Movie gets a bad rap. Who hasn't thought of jumping into a refrigerator to avoid a nuclear blast?! Fun family flick that I recommend. Fantastic!

This is one of my go-to movies. If you don't like mummies, Indiana Jones, or Romancing The Stone, then you'll really hate this movie also.

Let me share with you what the gods shared with me. Ultimately, pain and suffering is all mankind will ever know. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a great addition to this historical trilogy ... the Indiana Jones films are some of the best works ever produced. Crystal Skull begins ten years after the infamous crash landing at Roswell New Mexico on a military base in Nevada. Doctor Jones is forced by Soviet agents to locate the remains of the alien that crashed on that fateful night in hangar number 51. The crate he is looking for is highly magnetized so this produces an opportunity for Indy to not only find the remains, but to rid the Soviets of their weapons. After finding the crate the scene is set for Indy's big escape. (Bet you didn't see that coming) Indy's first attempt at freedom is thwarted by a-a well, I won't say but this leads up to a more exciting and Houdini like exit from Hangar 51. (I did not notice, but was told the Ark of the Covenant can be seen during Indy's escape.) Alright, Indy escaped the Russians (was there any doubt?) But now he's found himself in an atomic bomb testing town mere seconds before a bomb is to be dropped. Wowsers! How will Indiana survive this? Indiana returns to find out he is under FBI investigation because his friend is a Soviet agent. First he tried to kill Indy now he betray's his country. Staying true to the Indiana films, Doctor Jones returns to Marshall University, where he is offered a leave of absence to avoid being fired because of the investigation. Here is when we meet Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf) star of 2007 blockbuster Transformers Transformers Mutt tells Indy that his old friend has disapperred after discovering the crystal skull outside of Peru. So, like Carmen San Diego, we are off to Peru. Upon discovering that Harry Oxley was placed in a Peruvian jail and then kidnapped by the Russians, Indiana discovers clues to the whereabouts of Francisco de Orellana's grave, a Conquistador who vanished in the fifteen hundreds looking for El Dorado--the fabled city of gold. Indy and Mutt, guided by clues only the gods can see, discover the crystal skull in Orellana's grave. I will leave it there for those who haven't seen this spectacular addition to the Indiana Jones' lineup. Some say that George Lucas should have left this series alone. I say Thank you George Lucas for giving us another wonderful film, and for staying faithful to the original trilogy. If you love Indiana Jones, you'll love this film. And if you didn't, well ... not everyone has good taste.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (KOTCS) is the newest addition of the timeless Indiana Jones series. All of the talent that made the first three films what they are has returned (including Karen Allen, Indy's love interest from Raiders of the Lost Ark), but there's one major problem with the film: It's been twenty years since the last Indy film was made, and thus a film that might have been much better received had it been made in the early 90's has become a mixed bag of tricks for most. Now, I should first say that I rather liked this film, so if your opinion differs and you really refuse to hear otherwise, then this review is not for you. With that said, KOTCS begins in the mid-50's with Dr. Jones and his friend George finding themselves in the captivity of a gang of Soviet spies, led by Dr. Irina Spalko who is Stalin's head of paranormal research. It turns out that they've been taken to a secret facility at Area 51 (where, it turns out that the government stashed the Ark of the Covenant in the first film; not one of this film's more intelligent moments), and that Spalko wants Jones to help them find a mysterious artifact. *There are spoilers below, but I recommend reading on even if you haven't seen this. It will likely make the movie easier to deal with when you see it* It turns out the artifact is an alien body. The Russians are seeking a mysterious crystal skull which Spalko believes will allow the Soviets to eventually acquire mind control, with which they can indoctrinate the entire world. Jones must, of course, stop them, with the help iof teenage hooligan Mutt Williams who comes to Jones for help in finding his stepfather, an old friend of Indy's who in fact married Marian Ravenwood, Indy's love interest from Raiders of the Lost Ark. A lot of the film lacks originality, as in the past twenty years, much of what the first three films made so fresh and timeless has been re-done a few too many times. It's possible that this film would have been better received as a unique entity, rather than as an attempt to recapture Indy's former glory. It's possible that the original trilogy has acquired a reputation slightly greater than what it deserved because it has become such a significant part of many of our lives. I enjoyed KOTCS. There were some good chases, and in a few moments, the jokes about Harrison Ford's old age really hit home. This is a fun period actioner. If you liked the old films, and you're willing to forgive it's inferiority, give it a shot. Hopefully you'll share my opinion of it.

It is interesting to note all of the criticisms for this film when if anyone paid any attention to the intentions of the creators, they would understand the reason for the sci-fi ending. This movie, as in the other films in the series, is based on the popular cinema of the period that the film takes place in. The first three films followed the serials of the 30s as they were all SET in the 30s. Serial adventures full of cliffhangers banking on the outrageous but nonetheless enormously entertaining. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull takes place in the 50s. What was the popular cinema of the time? Science Fiction films with aliens and UFOs aplenty. So to stick with the formula of correlating an Indy film with the popular genre of the era the movie is based in did not change. Thus the explanation of the ending and the cheesiness of certain scenes/effects. Indy4 is another throwback to the films of yesteryear. It is impossible to live up to people's expectations with sequels to beloved franchises. It is perhaps one of the trickiest tasks to pull off in Hollywood. In conclusion, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull follows the same formula of the first three and you will feel like you just watched an Indiana Jones movie when it is over. Critical nitpicking is allowed, but it may hinder you from enjoying the ride. This movie is designed to thrill and it is effective. Enjoy.
