I was able to buy this speaker for just 25 dollars during the weekend sale and it is awesome. The sound is very good, works fine as a google assistant and it's great to have a battery so you can unplug it and take it wherever you want.

I don't know where to begin. This was a Super deal at My Super Store , Best Buy. It delivers Quality sound through Google Assistant , all the requested music types at your command ( time and temperature displayed ). It is truly a personal assistant on hand , unlimited resource to information. Then to top all that off, I purchased this at a Black Friday's Best Buy price, an unbelievable deal.

This box has a great sound. Good base and its portable. Large battery with Google Assit built in. I use it for my bed alarm clock and I sleep with the white noise on. Just say google play white noise. You can ask it for news, weather, sports and play music or a radio station. I love it.

Pros: Sound volume and quality is quite good for the discounted price. Works just fine with Google Assistant for most features (no calls, no porting audio from TV to this speaker). Cons: Battery doesn't last very long, maybe 3 hours maximum. Even when not playing music, just being disconnected to AC. Occasionally loses WiFi connection and requires restarting the unit. After approximately 2 1/2 years in, the digits on the temperature display started going out. Who knows how long the other digits will last.

This speaker has great sound and Google assistant, allowing me to do everything I can do with my Google home. Having a clock displayed is a big plus, for me anyway. The top of the unit is blank until you put your hand close to it, then the volume controls light up, nice touch. The only thing is, this speaker is rather large compared to the Google home. Since I bought it online and picked it up at the store, I wasn't aware of how large it actually is. No big deal, just be aware there is a difference in the footprint if your used to how small the Google unit is. (see pic) Highly recommended.

Got this portable Bluetooth speaker on sale. Wasn’t expecting much but was surprised at how clear and loud it is. The google assistant comes in handy too. Great buy for the money!

I bought one of these Insignia Smart Portable Bluetooth Speaker and Alarm Clock with Google Assistant for my wife and she fell in love with the Google Assistant! I'm not a tech savvy type or person, but my wife is and she now is always talking to this google assistant as she makes her shopping list and other reminders which she says makes her day that much easier!

everything works great but it is at least twice or three times a month I always have to reset it don’t know why. but it’s a little annoying other than that it works great when it’s not messing up. and best buy makes great products but this is the only one that’s messing up the first time and I’ve been buying Best Buy products for over 20 years.

First off.. I posted a youtube video comparison between this insignia, the smaller insignia and the google home and home mini using shure microphones with no gain change. Search youtube for "MtnXfreeride Insignia Voice" to see it. I hear no difference between plugged in and running off battery which I like. This speaker is a little lacking on the highs/clarity. It can sound like the sub is straining at high volume. I wish hovering my hand or pressing the circle button on the top would initiate google assistant but they dont. Temperature only shows for 5 seconds and ONLY when you ask. Sound quality is very similar to the Google Home - it is better on some songs with its extra speaker for bass and it gets louder (by a bit). This speaker doesn't dim down the highs on bass hits las much as the google home sometimes does. I have only run it off battery with music for 1.5 hours at a time and had no issues. I can bring it into the bathroom while I shower which is nice. I wish it could charge wirelessly via a charging pad or dock to plop it in or have a magnetic plug. Its a very nice looking speaker and seems to be a quality built insignia product. I like the carry handle too. I am sure another company can put out a more powerful product like this, but I am betting it will cost 2x this product. I think its a good value.

I own 2 Google Home devices and 3 Google Home mini devices. This was on sale so I decided to get it because it offered portability with a rechargeable battery and had Google Assistant built in. All I can say is...WOW!!! This thing sound amazing! Seriously sounds way better than my Google Home devices and the fact that I can unplug it and carry it around is a huge benefit! The ability to take it out to the patio without having to stop the music playing while I unplug it to move it and then wait for it to boot back up is amazing! The sound quality in this thing is way better than my Google Home devices! I listen to a lot of music as I move around my home, but can not blast my home stereo as I have neighbors, so this thing makes my quality of like much better! I am planning on saying multiples of this Insignia to my home so that I can enjoy quality sound all over my home! I definitely recommend this device!!

I've had this speaker for over four years now, and it's genuinely the best Google Home product I have purchased. The speakers sound great, the alarm is clear, and it has plenty of battery life. I like the Bluetooth feature, as I've used that when the power goes out to listen to music from my phone. It's also really nice to take to the kitchen to listen to music while I cook. The voice is clear and easy to understand, and treble/bass can be adjusted through the Google Home app. It's a very nice speaker, and a very nice Google Home product. Looks great on my desk too!

