After having trouble with accessing wifi on the lower level of my multi-story home, I was searching for a convenient, INEXPENSIVE way to get the service that I'm paying my cable company to receive. After doing research and then talking with a tech at Best Buy, I chose this LinkSys unit and hoped that what I had read online was not all hype. To my surprise, the unit connected easily and has given me full access to my wifi.

Most of the time it works great! Other times it doesn't work. I don't know what it is and why I have to keep disconnecting it and reconnecting it just to get it to work. It takes about a minute for it to reconnect but I have to do it at least once every other day or so. It's not as reliable as I thought it was. The longer I use it the more consistent the problem seems to be. Like I said when it works it's great but I fear as time goes on it's going to get worse.

      Hi, Alejandro,

The Linksys RE7000 is designed to extend the range of your wireless router up to 2,500 square feet in a perfect environment. Thus, we must always consider obstructions and frequency interference that may cause connection issues. Also, it is suggested to place the the extender in between the router and the area you wish to extend the wireless network, and make sure that it gets enough connection from the router. Try relocating the extender near your router and try to power cycle both units. Update us then if you observe the same concern so we can have you assisted by our Escalation Engineers at [email protected] with your contact info and the link of this review, for our reference.

I use this to create a network in my RV. Sometimes as a repeater. Sometimes as an access point connected to a high gain antenna/ repeater to pull in weak signals. It's easy to reconfigure as we travel around and connect to various wifi networks and witch between repeater and accesspoint modes.

    Weak signal caused dropped connection

When it worked, it was great. However, the signal would unexpectedly drop off and there would be no internet connection. That makes streaming video problematic because you lose parts of what you are watching. Setup is interesting. You are instructed to find the halfway point between your WiFi router and your device that you are using. Is the halfway point based on distance or signal strength due to obstructing walls. I tried it in various locations. The signal still got dropped unexpectedly on multiple devices. I did not try a line connection.

Quick fix for dead areas in our home.

We were having issues with getting internet on one side of our home. Noone could stay connected on their devices if they were on that side of our house. After spending a good deal of time talking to a customer service representative, we decided on this product. After following directions on where to plug this device in the house, we connected our devices to the extender. We are now able to receive internet service throughout the house. The reason for 4 star rating is that it does cut out once in awhile and can be slow at times.

      Hi Katy,

We appreciate the time you spent in sharing your experience with us. It is recommended to place the extender in an area where you are getting a strong wireless signal from the router. You can also set a fixed wireless channel on the router to avoid possible interference.

Let us know how it turns out at [email protected] with your contact details, location, title and the link to this post. Our Escalation Engineers are more than willing to help you out.

Booth this to boost my WiFi as my router is in the basement and XBox and home office on the second floor. It seems to be doing the job just fine. Adequate performance though more would always be nice.

I've had the Linksys RE7000 for about 3 weeks now, and so far, so good. I have it paired up to a new EA9500 router and connection couldn't have been simpler. No need to use the included CD with the packaging. Simply plug in the range extender into the power outlet and wait for the blinking green light to finish it's initial configuration process. When ready, press the WPS button on the side. The RE7000 will start to blink orange. Then, press the WPS button on the side of your router and once the orange light stops blinking, and turns solid green, the two will be connected to each other and you are good to go. You can then move the RE7000 to another part of the room/house/office and then go into your wifi settings on the device you wish to pair and select the same name as the router you ordinarily use, but this time look for the one with EXT on the end. This will be your extended range network. Once connected you should see notable improvements in your wifi signal strength and speed of upload/download. With a suggested range of 10,000 ft, I expected this product to work well in my 2,400 sq ft home. I've tried it in a few different outlets without a problem. Connection remains strong throughout my house. The only downside I could see might be the price point for some people, as it is definitely not the cheapest on the market, however, you are getting MU-MIMO connection, supporting both 2.4GHz and 5GHz extended networks, and a claimed 10,000 sq ft of coverage, so it is a powerful little beast! Overall I would recommend this product, especially if you have a MU-MIMO router (basically allows all connected devices to have an equal slice of the wifi signal) and the RE7000 now allows that great connectivity to extend further around your property, and even outside in your front or back yard!
