I bought this printer and the only thing it allowed me to print was the initial test page. After that it kept giving me paper jam error messages even when there was no paper. Contacted Epson since it’s still under warranty and they are replacing with a refurbished printer, after I send this one back. So I paid almost $600 for a refurbished printer. I feel like the biggest SUCKER!!!

Way overpriced and constantly messes up, do yourself the favor and save yourself a headache and do not buy.save your money and get a way better printer for less money

It saddens me to write this review. Purchased this printer less than 30 days ago and finally set it up on Friday. Didn't realize Best Buy return policy is 15 days and you have to pay $199 for Total Tech to be able to return within 30 or 60. This printer can't even get past alignment issues, always under the two same colors like there is something wrong with the print heads. Nothing changes despite following all Epson's suggestions. Best Buy basically washes their hands of it and Epson will be my next contact. What a shame for an expensive printer.

The tray doesn’t want to manually open after pressing the output tray button. It struggles and then closes back. It makes a grinding and squeaky noise…

Grainy Images, poor machinery

I was do looking forward to this printer. Unfortunately the quality of the images is horrible, grainy and dull. Premium Paper constantly gets stuck. Yes the ink lasts but that is the only positive.

I was suppose to receive a new printer but instead received a used one that already had ink and paper in it. I was out of town and did not get a chance to check it before their 15 day return window. Now I'm getting the run around. 1 person told me to use the 4yr extended warranty I purchased another told me to use the manufacturer's warranty.

I talked quite a while at Best Buy about which printer to buy. I’m so glad I picked this model. I have small office and they do small projects with different size paper and prints so this works out great for me. Hook up to the computer went fantastically easy for me And I have an older computer. The photo paper fits in the slot. Nice pictures print out very nice computer software worked well with this printer. That’s where I usually have a problem ,set up was easy with the ink. I have nothing bad to say about this printer and I’m pretty fussy. It was $150 off big reason why I bought it. They didn’t have this in stock. They mailed it to my house in three days. What a deal at no cost to me.

It's expensive, but worth it in long run

Reviewing Prints: Please note when looking at pictures of monkey and elephant the larger print job is the Epson ET-8550. The smaller is my previous HP printer. Not the lack of details and how off colors are on the HP vs the Epson ET-8550
A very good photo lab quality printer. Go and get yourself some premium 13x19 matte paper and you'll have a printer that is really good at filling out a wall with your photos for a fraction of lab prints.
I was worried about its ability to reproduce colors with only having one gray but it works really well. I put the print out against my color calibrated monitor and what was on screen was pretty close.
What I noticed immediately over my old HP photo printer was that the grays looked gray and not blueish and my daughters red dress wasn't faded looking once printed but the same red pop in the photo.
All in all I would say buy this if you are into printing photos. I'm getting prints that would have cost me $20-32 bucks out for $1.20-1.30ish at 13x19 and most of that was the expensive paper I bought that was $1.10ish a sheet.
If you buy this printer make sure you download the drive from Epson. You don't need the extra tools unless you really want them but you want the full driver. The windows installed version is a light version and will be missing a ton of advanced features like the ability to print up to 13x19 and setting high quality print.
Good for printing? Yes. Scanning & App is a no-go.

Good printer. The ink lasts super long and the printing quality is great. The app is not very user friendly. Downfall is that you have to scan one by one and flip it if its back and front. We do not use it often and sometimes it freezes and we have to unplug and restart. Aside from that it is a good printer.

I've only had it a few weeks but WOW!!! SIMPLY WOW! It's the most impressive printer I've ever used. I wanted a photo printer that was also ecotank. I actually wanted the 8500 not the 8550 because I don't need the extra size but nobody seems to stock it unless I ordered online. The 8550 went on sale and made it cheaper than the 8500 regular price so I grabbed it. I love that it has so many paper trays. I keep standard 8.5x11 paper in one, 4x6 photo paper in another, and if I need something different I can put it on the top back tray. The quality is super impressive. I just got a mirrorless digital camera and wanted something to print great photos and WOW this doesn't disappoint. I can print from my phone with the Epson app, directly from my Canon camera, and of course from the computer if I need to make adjustments. Most of what I've printed so far is 4x6 photos. It's fast and they're beautiful. And if you're printing documents it's super fast for that also. I haven't used the scanner part yet other than a test to make sure it worked so I can't really comment on that.

