How to Fire a Customer in 10 Minutes

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.My Experience of Buying this Item from Best Buy: I purchased an LG Refrigerator from the Torrance (California) Best Buy on 7/1/23 that was advertised as being in "Open Box - Excellent" condition. After driving across Los Angeles 110 miles round trip to pick up the refrigerator, when I removed the 'packaging' (corner guards and bubble wrap), I discovered that there was mold on some of the door seals, bits of food still inside and significant water stains around the water dispenser. No user guide, manual, or any other paperwork was included. It was taking quite a while to cool down, so I removed the back panel and discovered the condenser was filled with dust. That prompted me to check the tag inside the refrigerator and I found that the date of manufacture was September of 2021. "open Box - Excellent is described as: * Looks Brand New, Includes all original parts/accessories, Typically contains packaging. Their other 'Open Box' buying options are: 10 'Open Box - Satisfactory' which is described as: Minor to moderate cosmetic signs of possible use, Any signs of use will not affect performance, Nonessential parts may be missing OR 2) 'Open Box - Fair' which is described as: Significant signs of use, vital accessories may be missing. I found that speaking to an actual human being at a Best Buy store location was impossible, so I called the Best Buy Returns and Exchanges phone number (as they don't have much else in the way of applicable customer service options) as I felt that a price adjustment was in order. I feel the condition was somewhere between Open Box - Fair and Open Box - Satisfactory. Best Buy essentially told me to go take a hike. I can return the refrigerator, but that means taking out my food (and doing exactly what with it?) and hauling it back to Best Buy. Seems to me that a price adjustment is a more than fair resolution of the situation as this CLEARLY does not meet the criteria of 'Open Box - Excellent' condition - Does the photo included look like it meets the criteria for 'Open Box - Excellent'? Does a refrigerator that was clearly used with a manufacture date of nearly two years meet that description? I understand that mistakes happen, but it is what you do in the aftermath that reveals exactly who you are. The TL/DR version: 1) Buyer beware of expecting Best Buy to rate the true condition of an Open Box item 2) Best Buy had deliberately made it impossible to actually speak to a human being at their retail locations on the phone 3) Their 'Customer Service' system is lousy and lazy at best, and quite possibly downright shady at worst. Hopefully I have enlightened those considering such a future purchase. I know it has certainly influenced my decisions going forward. Congratulations Best Buy, you have fired a 25 year customer in less than 10 mjnutes.

Known Issues with water dispenser

After initial installation a geek squad member came out to determine possible causes. It was determined that there was an existing issue with the board on this model fridge for several months, but when we went about getting it fixed LG wouldn’t work with us directly to replace the board and Best Buy suggested we replace the unit. The next fridge was the same model and had the same issue. After that we decided to go for a different fridge and it was delivered dented and the subcontractors sent to install the fridge were acting very unprofessionally, to the point that it scared my wife.

LG Water filters don't fit this fridge anymore!

The LG water filter replacement cartridge that LG makes now has some ridges on the top that are different than the original LG filter cartridge that came with the refrigerator. When you take the LG replacement and try to screw it in. It won't even turn halfway, sealing improperly making water leak all over the place. I compared the old and new LG filters and the new one is way off in some key areas. What do I do now? Buy bottled water and get old fashioned ice cube trays for my one year old LG fridge? Look at my attached photo. The one with the green label is the old one. Notice how that little odd shaped 5 sided piece of plastic is shaped slightly differently than the other one. It's not just slightly different however-the size of it is very different, making it like some kind of knock off bolt that won't fit the standard nut causing the thing to leak.

Defective fridge and horible Best Buy service

Second one also had the same issue. Called Best Buy and it took almost 2 hours for them to tell us to do everything their installers already tried. They said we had to cal LG to have a tech out. Called LG and they made us do the same run around for an hour trying to fix it. They then said “you need to call Best Buy to have someone come fix it”. After that waist of 3 hours we ordered a fridge from another big box store and told Best Buy to pick this one up. The other Big box store was amazing. Fridge was install in 2 days. Worked great. Delivery crew walked us through everything like it was a new car. Next day Best Buy picked up the other one. You will see what they did to our door with no attempt to do anything about it. In fact during install, they did everything possible to not have to remove the doors on the fridge. Tried to take our screen door and patio door apart instead of just doing it right like the other company did. Very poor customer service, delivery service and I still have a large sum of money that needs to be taken off my card. Definitely shop the competition if anything just for better customer service and delivery crews that will respect your home.

Junk , do not buy! LG repair super slow to service

We’ve only had this fridge for less than a year and the compressor already had an issue and then now goes out again within the 2nd year. LG repair technicians are super slow (limited technicians available) both times to come in to repair so now our food will be wasted and we won’t have a refrigerator for multiple days because the technician will take 5 days to come in. Will never buy LG refrigerator again! Freezer space also very limited. I wish Best Buy sales person didn’t recommend this fridge in the first place.

