I have never installed a smart thermostat and my house is a mid seventies build with no c wire and a radiant heat/boiler system. Before installing I viewed some install videos and the install went fast and easy. Product works great and I prefer the softer light and display of this nest to the original which we have installed in another part of the home. I would highly recommend this thermostat.

Even though it's a cheaper model than Nest's mainstream thermostat, it's still a great product. I don't see much of a difference compared to more expensive model, other than screen resolution, but screen resolution plays no significant role in thermostat functionality. I even like frosted screen of E thermostat better. This model has probably less "learning abilities" than it's more expensive sibling, but what it has is perfectly OK with me. It has a schedule, remote app, ECO mode, home-away functionality, I don't need much else. In fact I would prefer "learning abilities" to be disables as I witnessed strange behavior from more expensive NEST thermostat. Also, this E thermostat works with pretty much all HVAC units (I once installed the same model with HVAC which was 35+ years old). The app on the phone is great and the fact that it comes with a sensor for the same price makes it a bargain. I bought two E thermostats for two houses and they both are working fine, no issues, no WiFi drops. I highly recommend this product!

Excellent product when on sale. Google recently came out with lower price version of Nest, but I purchased this combo on sale which includes one remote sensor. Nest-E was compatible with my simple single-stage Aquatherm hydronic/freon hybrid system (using "gas forced air" setting for heat). My system does not have c-wire which is used to power the Nest-E, but was not a problem because Nest-E will "borrow" power from the other Y-G-W-R wires to recharge its own battery. This method does not work with all systems so you need to check compatibility on Nest site and then try it out; it still may not work, but its worth a try. If you get an error message during setup about not having enough power, you can try charging the internal battery first via its micro-usb port from a common 1 amp or higher USB power cube. Nest-E was easy to setup; menu and app basically walks you through the process step-by-step. Remote sensor works great to control the temperature of a specific room, e.g., bedroom, instead of being driven by the thermostat which is usually in a hallway. Controls/Options are fairly basic with a few extra features, but more than adequate for my needs. Due to my changing schedules, I manually control the temperature and not use the auto-schedule nor their learning features. Display shows large, easy-tread soft pastel-color digits; option to turn on when you walk by is cool and convenient. Selecting options is convenient and easily done by rotating outer ring and pressing in to Enter - a nice alternative to the typical clicking different buttons. Display: Only minor complaint is lack of info on interpreting the display. The large center digits is the selectable desired temperature (opposite of Honeywell which shows the current room temperature). The actual room temperature (at the thermostat or chosen sensor) is the smaller number and is accompanied with a small analog "clock-like hand" which rotates around like a clock. When the "hand" is in 12noon position, that is 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The "hand" rotates clockwise when increasing and counter-clockwise when decreasing and then just disappears when it reaches the desired temperature (since current equals desire - makes sense (but why not just add info to user manual? :-). Nest App is also fairly basic, mirrors the thermostat hardware, but straightforward to use for setup, mode selection (cool, heat, cool+heat, fan only, off), and adjusting desired temperatures. You can assign location and name of each device. Nest App forces you to sign into your Google account and gives you the option to also use the Google Home app, useful if you have any other Google smart devices, e.g., lights, alarms, etc. Competitive products (Honeywell, Ecobee, Emerson, etc.) all seem good too, but smart thermostats plus sensor usually cost over $200 and Best Buy had a sale for $130 with one sensor which makes this an excellent value. Note that all smart thermostats require the c-wire for power from your HVAC system, with the possible exception if the thermostat contains a provision for a battery, e.g., AA batteries. Overall, very happy with the Nest-E plus Sensor so far. YMMV because there is a large number of legacy HVAC systems and not all smart thermostats are compatible so be prepared to troubleshoot if setup does not go easily. My one Google phone support phone call was excellent: quick to answer, personable, patient, helpful suggestions, escalation to 2nd level if need.)

