Been wanting the steel book edition for the longest since it's been sold out and I finally found a store that had one more. I love the cover artwork for the steel book and it's a perfect edition to starting off my 4K collection. Definitely recommend.

This is a good movie for kids and adults. It’s just a continuation of the movie Mary Poppins. There’s music and sing in this movie, too. It was fun to watch.

The Disney magic of cinematic legend is in fine shape in the new “Mary Poppins Returns,” even if the imagination of the fabled Disney Imagineers is a little rusty. The stars of the picture during publicity appearances have been going out of their ways to stress that the movie is not a remake of the fabled Academy Award-winning 1964 classic “Mary Poppins,” but a sequel. And that might very well be. But viewers who mistake the picture for a remake can be forgiven, because “Mary Poppins Returns” pushes its narrative through the self-same template of the original, right down to the placement of the musical numbers. Only the haunting and heartbreaking place occupied in the original picture by actress Jane Darwell and “Feed the Birds” is left vacant. In fact, about the biggest difference between “Mary Poppins” and “Mary Poppins Returns” is that this time around the magical nanny has three children in her charge instead of two. Set some thirty years after the events of the original picture, in “Mary Poppins Returns” Jane and Michael Banks are now adults who barely remember their childhood adventures with the nanny who literally drifted down from the clouds. Jane has taken after her suffragette mother and is now a political activist fighting for the rights of oppressed workers. And Michael, a recent widower unable to support his three young children as an artist, has recently taken a part-time job as a teller in the Fidelity Fiduciary Bank where his late father once toiled as a senior partner. Already disenfranchised by the death of their mother, Michael’s three adorable children are soon additionally troubled to learn that the bank is about to foreclose on their family home. Michael’s absentmindedly forgotten to make the three most recent payments to Fidelity Fiduciary after mortgaging the property to meet the family’s expenses. The family will be evicted if they’re unable to pay off the loan in full by Big Ben’s final toll of midnight, three days hence. To breathe some desperately-needed order into this chaotic situation, Mary Poppins returns, literally descending from the clouds to return the children’s kite during a stormy day. And with the help of her old chum Jack the Lamplighter, a former apprentice to the original film’s Bert the Chimney Sweep, the magical nanny endeavors to teach the Banks children the value of organized imagination...and remind the grown-up Michael and Jane of the love and wonder often left behind when children become adults. The biggest danger of producing a new movie founded upon the magic of a beloved motion picture classic is that the new movie will inevitably and automatically be compared with the original, a risk that Disney of all studios knows well. Since...well, since forever, the studio’s been occasionally pilfering their own vaults to wring new memories--and money--from old classics. Fortunately--thankfully--”Mary Poppins Returns” is strong enough and contains sufficient movie magic to not only withstand comparisons with the 1964 musical classic, but also to stand on its own feet. The viewer can’t help comparing the two pictures, but the filmmakers seem to expect the comparisons, if not welcome them...and even challenge them. And you know what? They win the challenge. There’s been some minor complaining about actress Emily Blunt’s characterization in the title role being...well, a little nasty, snotty with a capital B. Detractors suggest Blunt invests the beloved nanny with unnecessary amounts of sternness, conceit, arrogance, and a chilly exterior. Translation: Emily Blunt is not Julie Andrews. But that’s just the price the actress pays for her characterization being accurate to Travers’ storybooks. Julie Andrews could sing through a smile even when she was weeping tears of heartbreak, an attribute which worked well for the 1964 picture. But Blunt, who has a surprisingly strong singing voice and has been referred to by co-star Lin-Manuel Miranda as “human sunshine,” is primarily known, and lauded, as a dramatic actress. Occasional eye-rolling aside, Blunt brings all of her artistic qualities to bear in the picture, and more than holds her own in the choreography department also.

