Google's Still in the Smart Home Game?
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Were you also surprised that Google's still in the smart home game? Me too! Well here's their Doorbell. It's.... meh. The Google Home app feels like it's been under construction for the past 5 years. It still feels like that. It's super clunky to use. Camera feeds load very slowly. It's not intuitive to search through saved videos or download sections of video. It is buggy and crashes too often. These aren't new issues with the Google Home app, and for that alone, I wouldn't recommend this product. If the Software doesn't work well, the Hardware doesn't matter. But let's talk about the Hardware anyways. Google took the camera and turned it sideways so it shows a tall view instead of a wide view. The claim here is so that you can see packages on the ground with only one camera (i guess some doorbells use two?) It kinda works. I never really thought that was an issue though... although it does seem like a very Google thing to tell you they fixed a problem that was never a problem in the first place. The camera quality is.... quite bad. Actually not just quite bad.. it's really bad. Google has this feature where it tries to recognize faces and you can assign names to them. The camera is so bad, it mixes up faces all the time and is EXTREMELY unreliable. You can't make out facial features all that well, colors are really dull and muted. And then there's the shell. I don't know why, but people seem to struggle to find the doorbell button. To me, it's obvious. It's a ring of light and it lights up and gets excited when you walk up to it. But no one can seem to find the button!! They all end up pressing the camera... Why do they even bother?

1st Gen was better. 2nd gen doesn’t worth.
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used the first gen of Google Nest doorbell for five years (2019-2024) with nest aware to save 5 days of video for $50 y. After I upgraded to this second gen I had issues with the video history and face detection. The Nest Aware subscription didn’t work with the new device. As a result. I had to change the subscription to a more expensive plan ($80), it saves just video clips, not the 24x7 video. If you like the previous version and are thinking about upgrading, I would recommend not to, or consider evaluating other door bells before buying it. Another aspect to consider is, the wired version without the 24x7 doesn’t worth. You can use a battery version to get just clips. Lastly, when someone rings the doorbell, the video delays too much to display in the Google Display or in the phone.

Posted .Hi there, FernandoR. We’re sorry your experience with the Nest doorbell wired 2nd gen) hasn’t been the best. Here’s some tips to get face detection and improve video delays:
For face detection:
1. Position your camera so it can see faces easily. Familiar face detection works best when the subject is directly approaching the camera.
2. Check the lighting around your camera. Check your camera’s view at different times during the day to make sure that there’s no glare from the sun or other light sources.
3. Review your familiar faces library on a regular basis during the first few weeks, especially after you add a new person.
Regarding video delays:
1. Your camera’s video can also be delayed by a slow network connection.
2. Try quitting the Home app or the Nest app and opening it again. If that doesn’t work, you can try restarting your phone or device you’re watching with.
3. The video can be delayed if your camera, phone, tablet or computer is connected to a Wi-Fi extender, which adds extra relay time to any device that’s using it. In this case, connect your camera directly to your Wi-Fi router to help reduce the delay.

Dead after 6 weeks
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very disappointed in the gen 2 product. A step down in nearly every single way from the first wired doorbell, particularly build quality. My first gen Nest doorbell lasted approximately 5 years which is awesome. I purchased this one December 1st , 2023 and it was dead 1/14/24. Really disappointing, and made worse poor technical support from google. Basically jerk you around and waste hours of time doing stupid things. I genuinely think their goal is to break you down so you give up. Ontop of that you will be forced to use the google home app (this camera is not compatible with NEST). For those who have used both apps, the difference is night and day. Google home is a mess (no integration with most nest products , extremely limited functionality). I guess the only good thing I can say about this camera is it is cheaper than gen 1, and the video quality is pretty good... because of the horrific hardware and software issues avoid this camera

google home app/nest is terrible
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.upgraded to the wired doorbell after a pathetic experience with the battery version (no where close to the advertised battery life and I was having to charge it once every 2-3 days). Wired version comes with all required mounting hardware and is smaller than the battery version. The recording quality is also better. That's where the pros end. I have constantly gotten issues with the doorbell failing to connect to google home. Obviously wifi/connection is not an issue since the battery version had no issues streaming, I only returned it because it would not last longer than 2-3 days. The wired gen 2 will constantly show the device as "offline" even though it will give a notification that a person/vehicle/package was seen but will not let you access any of the footage. Bestbuy total tech will not help regarding this and google support isnt strong. I dont believe this is a hardware issue, its a well documented software/integration issue. Highly suggest going to a different brand until google home gets its stuff ironed out. Im very disappointed.