I have been printing weekly with this machine for several months now. I can attest the following: the Pigment Black ink is gorgeous in both B&W and color images printed using the VFA setting (and the printer is very easy to figure out - knock on wood easiest printer to work with I've ever owned!) The Grey ink might be this printer's unsung hero however. Everyone on Youtube talks about the Pigment Black, but having used this printer a lot now (13"x19" is a life-changer), I see the Grey is the most-depleted ink. The Pigment Black stands out immediately on the page- endlessly deep completely flat black on matte paper - but the Grey you won't likely notice, hence unsung hero. If you are a Photographer, or an Artist in particular, I recommend skipping the 8.5x11" 4-color models. This printer is not expensive for what it does. Your higher resolution (4k+) photos and scans will look amazing on 13"x19". I have printed around 50 13"x19" sheets and I don't know how many 8x11, a few booklets, so far. Inks are at 80%, 60% Grey. The scanner can get resolutions your PC can't handle. One of the best things about this printer is you will be able to give prints to people with no real thought of the ink cost. Paper is where it's at. Red Mill has ICC Profiles for this Printer, if you go that route. Youtube has many excellent and Professional commentators on this printer. Staples is carrying matte 13"x19" these days, for which one of the Youtubers Jose Rodriguez kindly made an ICC Profile and released it for free (via FB). I mostly print from PC, but also am getting perfectly accurate color results (to my non-professional eye) printing directly from an iPhone as well. I rate the 8550 Excellent for its price:performance ratio. It's a unicorn, nothing else does what it does at that price. That said, I don't expect the printer to last a very long time - we shall see - my only deduction would be the plastic choices in build quality feel cheap. I would not be surprised to see plastic parts breaking as time goes by. Handle with care, and this may never be an issue.

This printer has worked beautifully right out of the box. It is excellent for photos. I am withholding judgment a little because my long term experience with inkjet’s includes clogged printheads and difficult recoveries, so now when I am gone on a two week vacation I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it is still printing well when I return. But first impressions are that it is a terrific printer.

As a small photographer i have been eying this pronter for a few years. I have owned a regular eco-tank printer and it is the best printer I have ever owned!
I spit out 100 4x6 photos that ive been staching on my computer as soon as I got it.
It is a bit intimidating to set up since there are so many doors and trays, and it took a couple tester prints to fuiguire out that you NEED to select the right paper type when printing, but once I did, I only stopped because I had burned through a whole pack of paper!
Im very excited to keep spritting out prints with this bad boy!
As far as I can see, the colors are on point, and my black amd whites are perfect! And much more cost effective than sending to print!

From the moment I set up the Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550, I knew this was more than your average home all-in-one printer. The cartridge-free supertank design feels like a smart investment: the ink bottles are generous, the printing cost per photo is impressively low, and the spill-proof refills give peace of mind. The six-color Claria ET Premium ink system delivers vivid, rich colors and sharp detail — when printing borderless 13" × 19" photos or high-resolution graphics, the results truly stand out.
The machine handled everything I threw at it: documents, wide-format photos, CD/DVD label printing, even some creative graphic layouts. Print speeds: decent for a high-quality photo output device, though naturally slower than the fastest document-only printers. For photo printing, it’s well-balanced between speed and quality.
The user experience is clean: the interface is intuitive, the wireless connectivity and mobile printing worked smoothly, and the build quality feels robust. If you’re someone who prints large format photos or do frequent creative work (scrapbooking, design mock-ups, etc.), this is a strong performer. Paper handling is solid and supports a nice range of media sizes and types.
On the flip side, there are a few trade-offs to consider. The upfront cost is higher than basic printers, so you’ll want to leverage the photo-print capability to get full value. Print speed, while fine for strong quality, won’t rival the fastest document-printers when you’re doing simple one-page prints. Also, the ink-system though economical over time, may feel over-engineered if your usage is very light (say only occasional home printing). Finally, given the wide-format support and the photo-quality focus, it occupies more space than a compact document-printer — something to check if desk real-estate is tight.
Overall, I’d say: if you’re a hobbyist photographer, creative professional, or someone who loves printing large-format photos and values low ink cost per print, the ET-8550 is exceptional. If you’re just doing basic everyday printing and only rarely need photo prints, you might not use all its strengths. But for its intended audience, it hits the mark beautifully.

While it is too early to review the printer for performance (we have only had it a couple of weeks and have put it through all its capabilities yet) we can report that it does well at ordinary printing for office and personal correspondence. It does excellent scanning of photos, graphics and documents to PDF, JPEG, Tiff. Such copying as we need to do also works well. we have yet to do photo and art printing but will be tryin is out this coming week. Features of the machine like the output tray pushing out while printing after being hidden for neat appearance is cool. thick paper through the back feed works fine. We like the ink tanks instead of cartridges and the pricing on the ink as well.

Only had the printer for a month, so I can't comment on its reliability or durability. However, I can comment on its excellent quality and ease of use. Pictures and documents look fantastic. Some of the most vibrant colors I've seen on standard copy/printer paper. Somewhat pricy and probably wouldn't have bought it at regular price (was on sale at BB at time of purchase).