My favorite part was when Mary Poppins and Jack were singing about, “don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” To see the books come alive and then dancing through them. So cool!! Also, I loved when the "Bert" danced on the bank desk. Plus, when Mary Poppins, Jack, and the 3 children jumped into the broken China bowl and fixed the carriage to take a ride. And of course, when Mary Poppins draws them a bath and you see a real dolphin pop out. The music was wonderful!! I loved Emily Blunt’s delivery and she did everything “Mary Poppins perfect”! Jack’s singing was wonderful as well and then when the lamp-lighters danced and sang, it was just awesome. I loved how they added choreography with the bike tricks. Super cool. Everything was beautiful but what was best of all — is how Disney still brought in new magic BUT! held onto the old magic all at the same time. That is so hard to do! They could have done crazy things but they just held onto the original Mary Poppins magic and tricks all while putting a new spin on them. I just loved it!!! Excellent job Emily Blunt! Excellent job Disney! You all did not disappoint!

I purchased this movie for my kids to watch after having shown them the original. They thoroughly enjoyed it and it will make its way into the typical Disney movie rotation. The production value was great, as well as the casting. She did great in taking over where Julie Andrews left off. I'd say her interpretation of the character was much bolder, where Andrews' version was more sly/cheeky in how she influenced others or took command of a situation. Not a knock in the least, just a noticeable difference and I think more representative of the time period in which this movie is supposed to take place. The only "bad" thing I can say about it is that none of the songs were really that memorable. After watching the original, the songs sort of get stuck in your head, even the kids go around singing them for the next day or so. However, I honestly could not tell you how one song goes in this movie. However, that may just more subjective and the difference in having seen this as an adult vs seeing the original throughout childhood, and now adulthood with my own children. Still, a must watch for fans of the original.

Where do I start? The best line is in the song, Turning Turtle; "When you change the view from where you stood, the things you view will change for good." In our ebook, Our Magical World, Our Magical Selves: how I learned to let Life's coincidences teach me, published in 2017, my Co-Creator states, "I never wanted to change the world, but when you look at the world differently, the world changes anyway." Then in Mary Poppins Returns, Topsy says, "Mary Poppins is right. It is all in the way you look at things!" That is totally new age! Mary Poppins Returns reflects our story 20 different times! Now, that is Real Magic! From the song, NOWHERE TO GO, BUT UP, "When you see your reflection, your Heart will take flight." We see our reflection, Our Hearts have taken flight!

As time goes buy and as I get older. The original Mary Poppins takes on more meaning. The message that it sends is one everyone should follow. Now Disney has come up with a second part of the story. Now parents with children have a chance to revisit a story that teaches us and our children about honesty and fareness. That is something you don't see much anymore on the big screen. A chance to teach and do it with fun. When Mary Poppins came out in the sixtys I was a teenager. So it was not my cup of tea. Now being much older I see the value of the movie. Picture and sound was great. The songs as good as the original. A must see for family's of all ages. Will become a classic down the road in time. If you collect as I do a must for your collection.

If you enjoyed/appreciated the original as a kid or as an adult, I think you will appreciate this “Return of” MP. It is NOT a re-do, but a continuance, years later. Nobody truly can replace Dick VanDyck or Julie Andrews, BUT this modern continuance surpasses with modern camera work...made EVEN BETTER with 4K/hdr. If you can get past new actors and not having quite the very classic songs we all remember from our youth, this is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. And thanks Best Buy for the GREAT pricing on this 4K steelbook version.

Does this deserve 4 or 5 stars? It was a tough call so I rounded up. Of course you cannot compete with a beloved movie you've known your entire life (the original with Julie Andrews), and it takes a while to simply get used to the fact that this is a different movie with different actors and a different story line. But in the end it was an excellent sequel to the original and I think it did a fine job of honoring that spirit while also having its own unique style.

The story continued it was not a remake which made it interesting. The characters were well matched with their parts and they all played them very well. Mary was a strong character, Ms Emily Blunt was the perfect choice. She is Mary Poppins, as all the characters did well interacting with each other. I was anxious to see the chimney sweepers and at first was a little disappointed they were not going to preform as the original ones did. However, once they started to preform, I was impressed and count it as an equal performance to the original. Overall I'd have to say this Mary Poppins movie was so much better!

