    Beautiful Product / Poor Performance

I purchased this refrigerator 14 months ago, and I was very impressed with its capacity and features. For several months I was very pleased with this product, but after about 9 months, the ice dispenser began clogging and freezing, then water began leaking out the front of the unit. LG sent a repair subcontractor out who replaced the ice maker under the manufacturer's warranty. The repairman advised me to immediately purchase an extended warranty on this unit because (1# French door refrigerators in his opinion are notorious for having problems and #2# he considers LG products to be inferior to several other brands. I did purchase the extended warranty, and I am very glad I did. Now, 2 months after the manufacturer's warranty expired, I have a non-working refrigerator. A week ago, the motor began running loudly and constantly. I also noticed the temperature climbing in the refrigerator section #I had been keeping a thermometer in the unit). After a day of this, the temperature had climbed to about 58 degrees, and I called the warranty service. They told me the earliest repair appointment would be in a week. I am currently waiting for them to arrive today. The temperature kept climbing, and when the temperature hit 78 degrees, I unplugged the refrigerator and pitched about $270 worth of food. I expect the repair service to tell me it is the compressor. This will be my last LG product purchase.

My experience has been quite good. This was a purely indulgent purchase. We come from a generation when you never want to run out of food or miss an opportunity during store food specials. This LG ends those fears. It simply soaks up frozen and refigerated foods. We love the open cabinet space and various door and specialty spaces. I've placed calibrated thermometers in multiple locations in the frdge. It took almost 3 days for the temps to settle down, but now they are within a 4 degree range of the settings. (The LG does NOT show the temp, ONLY the settings. You must use your own thermometer.) The door space in my unit is only a couple of degrees higher, and only during periods of use. The drawers are usually colder than the open space of the fridge. My situation may be unique. The low noise level is especially welcome. We loved our previous Maytag, but this is another level of quiet. We wondered about the extra depth, but the approx. 2" are not an issue for us. Tighter kitchens may present a problem. I also called customer service with LG during the 1st 48 hours to understand why the fridge was taking so long to reach the settings. There is a language issue. The pleasant person on the phone struggled with anything other than the simplest presentation of facts, had no appreciation for humor, and was fairly quick to over-react to criticism. Her attachment to the script was frustrating. Most importantly, telling a customer that it's perfectly fine and normal for the temp setting to be 37 and the actual temp to be 42 is wrong. She did not understand that the "setting" is NOT the actual temperature. She then fussed around and helped me cycle through the demo/operational settings which may or may not have helped. The temperature did settle in another 24 hours nad has been perfect for weeks. Customer service needs some work.. I should also add that this purchase was originally made at another long-time national retailer who utterly failed to complete the delivery due to incompetence. Best Buy/Pacific handled sale and delivery with wonderful professionalism.

    Buy Something Else

We replaced a 16 year old perfectly operating GE Profile Door in Door with this model, since we finally found something with a door in door that was newer and supposedly better. We made a HUGE mistake. This LG has been problems since day one. LG phone support has been extremely rude and condescending in their attitude. The refrigerator has been making lots of noise to the point that the TV in the next room has to be turned up to hear it over the refrigerator. The first 2 visits from the LG support team resulted in them blamed the back grill on the bottom of the refrigerator and them trying to bend it so it doesn't come close to the compressor. The last young man was smart enough to force the compressor to keep running without the grill on the bottom and the unit started making the load hum, which is ever so annoying at night since you can hear it upstairs. So he called LG support to get some additional information about it possibly being the mount for the compressor. The gentleman on the phone yet again showed why I will never buy another LG product. He was downright rude in his comments and attitude, he even said “well the customer needs to understand refrigerators are not silent”. After expressing my displeasure, LG has decided to replace the compressor since the mounts cannot be replaced in the unit. It has now been 17 days since they decided to replace the compressor and LG is still trying to find a “certified” sealed system technician that is willing to replace it. Apparently since LG uses contractors instead of their own techs, everyone knows not to work on their products unless you want to be verbally abused and they are having a hard time finding a company willing to replace it. Take my advice, run fast and far from LG products. Buy something else, the hassle is NOT worth it.

    Broken after 3 years

We have had this fridge for three years now and have had 4 service calls. They are finials going to replace it for us. The capacity is great, we really enjoy the door in door as well. The water dispenser is a bit slow though. Also when you open the opposite door the water or ice completely stop. It also makes very little ice. Can support a family of three of your lucky. Or ice mechine broke 3 times. First time it completely stopped producing ice. The next two it was half capacity of its alrady low ice production. Then the freezer broke and all off our food had to be thrown away. If you google you will find a class action suit on both of our issues. Stay away from the LG models with low ice production !!! And certainly stay away from this junk model.

What is that other dude talking about? It's so quiet. He probably got a defective unit. The thing did not take days to get to a cold temp. It was cold almost quickly after set up (like 35 degrees). Yes I bought this and to prove this isn't a fake review, I bought this baby at Appliances Unlimited for 2000 (the display unit).