Very Happy with this product so far. It does exactly what I need it to do. Setup is a breeze, but make sure you read the instructions very thoroughly before getting started. DONT blow your fuse out by just going ahead and installing! One downside i will say is, there are no real troubleshooting guides in case this thing fails. You will more likely get a common error of no power, no worries, it's fairly easy to look up online and troubleshoot. anyways, this is an excellent item. on top of the price i ordered it at ($130) it came with a temperature sensor...what a score. In all honesty, as much as I like the gen 3 and the cool led look, i just couldnt justify spending the extra moolah on it. At the end of the day its a thermostat and its not like you can watch tv on it or anything. Save yourself a few buck and roll with this...its cheaper and serves the same purpose.

Thermostat installation was simple and thermostat works as advertised. Have not tried the temperature sensor yet, but will do so shortly and I believe that it will help regulate the bedroom temperature at night. The only thing I dislike about it is that the battery needs to charge once you install it before you can connect it up to your wifi. I don't remember having to wait on my Nest Learning Thermostat that I installed in another home.

I was thinking of getting the expensive model, but after reading reviews and this one went on sale so I bought this one. Easy to install. The item was low in battery so I called Nest support and the customer service person walked me step-by-step to resolved it. Setting up the temperature sensor was also quick and easy. Installed for couple weeks now and so far it is working great.

This is my 3rd time purchasing a Nest E. Bought for my new house and I’m really happy with it. Glad it came with the additional temperature sensor - I placed it downstairs. It was really easy to install. I prefer the white color to the other options offered by Nest. I think the Nest E is a better value over the upgraded Nest. This item learns the preferred temps easily and integrates easily with other google items. My only complaint is that I saw an abnormal spike in internet usage after installing.

U love my nest. Admittedly, I don't use all of the smart features but I love being able to control it from any internet connected device and they look good. I debated between the E and the regular expensive one. It came down to these being so cheap and I actually think they look better.

Installation was easy with the online help. I didn't know the Heating and Cooling System on my in-laws house and couldn't get anymore information. I contacted the Nest group through online chat and they walked me thru the steps. They sent me a picture of the wiring diagram I should use and it worked like a charm. I downloaded the Nest App to my phone and connected it so that I could control the system from wherever I was. Also this house is remote and has frequent power outages which can cause the furnace to stop working and since no one is usually there that was a concern, it gets cold in the winter and the pipes could freeze. No I can keep an eye on the temp remotely and get somebody there to reset the furnace. I can also change the temp remotely so that it is comfy when by the time we arrive for a visit. It will save us money by keeping the heating and cooling temps where they need to be using the Eco settings while no one is there.

Bought 3 of these to replace older digital thermostats in our home, and add to our Google Home. So far we like them after a few months of use, including the winter time. I installed them myself- wasn't any harder than the previous digital thermometers I had (I only have heat, not central AC however). Took a little getting used to as the old units had a "hold temp" function which needed to be released to return to the program. With these, a change in temp is "held" until the next time point on the program is reached. Can be useful if you forget to turn the "hold" off as it will revert back to its program on its own. Haven't used the temp sensors yet, but that will be installed soon since we're using more heat.

Great solution especially if you don't have a c-wire. Temp sensor is helpful if placement of existing thermostat is not ideal. Looks better/discreet on the wall than old school thermo with buttons (next to art work etc.)

I was a bit dubious about how well the smart thermostat would work, but purchasing it on sale with a $100 rebate from the local electric company made it very enticing to try it out. And I'm so glad I did. Installation was a bit daunting at first, but ended up being very straightforward. Since then, the unit has been on a learning curve concerning when I'm at home and what are my temp preferences, but so far, so good. Would highly recommend.

I caught this package on sale and had to go for it. Installation is straightforward, and programming is way easier than an off-line thermostat. I did have to charge the thermostat off of my computer for a couple of hours because the battery was low, but other than that no complaints

Pretty easy to install, but on 2 of 3 of them, I have had trouble getting the heat to work. In one case, I stripped a little more insulation off the yellow wire and that did it. On the other, I still haven't solved it yet. So they are a little finnicky sometimes. But once you get them working, being able to schedule, and check/adjust temperature from the app is really convenient.