I first heard this speaker and it's smaller sibling at my local Best Buy. I was in the market for my first smart speaker that was based on the Google Assistant. Of course, the choices are growing as this segment grows in popularity. Not only do you have Google Home, now in three sizes, but Sony and JBL have added their take, to name a few. Really, it comes down to what you want from your speaker. I wanted something that sounded good, offered as many features as possible including portability that didn't cost a small fortune. The Insignia Voice Portable was exactly what I wanted, and more! Why not Alexa? There are a ton of choices. Cortana? Siri? Not so many choices but both have their take on a speaker, too. For me, it's about ecosystem, and I'm in Google's way more than any other. I'm a fan of Android since the beginning and will continue to be. I prefer Google Assistant to the others. I have the option to use Alexa through some Amazon apps on my devices, which I do. As a tech nerd, I really like more having more options. This speaker (and the smaller version) and the Sony are your only choices within Google Assistant (GA for short) if you want a display giving them an alarm clock vibe. When you set an alarm, timer, or countdown by voice or your regular device, the speaker display responds accordingly along with the confirmation by the male or female voice from Google. You can change the gender by voice. Aside from my phone and tablet, my Nvidia Shield TV all use GA. The speaker serves as an always-on way to turn some of my lights on and off, change color and brightness of one of those lights, play music from several services and answer questions. It really does so many things. I can turn my TV on and off by voice using the Shield or my Google Chromecast. You can get YouTube videos up and running. It's fun trying commands out. Because the GA is evolving, new features come via updates. Right now, phone calls aren't supported but may come in the future. Otherwise, you can do most anything the Google Home can do. You use the Google Home app to set it up and personalize your settings. As a speaker, this larger version sounds great. It's got a 2.5 inch subwoofer on the bottom and with the drivers, it puts out plenty of sound. It may not be audiophile quality, but I think it's quite surprising how full and rich it is. Audio is subjective so it is hard to know how each person will interpret the sound. When casting music using Chromecast built-in, you can't use an EQ but you can if you're using Bluetooth connectivity. I find it to suit my needs perfectly. It can be part of an audio group to play music throughout your home which might appeal to you. If you want to change the brightness of the display, change the volume, manually prompt Google Assistant, you can use the capacitive buttons on top which use a proximity sensor to detect your hand. You can set it to lower the volume to 20 by waving your hand over the top. That feature used to be mandatory but an update changed that, along with some other features mentioned in earlier reviews. The temperature display stays on for a minute after you all the local temp or anywhere in the world. It also comes on if you ask for the local forecast. It's a little thing but I like having that feature and it makes it unique. The box states it's battery lasts five hours. I've been getting longer than that by an hour or more, depending on what you do while it's running on the battery. The display flashes when it should be plugged in and you can check the battery level with buttons. There are different combinations of the three buttons for different tasks. There's a button on the back to mute the microphone, turn it off or reset the unit. Next time your in your local Best Buy, try it out. I know it's hard to fully appreciate sound while in a store but you can get a good idea. Insignia really did a great job with this speaker. It doesn't feel cheap at all. It doesn't come in white or a similar color, but the dark colors should fit in with the decor of most homes, if that's important to you. Overall, I think most people will share my enthusiasm. Thanks for reading!

Best value in Google Home speakers

I bought this speaker for $25. For the same price as a Google Home Mini, I got a MUCH better sounding speaker, time display and a battery backup/ability to take the speaker around the house with me. The build quality is excellent. I already had an existing Google Home setup, so I had absolutely no trouble setting the speaker up. I also had no trouble getting the latest updates, as some other folks seems to have had. In many of the other reviews, I think that the complaints were really about Google Assistant as opposed to the speaker unit itself. Since the latest Google Assistant update I have been able to: * Make phone calls when paired with my phone * Leverage "Routines" in my Google Home setup to set alarms remotely and to set an alarm to go off every day at the same time without having to set it every day * Set up alarms to wake me up with music and then turn on the lights On the minus side: * I can't send a text * The temperature display doesn't stay on But those are minor quibbles that don't bother me all that much. So needless to say, I would highly recommend this unit as both and alarm clock and speaker. You just can't beat it for the price.

49.99? Best alternative to Google Home OG there is

Well almost....It can't do phone calls like the original line of google homes but that's not a bad thing if you leave the speaker in a high traffic area. I know there is voice match but sometimes I feel a little weary that someone can mimic my voice and maybe make phone calls anyway. So if you're paranoid like me, losing the calling feature may not be such a bad thing. I love the portability option though I rarely use it. I can bring it downstairs or to the garage or backyard when I'm out there. I'm just afraid over charging may kill the battery. I'm not sure if there is tech in the speaker to prevent that. Sound is loud and bass is above average for a speaker of this design. It does all the same things as the Google home minus the one feature at a fraction of the price. The clock part is the best. I know if you're single, you can just scream out to the OP homes and it'll tell you the time but when you share a bed with someone, it's best you just open your eyes and check it yourself. TLDR: Money well spent! -1 star for not being as fully featured as the OG Homes but it's close. 4.5 stars if I could
