It took me a while to get it working, but it was not Lacie's fault. My router would not recognize it properly, and i could not back up my files to it using Time Machine (Mac). After changing the router, it worked flawlessly! The idea of two layers back up is awesome and I didn't find any competition offering it! The app also works great on my iPhone. If you want a share drive (for family and friends with the possibility of setting different levels of trust and access), two layers back up drive (HD and Cloud), large storage capacity and pay nothing for the service (besides the drive itself) look no further. For the not so tech savvy, they offer paid phone support, or free online support. The later is answered within 24 hours. I did a thorough research before making my decision!

First of all, this is my first installation of a cloud hard drive and so, the benefits of having a personal cloud is significant. It enables you to stream more types of file structures to your TV like a media server through your network Many smart TVs and blu ray players can only stream limited types of files which is extremely no use. This cloud enables that. Now, lets touch on the hardware itself. This is a 3 TB drive which has plenty of space to store. It is very easy to install and I was done installing within 10 minutes. It does take sometime for the drive to scaan itself and be seen on the network but that does not take more than 5 - 10 minutes. At a decent price, this is a good use. It is built well and not heavy duty and hence not too portable.

This was very easy to get up and running. The GUI is a little lackluster. I have this device in my basement connected to my network switch so I'm not aware of any of the noise issues that others have mentioned. I think the device works as advertised and I haven't had any issues.

I like that this device has separate users as well as a main family user. It gives a sense of privacy between family members while still using the same storage device.

Is my 1st lacie works Perfect for My work, accessing remotly, the only thing i will recommend?... Improve the desing

This product never worked as advertised and the company was very hard to deal with. It drops connectivity after about an hour and then needs to be reset (it archive data to a restore folder). The first time I tried to use it I was copying the content of a folder and it just stopped and would not work. I contacted support and they said to do a reset (paperclip boot). Worked for a while and then stopped. I have wasted so much time trying to use this and of course the warranty is out. The company will allow we to return for exchange but the charge for this is about 1/4 of what I paid. Doesn't make it worth while. DO NOT buy this product.

I bought this for the price. I went to buy a MyCloud from WD because I own one and it was easy to set up and use. The price tag on the LaCie caught my eye. I was surprised at how hard it was to set up as a cloud device. This is not the cloud storage device for a beginner.

Kept asking for a password that I never had setup and am still trying to figure this thing out. But I am not a computer geek by any means so maybe its me. Have to wait and see.

I only get this device to work every now and then...My computer doesnt seem to want to find it on the network regardless of firewall permissions etc...I dont know why.

easy to set up, lots of space transfers lightning fast.. excellent drive love it!

Little confusing for the first try at installing. Very familiar with the brand And love the ways you can access the drive. I would definately recommend it.

This is the best one I have found. It allows you to manage the user rights in a browser.

I short, this is best external Hard Drive (HD) I have ever used. I will go though each one by one: Instillation: This could not be easier. Literally, you plug the HD into the Router and then turn it on. Return in 3-9 minutes and it is ready. Serious, that is it. NO software to install. No optimization to be done. It worked perfectly with my wired Windows 7 desktop and Mac snow leopard laptop. Back up. After registering, software is available for Windows and Mac. I have only tried the Windows software. The included software is more than adequate being able to select comprehensive back up or select folders (like music/video/pictures) and with the option to automatically back it up (I choose weekly). Performance. I have Cisco 3000 router (802.11n and Gigbit network). Therefore transfer speeds I achieved was ~0.25 gigabits per minute wireless from my laptop and 1.72 gigabits per minute wired from my desktop. When accessing file, it does go to sleep. Examples. When you boot your computer the first time and access the next work it will take ~5-7 seconds to connect with the drive after double clicking the device. Also when you are at the computer and have already access the drive for the first, if you do not use it for 5 minutes, it will take ~ 2 second to run a video. After activating the drive it will take just under one second to run a video. NAS: It is so simple to share files with other computer and any DLNA device. After instillation, my TV (Panasonic Viera tc-p60vt60) instantly paired with it and was ready to go to listen to music/photos/video. It also has an awesome Cloud Box feature. After you active it on your drive, you can access your HD from most anyware. (For the technically inclined, it connects with Lacie's server to keep track of your IP address, so you don't need a static IP address, and UPNP sets your router to forward all port 8080 traffic) For the rest of us, it just works! After logging on Lacie's Cloud Box site, it connects you with your drive. I have not been able to test this a lot because my work is very strict and blocks most traffic. Value: Great. No regrets Noise of operation: Very quite. You can hear it but not distracting.

This product was easy to set up and allows me to store the files of several computers onto a single external drive with easy wireless access.

I can't emphasize the importance of backups and this will make your life so much easier.
