This was purchased in Nov for a Christmas gift. Christmas Day it was opened and there were no "sweeper arms". I attempted several times to use chat and call the customer service line to have the missing parts sent separately but was unable to stay in queue or on hold long enough. We had to order the missing sweeper arms from another online retailer and hope that they work as they should.

It's got some good features, but they're useless if the app doesn't work. The mapping is terrible; it doesn't save changes, you have to redo things a bunch, and it's always disconnecting, so you have to manually restart it to get it back online. The vacuuming is decent, but the mopping is pretty bad and not smart at all. I expected more from a brand like Shark.

      Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the Matrix didn’t meet your expectations. While the robot does self-empty into its bagless base after each cleaning mission, the mop pads and water tank still require manual attention for optimal performance.

Has the be the worst purchase I've ever made. This thing is so dumb I can't believe it's ever marketed as "smart" technology. It is like a blind child that needs watched constantly. It ramps objects instead of avoiding them. It refused to dock itself, instead doing 7, that's right, 7!, laps around the walls, scraping the baseboards and hitting every single, and I mean EVERY, wall. Even though it knew from mapping that the walls were there!! It mopped the floor once then proceeded to go around the edges of the walls 6 times. Why?? How does that make sense? This thing is a nightmare and I'm returning it.

Hello Jeremy, thank you for your review. We’re disappointed to hear about your experience with the Shark RV2402WS. You mentioned that the vacuum collides with objects instead of avoiding them, has difficulty docking, scrapes baseboards repeatedly, and makes unnecessary laps even after mapping. We understand how incredibly frustrating this must be. We’re also sorry to hear that it only mopped once and then circled the walls multiple times. This is not the experience we want for our customers, and we completely empathize with your situation. We’re eager to assist you further. Please contact our customer service team at 1-888-228-5531. We are available Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET. Your concerns have been noted, and we will take the appropriate steps to resolve this issue. I have had robot vacuums in the past, but never one that vacuums and mops. This is something I never knew I needed but I absolutely love it. This vacuum comes with the robot vacuum, docking station, a side brush, 2 mopping pads and a 12 ounce bottle of multi floor cleaning solution for washing floors. Setting up this vacuum is very easy. You will need to make sure you have enough room on the sides and front of the docking station wherever you decide to keep it. Once you have this in a spot you like, you will need to download the SharkClean app. Then you just follow the directions for linking it to your WiFi and then have the robot map out each room in your house. The app is extremely useful in letting you set up where you want just to vacuum and also where you would like it to vacuum and wash the floors. I even set up a schedule when and where Rosie (the name I gave her) will do everything. She needs a name if you hook her up to Alexa. The app also lets you know how much of a charge is left on the robot, if you want to clean just a specific room and a few other things. I have two set schedules, one for just vacuuming carpeted rooms and one for vacuuming and mopping the hardwood and tiled floors. This is because the robot automatically senses when you have the mop attachment on the robot. I usually have Rosie vacuum certain rooms one day, and the next day I will hook up the mop attachment and have it vacuum and mop the other rooms. The suction on this robot is very good compared to another vacuum robot I had. I do have to clean the roller about every other time it vacuums to remove hair that accumulates on the roller, but I have to do that with any vacuum I have owned. I appreciate that the docking station is bagless, unlike the other robot vacuums I have had. When you need to empty the dust bin, you just have to remove it from the docking station and empty it into the garbage. Every now and then I will wash and dry it out so nothing gets stuck inside. There is no added cost for bags like other robot vacuums. So this is a real money saver!! I highly recommend this robot vacuum, for its versatility and ease of use.

So I just moved into a new place and put in brand-new floors, which means I’m now the kind of person who flinches when anyone walks inside with their shoes still on. I bought the **Shark Matrix 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop with the Self-Emptying Base** to keep the floors looking sharp, and honestly, it’s like having a tiny cleaning employee who never calls in sick and works for electricity instead of a paycheck. **The vacuuming power is serious.** It sucks up every bit of dust, crumbs, and random debris like it’s personally offended they exist. Watching it clean is weirdly satisfying. And when it drives itself back to the base and empties on its own? Beautiful. The fact that it holds up to 30 days of dirt means I don’t have to babysit it. **The mopping feature**, on the other hand, is doing its best. It’s great for everyday shine and maintenance, but if something sticky ends up on the floor, you’re still grabbing a real mop. It’s like a friend who offers to help you move but won’t lift anything heavier than a throw pillow. The mapping is impressive, too — it learns the house fast, avoids furniture instead of slamming into it, and the app lets you control everything, from which rooms to clean to where it’s not allowed to go. **Noise level:** pretty normal while it’s cleaning, but when it empties into the base, it kicks up into mini-jet-engine mode for a few seconds. Not terrible, but it will make you look up like, *What was that?* **One thing I don’t love is the battery life.** I have about 700 square feet of space, and the vacuum usually can’t quite finish the whole job on a single charge. It has to go back to the dock, recharge, and then continue. Not the end of the world, but I wish the battery lasted longer since the space really isn’t that huge. --- ### **Pros** * Strong suction — floors look spotless when it’s done * Self-emptying system is a huge time-saver * Smart mapping and easy app control * Great for keeping new floors looking clean daily * Saves me real time so I can pretend to be productive ### **Cons** * Mopping is more light cleanup than deep scrubbing * Self-emptying noise can surprise you the first time * Struggles to finish about 700 sq ft on one charge * A bit pricey, but the convenience is worth it --- ### **Bottom Line** If you want something that **keeps your floors looking clean without you lifting a finger**, this is worth it. The vacuuming power is fantastic, the self-emptying base is a game-changer, and it’s super convenient. I just wish the battery lasted long enough to clean the whole space in one run. Still — if this little robot ever quits, I’m probably hiring a full-time butler.