Being a sequel of a beloved classic, Mary Poppins, is a hard act to follow. Even so, the film was enjoyable and worth a watch if only to see a 93 year old Dick VanDyke, dancing. Acting, especially Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins and Dick VanDyke as Mr. Dawes, Jr., was excellent. The Jack character played by Lin-Manuel Miranda did not work as well as the Burt character in the original Mary Poppins. The supporting cast was almost perfect. The musical numbers staging and dancing was also excellent. My only disappointment was, I didn't leave the theater with a catchy tune in my head.

My wife and I took our four-year-old daughter to see this despite her having seemingly no interest in the trailers or TV spots that have been on heavy rotation-especially over the past week or so. Admittedly, this was partly for the reason both of us wanted to see this fifty-four-year-later sequel to Mary Poppins and didn't want to have to go through the hassle of finding a babysitter the weekend before Christmas, but it was mostly due to the fact that despite the lack of interest in the promotional materials that sometimes you just have to trust your parents know better than you and, lucky for us, our little four-year-old girl decided to indulge us on this particular matter (the slush and popcorn might have factored in, but I digress). The point being, that once director Rob Marshall's (Chicago, Into the Woods) Mary Poppins Returns began and Emily Blunt's incarnation of the practically perfect nanny showed up and began teaching the new generation of Banks children (as well as reminding their parents) that while imagination may not always be approved of, that it's more than necessary to make life fun and largely bearable, the little one was more than hooked by the magic of the titular character. And so, while Mary Poppins Returns is admittedly more of a re-hash or re-imagining of that first, 1964 film than I would have either thought or hoped it to be it is also a reminder of how powerful and delightful the imagination can truly be. Though my personal experience with the film may not be as heartening as those who take their teenagers to the theater and see their faces revert to a state of child-like wonder; to experience the kind of magic and possibilities Mary Poppins brings to the table and exerts with pure enthusiasm strike our daughter in such a clear and distinct way-especially during the numerous musical numbers-was quite something. The Julie Andrews picture was always one of those movies that was on whenever we needed it to be growing up and taking on the burden of crafting a follow-up to that respected classic (the only live-action film Disney saw garner a Best Picture nod in his day) garners a degree of respect built-in for even attempting as much and while Mary Poppins Returns could have certainly done a little more to stand on its own it is so excessively charming, appropriately cute, and full of original songs and creative executions that it's hard to argue the film is anything but perfectly pleasant in every way.

Mary Poppins returns is a magical movie that captures all the magic of the orginal and puts it's own spin on thngs. It looks great in 4k and my only quibble is I wish they would have had more of a nod to the original. I also wish that Emily Blunt would have tried to give a nod or been more like Julie Andrews then putting her own spin on the character. But it's a very enjoyable movie and well worth seeing. Worthy of the original one too. the package is great with 4k, blu ray and digital download and the movie looks and sounds great!

Now an adult with three children, bank teller Michael Banks learns that his house will be repossessed in five days unless he can pay back a loan. His only hope is to find a missing certificate that shows proof of valuable shares that his father left him years earlier. Just as all seems lost, Michael and his sister receive the surprise of a lifetime when Mary Poppins -- the beloved nanny from their childhood -- arrives to save the day and take the Banks family on a magical, fun-filled adventure.

So, should one pick this up? Well, the TECHNICAL aspects of the Blu ray are excellent. Sharp clear picture with eye-popping colors, especially when the animated segments take over and we leave drab London for a more magical perspective on life. The sound is amazing as well, the music and sound effects roll through the sound field with crisp fidelity. This felt like a "by the numbers" production and even though the specific story elements were not the same, the thematic purpose was. So if you've seen the original (and, c'mon, if you're seeing this you HAVE seen the original) than you'll know what happens before it happens. And yea, future prediction is kinda cool but is a double edged sword. You do risk reducing your enjoyment of this happy and nice picture - whose only goal is to entertain you - because you will know what happens BEFORE it happens. Every time. Because it feels like what would happen if 1960s Mary Poppins was made in the 2010s. Which is basically what happened. As a result, the emotional impact of the film has diluted highs and lows and THAT is a problem with all of these remakes. So is all lost? Is it a complete miss? Nope...and here's why. If you're a fan of the books or the movies, than this is more Mary Poppins done well and that can be better than being surprised. So bottom line? If you're a fan, than you'll love this movie.
