I hadn’t heard of this brand at all when I picked up this mouse, but now that I’ve been using it for a few days I’m very glad it is the one I chose. While this device is plug and play, you definitely need to follow through the steps of installing the companion app. Once you do you will be presented with a dizzying array of configurable options from 16 million colors of LED lighting to nuances on how the mouse senses where it is moving. Some of these things i actually had to look up just to see what they meant, but i know that for someone who is an active gamer where precision and speed absolutely matter this will be a great choice. The size and weight are perfect for me, both fitting my palm comfortably and being easy to move around during long stretches of work. Overall I would highly recommend this device to someone looking for an alternative to some of the other big names in gaming peripherals.

The Kain 120 is a very good gaming mouse. It fits easily and comfortably in my large hand. All the buttons are easy to reach, and it has a nice textured plastic coating that makes the mouse have the perfect amount of grip. The large mouse feet allow it to slide effortlessly across just about any surface. Where a lot of mice manufactures fall short in my opinion is with their software support. This is where ROCCAT loses a star. The software is a bit overwhelming at first, and there is a bit of a learning curve, but that's because the software has many options to tweak. I really like the DPI calibration feature. The best part of the software is that you are able to make profiles that will activate upon the application or game launching. Sadly, you're only allowed to have 5 profiles active at once, and making profiles is confusing at first. There is also a very limiting factor that makes the auto profile switch almost useless. You are unable to set mouse acceleration on or off per profile, so you still have to open the software and enable or disable it manually. Personally, I have acceleration/precision on while using desktop, and off while gaming. Emails with support suggests they are aware of this, but have no inclination to change it. Overall, I really like the look and feel of the mouse, and it performs exceptional well. If they tweaked the software, this mouse would be an easy 5*.

Great mouse, but not for MMORPG's

As the title says, it's a great mouse. Very responsive, extremely precise, and a wonderful positive "click" from the buttons. However, for a gaming mouse, there aren't enough buttons. Coming from a Steelseries mouse that's on it's last legs, this one feels....Lacking. Only 4 buttons (5 if you count the scroll wheel) just does't scream "Gaming" to me. If it weren't so good in other areas, I'd have rated it a 3.5-4. It's comfortable in the hand for long gaming sessions. If you only need 4 or less buttons, you can't go wrong with this. As my main gaming area is MMORPG's and MOBA's I'll stick to something with a few more buttons. It worked well for Overwatch. If precision is what you are looking for, then this is definitely the mouse to get.

My last Gaming Mouse had multiple extra programable buttons and magnetically attached removable finger rests and wings. It was a great Gaming Mouse but it looked like a Batmobile. I had to hide it in my desk and take out a “Normal” mouse if potential clients were visiting my home office and I wanted to project a more “mature” vibe. The Roccat KAIN 120 wired gaming mouse is every bit as capable as my old mouse, but it doesn’t scream for attention. Features: - HIGH PRECISION: The Roccat Kain 120’s optical tracking system scans the surface below the mouse with a resolution of 16000 DPI. That’s 16K Dots (or Data points) Per Inch. When you’re trying aim at a tiny distant target in a game the tiniest movement of the mouse smoothly tracks that point. - HIGH SPEED: The Roccat Kain 120 can maintain that precision at any speed between 0 and 400 IPS (Inches Per Second). That’s 23 MPH in any direction. It’s built to handle 50 G of acceleration during directional changes. - LIGHT WEIGHT & LOW FRICTION: To help the player reach those high-speed directional changes, the Roccat Kain 120 is very lightweight at 3.13 oz. (89 g) thanks to its light weight frame and materials. Its extra-long 70.8 inch (1.8 m) flexible braided USB cable doesn’t restrict movement. - ERGONOMIC SHAPE: A close look at the top of the Roccat Kain 120 shows that it slopes down to the right to follow the natural positions of the fingers. - PROGRAMABLE BUTTONS & LIGHTING: Complex games can be improved with programable extra buttons on the side of the mouse. However, these extra buttons can sometimes be accidentally pressed with unwanted results during non-gaming programs. Roccat provides a link to downloadable App called Swarm which among many things allows these extra buttons to be temporarily de-activated. The dazzling color changing LEDs on the mouse can be tuned high, low or totally off. PROS: - Light and comfortable. - High resolution and speed. - Swarm software App allows high customability of features and hardware. - Rubberized hi-grip surface. CONS - Side buttons feel too sensitive and easy to depress which results in accidental activation. - Because of the top surface’s slant to the right the Roccat Kain 120 is definitely for right handed use only. Conclusion: An excellent choice for serious gaming as well as regular use.

