    Internet over your house wiring

Our home is not pre-wired for ethernet and our cable modem and wifi router are on the main floor of the home. My wife began working from home and set up shop is her she-shed, which is in the walk out basement. Her work equipment requires a wired connection, so wifi was not an option. I had heard of these devices to send the internet signal over electrical wires, but had no experience with them. We bought these Powerline Extenders as the solution. I read the included documentation which explained that one of the three LED's indicated a range of data speed, and that different circuits vary in speed capability. I am guessing that is because of the amount of electrical noise on the particular circuit. We tried the circuit in her she-shed first and the LED indicated that our 100 MBPS service was being transmitted at less than 20 MBPS. At that speed, her work equipment was unreliable. I moved the device to a circuit in an adjacent room and the LED indicated greater than 80 MBPS. Her equipment was then stable. So the devices work, but may not be the solution based upon data transmission requirements and electrical circuit compatibility.

Originally I intended to purchase a newer USB wifi adapter to see if that improved the performance issues i had with a pc on the far end of the house from the router. They were situated next to this product on the shelf, and I had been aware of this technology for several years now. The product tag indicated it was well reviewed, and it was only forty bucks more than the wifi adapter. Since the biggest issue with my connection was over saturation of networks in an urban environment (dozens seen when scanning to troubleshoot the connection issues, with no unused bands) I decided to give this product a try. Really, the only negative I can think to say about it is that it wants to be plugged directly into the wall outlet to avoid interference from surge protectors. As such, in a situation where wall outlets are scarce this may be hard to deploy. Setup consisted of plugging both adapters into the wall and waiting a few seconds after plugging the second one in before they indicated they could see each other. The included ethernet cables were super short so i used a couple of slightly longer ones i had lying around the house. Ping averages to the device on the far side of this connection average 2ms with 4ms being the worst I've seen. My house was built in the 80s and the wiring has been questionable in some things I've seen, so if you have a newer house it will likely be just as good as running cat 6.

Was not able to run network cable through house. Thought about the wifi extender option as it would be a cheaper route. This product was recommended to me by an employee who helped me out with finding a product meeting my need for gaming while i was not near my cable box. Awesome product and has served me well not only in gaming but also with my computer for solid connection as wifi does go down often.

This powerline converter was purchased because I was going to be going out of town and needed to get my brother situated in a new living situation quickly, where wifi was not an option. The product does what it claims to, however I feel it is pricier than other options on the market. Good if you need the instant availability of finding it in the store. Which we could have purchased the model with the inline power outlet for this price.

Know that no matter how good a wireline adapter you get is, its performance largely depends on how good your electrical wiring is. In a 50+ year old house with original wiring, you may find that none of these work and you need a different solution. In a brand new (since 2000) construction, even a cheap unit will perform excellently.

i hooked up the PL1000 to the router upstairs and then plugged the other end to the tv/home theater setup. I then plugged that into a GS308 -8 port Gigabit switch. From the switch I used short Cat6 or Cat7 cables to run to Cable-box / apple TV/ receiver/PS4 for hard-line. Works great.

I'm using this in my business to provide a wired connection to a credit card machine and receipt printer, so it's not exactly a high bandwidth need. I am usining one of the Ethernet ports from my wi-if router to provide internet access to the powerline adapter. The matching adapter is connected to a switch. The devices are, in turn, connected to the switch. I should point out that each power line adapter is plugged directly into a wall outlet, but the second plug on each outlet is used for a power strip, providing power to several devices.

It doesnt beet the speed of a direct plug in to router, but it solved my issue and work suprisingly smooth and efficient. Download speeds are a little slower that direct connect to router, but still very decent. The outlet you plug them into will play a factor as well. Overall very pleased with the performance for my particular situation.

These work great! Our home has a few spots where the wireless signal gets lost, so we use these extenders to make a "wired" connection. Before using the extender, we experienced buffering quite often in those spots. Once we began using the extender, the buffering has stopped and the connection is stronger than before! They are extremely quick and easy to install. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you have to have a dedicated wall outlet available at the router and at the destination.

Great easy to use kit for creating a physical network connection in another part of the house. It uses the copper electrical wiring to create the network connection using the HomePlug standard. Easy to setup and the indicator lights will tell you the overall quality of the connection on the electrical wiring. Basically plug it in, check the lights, move as needed.

This guy is actually pretty sweet. I’ve been using power line adapters for years, but the speeds are finally getting better. With my house layout, the microwave would knock out signal for half of the house. But using this for a wired connection to my TV, and another wireless version from Netgear, coverage is pretty much solid. Sure it isn’t fancy or a mesh network, but it definitely works and I never had to “power it off and on again “. (Maybe the modem, but that’s it.)

Was getting about 17 mbs in my living room from upstairs wifi down to my living room, now with this powerline i am getting 50 mbs downstairs so while a real big boost occurred and it works great now i still was expecting over 100mbs because my IP gives me 150mbs on ethernet hard wire. So great device I highly recommend because it is awesome, but just had higher expectations from the box specs and reviews.

Biught this product in a recommendation from geek squad and could not be happier. The VOIP phone in our home office sounds and functions the same as when it was tied into the our home network Ethernet. Much cheaper than running the new Ethernet line across the house
