I bought the Blu ray only because this movie has yet to be produced in 4K. This is one of my favorite war movies. It shows that in war, the other side has the same disruption of life,the same fears and the same hopes and dreams.And that maybe all combat soldiers just want to get back home and to normal life without warfare. Time will show this to be a classic film. The film has near black and white photography with splashes of color(explosions) to give the film a bleak look. I listened to track 2 5.1 DD true HD and it was immersive with explosions and gun fire heard in distance.

History told from different views, Letters From Iwo Jima tells the story of hardship, duty, honor and sacrifice from the Japanese, Ken Watanabe(the Last Samurai, Batman Begins, & Godzilla) gives a truly awarding winning performance in this remarkable film.

Normally, I don't like movies that have to be READ with subtitles all the way through. But this is worth the extra effort. Very unique and poignant perspective from the Japanese side of the war. I had bought this movie years ago, but for some reason, the dvd just seemed to go "blank" and wouldn't play anymore. I wanted to replace it and was glad for my reward certificates!!

A different take, showing the humanity of the enemy. The Americans had a very hard time taking the island. This movie shows how hard it was on the enemy side.

A very interesting movie showing it WWII from the perspective of the Japanese. Similar to Das Boat but the story is superior. Shows that even among who we fought there were always the cannon fodder that just wanted to get back home alive.

I cannot believe that Clint Eastwood made 2 WW2 movies to where one is the Marines side and then this one, which is the Japanese version. Great job!

Clint Eastwood did an excellent job on this movie. It's great to see how things happened from the Japanese side.

I watched the Americasn's perspective in Flags of Our Fathers, and this was a great companion, as it showed the persoective of the Japanese. The movie was well-done, and heart-warming.

Because I love nino I bought this movie I really do love how he portray his character in this movie he make me cry, laugh and get angry but overall it make me love him more

This movie is from the Japanese soldiers perspective with very strong performances and very dramatic and graphic scenes. It's a very good movie.

Clint Eastwood compliments flags of our fathers with this film from the opposite side of the Pacific theater war during ww2

I really enjoyed this movie. But you have to really pay attention as there are lots of subtitles.Great perspective/history in the movie.

It is nice to see a WW II movie from the "other" side and holding true to facts. A good compliment to Flags of our Fathers.

I was looking for this classic Eastwood directed movie at a discount and Best Buy came through AGAIN!!!

This is a great movie and I would suggest it for any WWII buff.

This is movie based on the prospective of a Japanese soldier. Totally different take on the normal WWII movie.

I enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys history.

Clint's followup to Flags of Our Fathers (released just two months later) is equally powerful & memorable. This time, it's Iwo Jima from the point of view of the Japanese soldiers, who fought (some more reluctantly than others) to the death to keep the island from Allied hands. Ken Watanabe is perfect casting as the general in charge of the operation, even though he held respect for the Americans he and his men were fighting. Appropriately, this film is spoken in Japanese with its American director showing the utmost respect for the culture.