Had for about a month and a half and the scroll wheel messed up, No water damage, nothing. No reason for it to stop working, before it messed up worked well tho. Tried to contact ROCCAT for replacement and they want me to cut the cable and send a pic before i can get a new mouse. Shipping would take 2 weeks for a new one, company doesnt care if im mouseless. Dont recommend this company to anyone.

As a long time user of a track ball, I was pleasantly surprised by how well this fit in my hand. The ergonomics are as good as advertised. And that usually is all you need for longer periods of use. But I could feel it slipping out of my grip after prolonged use to to sweaty palms. If I'm just working on Revit, CAD or general computing, it's easy to adjust. But mid shot on an FPS? There is no room for that correction. And that's where I lost interest. And that's where this review went to 4-stars. It's a deal breaker to me but for those without that same issue, this may be a 5-star mouse for you at this price point. The RGB is a nice touch if you appreciate that aesthetic. Personally, my computer is all black, inside and out with no RBG on at all. And it turns out that's how I like my input devices to be as well. But, I can't knock those who prefer these things and I can't bring myself to lower or raise the rating based on it either. Solid mouse, but just not for me. I'd still recommend it to someone without sweaty palms and can effectively use a mouse with more than just a left/right click capabilities.

I've replaced my old Logitech G4 series mouse with this one. I don't know if it's simply due to age, but this mouse feels much more responsive than I recall the G4 ever being. I think in part it's due to it being lighter, but could also be due to all of the options you get in regard to customization via their Swarm software. In fact there's so many options with Swarm, I'm not even sure what all of it means, but if you don't install it I think you're doing yourself a disservice. I did go through the calibration options, and of course made some lighting tweaks. I will say that I feel like I'm missing something in regard to this lighting trend. I understand it looks 'cool' but when you're using the mouse you really can't see any of the lights. That being said, if you have other ROCCAT that are supported, you could do some exceptionally impressive things with the lights. I loaded up a couple of FPS's and it did feel easier to quickly aim with this mouse. The main buttons are large and have a satisfying click. The one thing I have been doing with this mouse is errant clicks with my thumb. The rear most thumb button is large and easy to get to, maybe too easy. The other reason I couldn't give this mouse is that there isn't a place for your thumb to rest - there's no cavity for it. Again, this could be another cause of my errant click issues.

Lightweight, comfortable to use and glides along on my mouse pad. 1600 Dots Per Inch resolution (adjustable on the fly) at any speed you can move your hand at. Wired so no lag and has a nice braided cable. Buttons work smoothly and are programmable with the Swarm App. (for games or programs) Lighting is also adjustable on App, including colors, intensity and turning them off. Things of note: • The Swarm App requires Netframe work and MS C++ to operate if you don’t have them it will download and install them. • The scroll wheel does only that (they missed an opportunity for side to side action) The scroll wheel is textured and is a ratcheting action – if you press down too hard while scrolling it will give you touch irritation, so don’t. • Designed only for right-hand users. Has a good ergonomic shape and nice feel in the hand. • Works well for large or small hands. A good programmable hard-wired mouse that is worth your consideration.

The Roccat Kain 120 AIMO mouse fits your hand whether it be large or small. The overall sleekness and shape of the mouse help with pointer precision and it has good click sensitivity.Roccat has a program called Swarm which you can download and use to give you more control over how the mouse operates. Using Swarm, you can configure how the lights in the mouse operate as well as the DPI (sensitivity of movement) of the mouse. One feature that I've not seen before is the Accidental Click System. This is a setting that helps the mouse determine when you may have accidentally clicked. Over all it's a great mouse and I recommend it to those that are into gaming.

