Took a little understanding of how everything worked with formatting. The application Disk Utility is what you want to have open so you can see your HDD and anything else connected to your mac. Also might have to select View in the top left of Disk Utility and click “show all”. Sometimes they wont show up on the screen if they’ve been pre-formatted with different settings from the supplier. In order to get best of both worlds from this desktop external drive I partioned one half of for time machine backups and the other for normal drag and drop storage of pics, videos and whatever else. In order to do this click the external drive and then click partition on the top of the application window. Set how much you want to partition and rename it and set formats. Important part is making sure the time machine half is formatted “Mac OS Extended” and the storage part is using “APFS”. Long story short i had a old 1tb mobile seagate drive that somehow already allowed me to time machine backup and drag and drop so I just reversed engineered the 8tb desktob one to be just like it! No more switching and unplugging! Hope this helps!

I purchased this hard drive intending on using it for video game storage, it definitely holds the files but accessing the game causes it to lag or be slow because the power and data output of the hard drive seems to only be able to handle media not necessarily running a game right out of it, but other than that I have zero problems with it, very easy to install kind of does it itself when you plug it in and connects itself to your computer automatically configuring to your specific computer that is unless if for some reason your computer is from the 1700’s should be fine, stores tons from media like pictures and videos to video games running straight from the external hard drive! I’ve ran battlefield 2042 through this device and it ran just fine, although I wouldn’t recommend long term usage for video games, it’s better for storage or lower end games but hey, it will work in a pinch! Need it for games? Get it, it will work. Slowish but still. Data transfer is pretty quick when it comes to files, video games take longer just for the nature of their software obviously but all in all I would definitely purchase this again. Price is always a teeth clencher but it pays for itself in my opinion. So get it!

Works great as a way to store most of my games that I play, the only issue I had, which isn't on the product itself, was transferring all my games, I couldn't just copy paste, I ended up having to reinstall everything on this new hard drive which was a bit of a bummer, but once everything was reinstalled it all worked great, theres just a couple games, mostly VR games, that didn't want to run properly on the hard drive, so I had to reinstall them back on my main hard drive to play them

I am in the process of digitizing my movie collection, building a movie server for my home theatre. I have three of these now. They appear to be very reliable and sturdy as prior to building a rack for them, I had bumped them over a few times and they keep on ticking. Recommended for sure.

The only gripe I have with this 8 TB hard drive is that it takes a little time to load on my PC. When I first plug it in I cannot open my files for about 10 to 15 seconds while it boots up. After some time it also shuts off or goes into sleep mode, which forces my PC to reconnect it when I start working again. As someone who edits in Premiere Pro it is not very comfortable to see my files go offline and then wait for the drive to start back up. It feels like too much of a risk to rely on it for active projects.
That being said, it is still a great product. I now use it strictly for storage by moving the contents of my last two hard drives into it. I will not be using it as my main working drive but as a long term storage solution it works well.

Good price, and value from Seagate.
Quick shipping as well.
Literally was plug-n-play as stated in the title. Plugged into USB port, hooked up power, and was immediately recognized by My PC
I will be using for Music storage as a whole. We do have some documents which We will move there as well.
If You want to use as a data recovery mechanism, Seagate has a nice online article on how to set up the data backup whether You have a Mac or PC. I mention that because I'm not a technical or computer savy person, so I take all the help I can get in this arena.
Taking everything into account I believe You would be happy with purchasing this product as well, and I would recommend.

I really enjoy this external hard drive.
I have no complaints thus far.
It’s fast. Seems reliable. It’s as this as a chapter book .
It’s compatible with my imac which was important and it saved all of my photos and videos super fast. I was able to play back on it too ! I hope this lasts forever !!

Big capacity, witch i want it. Fast transferring of the files. I couldn't do the warranty. The files provided by the product, DIDN'T LET ME DO THE WARRANTY.

To whom it may concern.
I purchased a Western Digital 8 TB. Hard drive from me all. Brought it back to my home, plugged it in and it didn't work right out of the box brand new never had one do that. Brought it back to Best Buy and asked for a exchange and had no problem with the exchange. I swapped it for a Seagate drive 8 TB. Did a little bit of paperwork and walked out the door very happy 8 hair by hard drives, doing exactly what it was supposed to do initially, but sea.
Gate. seems to be the boss now. In external hard drives. The cashier was very helpful. Polite and would definitely come back and purchase other items from the oil.. and I have recommended Best Buy to multiple other people over the years. Also, being a retired computer engineer.

This is a great HDD with a lot of space. I haven't had any issues with it. My WD external tend to overheat occasionally as I always get a warning with them. This one has remained in the zone with ample space.

This is exactly what I needed for my 4TB Mac mini for automatic backups. It was literally plug and play and was recognized by Time Machine without any issue. I have it all set and behind my set up so I do not even think about it. Backups happen in the background and it gives me piece of mind.

I needed a backup drive for photos and video from my camera. Works perfectly for that task, although I didn't realize that I'd quickly run out of space even for an 8TB drive. Overall, I'm very happy with it. Since it's a mechanical drive, it can be a little noisy at times.
