Mangini has re-energized the group, which had started to get a little stale before Mike Portnoy's departure. The last album, A Dramatic Turn of Events, was a step in the right direction, leading to this new masterpiece which has been on constant rotation in my CD player since it's release. Every listen brings more enjoyment. The 5.1 mix of the Deluxe version is incredible.

I am relatively new to Dream Theater and as a working musician I appreciate that the band's technical proficiency is still accessible to non musicians. The change of personnel beginning with A Dramatic Turn of Events has proven to be a positive direction. Every band will go through evolutions and as this group of fine musicians continues to grow, I will continue to look forward to upcoming projects!

Being the first Mangini album to feature Mike as a creative member I was very excited to hear what they came up with. I was worried about the fact that Mangini is more in the realm of drummers like Mark Zonder who are very technical but not as jam oriented as Mike P. they're previous drummer. But my worries were for not when I heard the songs, the groove is amazing. Aside from that the entire CD is well crafted, well written, and has a breath of life to it that the folks in DT have long been looking for. I was worried around the DCSL album and their switch to what seemed to be 80's thrash that my coveted band would be reaching it's end soon. This album announces that they don't have any plans of hanging up their hat any time soon. Cheers!