Absolute Garbage! AVOID!!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Google Nest Cam products are total garbage. Don't waste your money. Literally NEVER works when we need it, seldom can show live video (despite have 2 different internet services with 3 routers each and FAST bidirectional wifi everywhere in and outside our home). We TOTALLY regret investing in the Nest ecosystem and are planning to remove and purchase a REAL camera system.

Doesn't turn on
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is one of the worst purchases that I have spent my money on for a Google product. It randomly turns off and stays off however long it desires. Google support line is also useless. I chose nest over ring because everything I have at home are Google products, thermostat, speaker, phones etc. But this one is definitely waste of money.

Posted .Hi JohnP, we really appreciate your feedback on Nest Doorbell (2nd gen, wired), and it’s unfortunate to hear it randomly turns off.
While the Nest doorbell can replace most wired doorbells, there are some cases where the doorbell system either doesn’t provide enough power or provides too much power. You should check that your current doorbell can be replaced by the Nest doorbell. And if you’re replacing the old Nest Doorbell (wired) with the 2nd gen doorbell, you’ll need to remove the chime connector that came with it, too. The first gen doorbell connector is not compatible with the 2nd gen doorbell.

Jesus what a waste of money
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great until I had to change my wifi. Bought it in October 2022 and yesterday had to change my Wi-Fi access point and password because of a new router. Omg now my doorbell camera WILL NOT function no matter what. Can’t merely go into the app and change Wi-Fi info. No, that would be too simple and make too much sense. No. You have to remove the device completely from the Home app, then scan the teeny tiny barcode on the back and hope it reinstalls successfully. No such luck for me. I wasted 180.00 for an item that now simply makes noise, much like my old cheapie doorbell (with no camera) that it replaced. Says it doesn’t have enough power. Wiring not changed!! Worked previously!! Waste of cash. Google won’t verify my warranty online because the device is not installed under my email. DUH. I can’t reinstall it!! Will not buy another one of these, no matter the brand. Don’t waste your money.

Don't Bother.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This doorbell sucks. When I open the app it takes approx. 10-15 seconds to get the full resolution to show on live view. It didn't do this when new. Upon receiving a notification I go view the video and it will not show me the complete recording at times or it will say video is not ready. What's the point of a video doorbell if I can't see my recordings or live feeds at full res instantly?

Swindled, out of stock switcharoo?
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this several months ago for my wife. It was on sale and she wanted it for her upcoming birthday. I chose the wireless option as our home has no existing doorbell. It came and I put it away. Her birthday just passed and what was shipped was a wired item. I am now past the return date so I am stuck with this. I don't know why it defaulted to change the item to wired, I KNOW I DIDN'T order wired, but the receipt shows it of course.

Very disappointed
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No one told me when it loses Wi-Fi you have to reset it in person. I bought it for an out of state condo. It lost Wi-Fi connection for no reason. I’ve had a ring for years and have never had to reset Wi-Fi or anything thing else. Huge disappointment and useless! Also the inside door bell made a constant buzzing sound. So I had to hear that or have no inside door bell. I chose not to hear the door bell also annoying. We used geek squad to install.

||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned this doorbell/camera for three months and twice it has been unresponsive and not functional. Not a simple process by any stretch. I intend to contact google and request a replacement.

Posted .Hello there, EusaV. Thanks for posting a review about the Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen). We understand that having a wider camera view can be ideal for you. However, unlike some other video doorbells, Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) has a 145° diagonal field of view at 3:4 aspect ratio. It is intended so you can see people from head to toe, and packages left on the ground.
While the newer model offers improved features like increased resolution, better night vision, and a sleeker design, we acknowledge the trade-off in field of view. We're constantly evaluating user feedback and exploring ways to optimize future models to balance desired features with a wider field of view. In the meantime, you may be able to adjust the viewing angle slightly within the Home app settings for better coverage depending on your porch layout. Or if possible, consider mounting the doorbell slightly higher or at a slight angle to capture a wider area.

Beware before you buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are upgrading from a later generation beware because nobody is mentioning this...Google is transitioning their new products to Google Home which in terms means that all the older products Thermostats, Cameras, Locks, etc. will stay in the Nest App while the new products only go through Google Home and will not show in the Nest App. Which means you can only view live video and talk amongst visitors on through the Google App. Its a bummer and immediately returning product.
