30 years ago, I set down my SLR to pursue other interests. Recently, I learned that I would be sent to Europe for an extended stay and I thought it would be a good opportunity to pick-up a DSLR and re-acquaint myself with the world of photography beyond the smartphone. After quite a few hours looking a several different brands and models of cameras, I settled on the Nikon D3200, and I'm glad I did.
Nikon has long been a powerhouse in the camera world and the D3200 doesn't disappoint. In "auto" mode, it is as simple as point and shoot, and the results are fantastic. If you want to use some more advanced techniques, the D3200 can handle the challenge.
The kit lens is a good all-around lens, and can be used to take excellent photographs, but most people will want to add at least a telephoto lens of some type and possibly a lens for micro photography. One small complaint that I have with the kit lens is that it doesn't have the bayonet mount common on most Nikkor lenses.
The Vibration Reduction feature is top-notch and enables the user to take photos with long exposures without a tripod.
I have two main complaints with this camera; first, the battery compartment door seems cheap and flimsy. Even though this camera is at the entry-level price point for DSLR's; the user should get a product with better quality components than the battery compartment door on this camera. Second, I am surprised that the user cannot manually set the white balance by shooting a photo of a white piece of paper or via some other method. That said, the camera does have several preset white balance options to choose from in its menu.
My criticisms are minor over-all and I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for a good DSLR that takes great pictures. I have had mine for over a month and I have taken well over 1000 pictures with. Buy it, you won't be sorry.

I bought the camera for photo shoots with cars. Excellent features and very easy use. Auto feature does almost everything you need and has great picture quality. Battery life is excellent and plenty of room for large photos on a 16gb card.

I've barely scratched the surface of the capabilities of this camera. I got the memory upgrade with the bundle which supports over 1,000 pictures between uploads in the maximum pixel raw mode. To me this seems very generous. I've mostly used the camera in full auto mode because it seems to take really clear pictures very quickly that way. The default timeouts for going dormant were too short for me, but you can increase them on the menu. I have never gotten used to a single button half pushed for focus and preview, fully pushed to shoot, but I think that is the common method used. I do which they had included a retainer strap for the lens cap. I like to cover the lens most of the time I'm not actually taking a picture and it is a drag having to put the lens cap in my pocket. I'm sure that is easily fixed; possibly my lens cap with a retainer strap from my old FE2 will fit.
I am skeptical I'll ever need more pixels than this camera provides. I probably will want to get a telephoto lens to go with the 18-55 lens that came with it.

I have been shooting Nikon for over thirty years. This camera, with its compact size and full system versatility, is an excellent model. My wife sets it in Auto-mode and fires away with fantastic results. I have added to my Nikon 'arsenal' and found it compatible with most of my Nikon systems accessories, including lenses and strobes. Point and shoot ease with full creative control. I immediately went out and added the 80-200 zoom lens.

Great camera. I was able to use right away with auto features, but am taking a class to learn to use the rest of what the camera has to offer. The pictures turn out great! I'm excited to continue to learn about my camera and experiment with photography beyond the simple point and click

This camera was a first for me in many ways; my first DSLR, my first exploration into nice camera's/real photography in general, and my first expensive camera. Its great right out of the box and, even with my limited knowledge on the subject, I can take some really amazing pictures! the quality on the display and the picture quality on my tv are amazing. I was worried about dropping so much money on a camera and getting in over my head/not liking it but just the opposite has happened. I love the camera and just playing with it i have learn a lot!

I loved photography when I was in high school but life got in the way of my hobbies. Kids are grown now so I decided I would have some fun. I love the camera it is a challenge for me to learn new electronics but I have been doing good so far. I have taken some great photos and the camera pretty much works on its own when your in Auto Mode. So just pic it up and shoot away I'm having fun with mine

Fancy camera at a great price and easy to use. The graphics on the screen make you feel like you are using you pc. Instructions are easy to follow. Compact yet high quality lens. The different programs for different picture modes are great. It was highly recommended by many camera enthusiasts. Great thing is that you can expand with additional lenses in the future. Having a high quality movie option is also great since it avoids taking both, camera and movie camera on trips.

This is a great camera especially for a beginner like me. Easy to use, reading the manual was very easy, nothing too complicated!! It's the perfect camera for me to use with my two small children(1&3) who move quickly so this allows me to get good shots of them quickly :)

I've used SLRs for years but this is a whole new gig. Not used to all the settings and buttons but I'm working on it. Appears to have a lot more capabilities than a film SLR , saves on the cost of film and allows manipulation of the pictures via computer versus hours in the dark room. I do miss the dark room.
