Expand your wired Internet network with this NETGEAR Powerline 1000 PL1000-100PAS network extender, which features HomePlug AV2 to support Gigabit speeds for improved coverage. Push-and-Secure encrypts your network connections at the touch of a button.
Q: This increased my internet bill by75 dollars a month is that normal or did I configure it wrong?
A: There is no logical way for this device to increase your internet bill, it has absolutely no effect on your internet service. Its only purpose is to extend the network signal over the powerlines in your home. There reallsy isnt much of a configuration to it either. Its designed as a plug nplay device. At worst you would have to link the pair again. Hope that helps.
Q: Is it possible to use this product to bring a wifi signal to an area in the home with poor signal?
A: This is wired only but you can add a router to extend your network.
A: You are correct. The two adapters plug into the wall, one near your router and one wherever you want an Ethernet connection. This is not a wireless device. I have an older satilite receiver that has an Ethernet port, but is not WiFi enabled. This solution works perfectly, and for some heavy traffic (movies, streaming, etc). Security is a good question. You have the option to very easily set up a private secure network between the adapters. The adapters are connected in a secure network by pressing a security button on each adapter (and you can add more adapters later using the same process). I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS as the adapters come with a generic network security profile that all homeplug AV-certified adapters use. The instructions on how to do this are very clear and simple. While this setup appears to me to be secure, I am not a security expert. Please consult one if you have concerns.
Q: will this extend the wifi to another building 300 ft away?
A: No this only works on Outlets that are in the same building
Q: I have two already, but the signal in the bedroom is poor. Can I add a third one to resolve this?
A: Yes I have two laptops and my Dink Wi-Fi hooked up. When you plug in a third one the system should recognize it automatically. Anyhow it did with my third and fourth ones.
A: Probably not Infinite, but we have one box plugged into the router and three 'receiver' boxes working fine. One of the receivers also carries data to a secondary router to provide extra ports and wifi capability. Just means more traffic through your main unit and slightly reduced speed to the others.
A: If the TV has an Ethernet port you should be fine. If not, Netgear has another product(PLW1000) that will provide WiFi for such devices. Works the same--installs the same--does more--costs more.
A: That would be true. Seems to be a very solid Cat 5 connection