I'm not sure about LG products

The first LG was defective. The handles wouldn't stay on. BB replaced it with another LG. 4 days later, we heard a loud noise, unsure of where it came from. An hour later, my husband opened the fridge door and found glass everywhere. The top shelf shattered for no reason. We noticed the delivery guys left all the tape on the shelf hooks, which probably caused the shelf to not be secured. Now, BB is bringing another refrigerator. If there is a problem with this one, we will be going back to a Maytag, and I will never purchase anything made by LG

Bad job best buy

When i had a power surge it broke the fridge and caused a spark in my house.

Not too happy

The store staff said it was not their fault (it never is) so I feel I was lied to when I purchased the item. I’ll see if the claims dept will do something about it. So far, not a very good experience, although I spent over 3,000 dollars in this purchase.

Less than a month old and it’s not cooling

Waiting on a repairman

Scratches EASILY.

It has been only 4 months and we have 2 visible scratches on the front. What’s the point of using a finish that scratches so easily??!! We have no dogs and everyone here is old enough to be careful. The scratches have most likely happened from wiping the front. We are happy with the functionality of the fridge but I imagine that within a couple years the entire front will look horrible.

It super frustating to be treated this way. Best Buy and LG complete failure

Two months ago the ice maker quit working. Turned out it was the fan blowing cold air up to the ice maker. Found part online and got it working again. Now the entire upper fridge section is not working. Called geek squad to come out and troubleshoot/fix problem. Geek tech did some diagnostics and determined it was a faulty control board. Was given an invioce for estimated cost. Paid the invioce in order to get the control board ordered so we could get the fridge running as soon as possible. Follow up apointment for control board replacement was the next Friday. Friday came, received txt the tech would be arriving between 1 and 5. 6 o’clock no tech. Called geek support and got the run around. Finally was told “tech had family emergency’” and didn’t make it. (No kidding). Ask when to reschedule and earliest date was the following Thursday. Called back the next day to confirm appointment and it was never made. Now being told it is more than two weeks out. Not happy with the LG problem unit and more disappointed with Best Buy and the horrible tech support. Overall zero stars for both LG and Best Buy. And i still have a broken fridge.

Poor Quality, Total Tech Deception, Ruined Holiday

My fridge, barely over a year old, died more than THREE WEEKS before Thanksgiving, and they couldn’t fix or replace it in time for the holiday. For the $2,200 price tag, I expected much better reliability. The fact that it failed so quickly is a clear indication of poor quality, especially for a product I trusted to last much longer. My Experience I reported the issue on November 6, and the earliest appointment (with a $105 fee) wasn’t until November 14. The tech came out, said it needed a new Main Control Board, and assured me the part would arrive overnight. Fast forward to November 19, and I’m told the part still hasn’t shipped. I asked for a supervisor to contact me. On November 21 I heard back, only to be told the part is no longer available from the manufacturer, and my fridge will be replaced—except they can only offer me the Black Friday sale price, not what I paid. The icing on the cake? The earliest replacement appointment is December 5. Meanwhile, I find the part online from LG available with overnight shipping proving they lied about availability. Best Buy and Geek Squad have completely ruined my holiday and shown zero urgency or competence. Never again.

Do not purchase!!

The water and ice feature were not working. highly suggest to skip this model. I wasted weeks for a new delivery followed by another defective delivery just to wait another week for a new model. The customer service received was subpar and honestly very disappointing.

Extremely dissatisfied and disappointed.

Installed in early afternoon. By early evening had error code. Called LG and they told me to call the store for this code. Called Best Buy and was told that the code was related to the ice maker and a new unit would be sent this week. The installers set the temps at 37 and 0. The freezer was still at 20 degrees 24 hours later. Did not get to zero. Got as low as 5. The refrigerator inside never got below 42. The ice maker did not make ice for 24 hours. Note: the cubes are very small and the ice container is not large. Instead of getting a replacement I am getting a different make. I have had 3 LG tv over the years and never had a problem. Thought they knew how to make good refrigerators. The repair men said that LG has a lot of problems and most are associated with the linear compressor. Replaced a 20 yr. old RCA Whirlpool side by side who's only problem was the refrig. door would not stay shut. It opened slightly. Wish I still had that unit.

After a week or less no ice nor water.

The only bad detailed is that the ice maker quit working after a week of purchase. I quit buying samsung cause they´re very problematic. My other refrigerator is a samsung and it took a whole month providing ice and water to repair the ice maker. This piece took a week to stop making ice and filtered water. I wouldn´t recommend to buy this kind of ref.