I have been using this mouse for a few weeks and so far I am very happy with it when comparing to my other gaming mice from Logitech. It feels good in my hand which is not small and is comfortable for long sessions of use. The ability to change the DPI settings with the press of a button on top is also nice to make on the fly changes when needed in either a game or depending on which app I may be using. The software is pretty intuitive and allows for multiple different ways to customize the mouse and the color of the LED's or pattern of the LED's. You can also create multiple custom profiles to be saved to the mouse to allow for very quick changing to various custom settings within the profiles. Overall I have been very happy with this mouse when comparing to the other gaming mice I have owned and used over the years.

This mouse fits in nicely with my Alienware Desktop computer. The ability to customize the LED lights to either patterns or solid colors is fun. The mouse is responsive, feels good in the hands, and the extra thick cord gives me comfort that when I send it flying off the desk after I get eliminated in Fortnite that it won't tear. Just remember to install the driver that comes with the mouse when you connect it otherwise none of the lights do anything fun.

This mouse would be a great mouse for any user. It's comfortable in the hand, fitting at just right angle, and it's a good size. The buttons are very responsive, and the response on the computer are so quick. It's easy to grip the mouse, even for long periods, without discomfort. It has the usual left and right click buttons, a scrolling button with a couple of options, and three more buttons- one on top behind the others, and two on the side. A simple click with your thumb on one of these, and the preset options are to go forward and back in the browser. These buttons can be programmed to do other functions, as the user prefers. The feel of all of the buttons, and the mouse in general, is very comfortable and easy to use. It's sensitive enough without inaccuracies. And it has a sturdy feel in your hand, like it will hold up to a lot of use. The lighting is amazing. The Roccat symbol and scroll light up in changing colors. It's AIMO, a next level technology that goes beyond the usual options for mice, in what Roccat refers to as 'living light'. Users can program this for different levels of brightness, as well as changing to other patterns. The included start up guide gives you the website, and that's where you can download Swarm, the companion software for Roccat devices. This is where you can find all sorts of options for the mouse. Users can adjust the lighting, set up multiple profiles, record macros for specific games or software, change the function of the buttons, and more. To me, it was the right amount of buttons, and I like the size and positioning of the side buttons. This corded mouse responds so quickly that it gives you the advantage in games, especially where the speed of the mouse can make such a difference in beating your opponents- that fraction of a second matters and the designers of this mouse know the importance and have succeeded beyond expectations with this mouse. You won't be disappointed with this one. I couldn't find anything I didn't like. For gameplay, I need to know the mouse isn't going to let me down, and this one performed beautifully in keeping up with actions in the game.

I enjoyed testing this Roccat KAIN 120 out and plan to make it a daily driver on one of my main PC’s. The mouse delivers a high-end gaming mouse feel at a reasonable price point. Out of the box, my first impression was that the mouse felt cheaply made. I was wrong on my face. The mouse if super light and very surprisingly well built. The mouse is kind of a marvel in this aspect because until you use it you will not be able to appreciate how solid and strong it is actually put together, like a Jet. Some manufacturers will provide a gram weight to make the unit feel heavier; I am glad Roccat didn't! This mouse will fit any gamer / computer enthusiasts’ type from the new to the seasoned. On my Windows 10 OS it was plug and play (it is not wireless). I did have to jump through some hops to download the Tweaking software, but it wasn't that hard (I don’t think the uneducated in the ways of computers could have done it though). Nevertheless, the software suite provides a TON of adjustments to cater to each mode / profile you choose to use it as. I have three main profiles with different specs that I am able to quickly jump between during my gaming session. I did lower the brightness and color pattern because this little thing will glow brightly next to the keyboard. The response time feels on par for the end of the gaming mouse spectrum it should reside within and I was not disappointed. The only upgrade I would have personally like to have seen in this 120, is taller more ergonomic feel. Aside from that it is a Win for sure and I highly recommend.

I've used lots of mice and trackballs, both for gaming and less-fun activities. This mouse is well-made, plenty of buttons and a great scrolling wheel. The Swarm mouse software (that you download from the ROCCAT website) allows you to customize what each button does, how sensitive various settings are, load game profiles and even customize the color displayed on the mouse's logo and scroll wheel. I played some games with it, both casual and some first-person shooters. The mouse was very responsive, though I find that the mouse itself is a little too smooth for my liking, made it hard to feel like I had a good grip on it. I like more of a matte or rubberized feel. The smoothness may go away with use. All in all a good product.