My 4th Robot Vacuum - This is the Best Yet!

We both work full time, our pets are home all day, and honestly, cleaning floors was never keeping up. No matter how often we vacuumed, there was always pet hair on the rugs and muddy paw prints by the door. We finally decided to try a robot vacuum and went with the Shark Matrix 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop with the self-emptying base. After a few weeks, we are officially wondering why we waited so long. Setup was surprisingly easy, even on a busy weeknight. We plugged in the base, downloaded the SharkClean app, and let the robot map the house using LiDAR. The map was accurate right away, and we could name rooms, block off pet food areas, and tell it where the carpets are so the mop stays on hard floors. Once that was done, it pretty much took over. The biggest reason we bought this was pet hair, and it delivers. Our pets shed nonstop, and hair used to collect under furniture and along baseboards. The Shark Matrix cleans in neat rows instead of bouncing around randomly, which actually makes a difference. It picks up fur instead of spreading it around, and the brush roll does not constantly clog with hair. Even after a full day of pets lounging and shedding, the floors look clean when we get home. Then there are the muddy paws. Rainy days used to mean wiping paws and still finding prints everywhere. The mopping feature has been a game changer. It vacuums and mops at the same time, and the gentle scrubbing motion is perfect for fresh paw prints and everyday dirt. Floors look clean without being soaked, which is great for busy homes. The self-emptying base is honestly our favorite part. After each vacuum run, the robot empties itself into the base automatically. We only have to empty the base about once a month, even with pets. No bags to buy, no daily dust bin dumping, and no clouds of fur flying into the air. We run it on a schedule while we are at work, and it just does its thing. It recharges on its own and finishes the job without us babysitting it. It is also quieter than we expected, and our pets got used to it quickly. Maintenance has been simple. Mop pads are easy to wash, filters rinse clean, and the app lets us know when anything needs attention. It never feels like more work. The best part is coming home to clean floors without having spent any time cleaning them ourselves. Instead of vacuuming after work or mopping on weekends, we actually get to relax and enjoy time with our pets. If you are a busy, pet-loving household thinking about a robot vacuum for your family, the Shark Matrix 2-in-1 is absolutely worth it. It keeps pet hair under control, handles muddy paws, and takes one big chore off your plate. For us, it has been one of the smartest home purchases we have made. Worth every penny.

Combo Vacuum and Mop Does Well

The Shark Matrix 2-in-1 is a robot vacuum that also mops, positioned as a relatively hands off solution for maintaining floors without needing to juggle multiple devices. In the box you get the robot itself, a charging base that the vacuum self empties into a bagless collection bin (yay), a reusable mop pad, and the usual assortment of cables and documentation. Visually, it looks like most modern robot vacuums. Low profile, circular, matte plastic, and designed to disappear under furniture. Nothing about it screams premium, but it also does not look cheap or out of place sitting against a wall. Setup is straightforward. You plug in the base, place the robot on it, and go through the SharkClean app to get it onto your wifi network. The app walks you through mapping the house, which involves the robot doing an initial exploratory run. This is where the Matrix branding comes in. Instead of the more random wandering behavior of older robots, it moves in a grid like pattern and builds a reasonably accurate map of your space. You can label rooms, set no go zones, and choose whether a run should vacuum, mop, or do both. The app is functional and clear, though not especially fast. It does the job without getting in the way, which is really all you want here. In daily use, vacuuming performance is good. It handles dust, crumbs, and pet hair without issue on hard floors and does a respectable job on low to medium pile carpets. It is not going to replace a full size upright for deep cleaning, but for routine maintenance it keeps things looking consistently clean. The brushroll does a decent job resisting hair wrap, though it still benefits from occasional manual cleaning if you have pets or long hair in the household. The mopping feature is best thought of as maintenance rather than deep cleaning. The sonic mopping action does help loosen light dried on grime, but this is not something that will remove old sticky spills or heavy stains. What it does well is keep hard floors from getting that dull, dusty film that builds up over time. Running it a few times a week makes the space feel cleaner overall, even if you still need to break out a real mop once in a while. The robot automatically avoids carpets when mopping, which works reliably as long as your rugs are not extremely thin or oddly shaped. Navigation has been mostly solid. Once the map is established, it cleans methodically and does not miss large areas. It occasionally gets confused by chair legs or cluttered spaces, but recovery is usually quick. If you have a very busy floor plan with lots of cables or lightweight objects, you will still want to do a quick pass to tidy up before a run. Noise levels are reasonable. You will know it is running, but it is quiet enough to hold a conversation or watch TV in the same room. Maintenance is minimal with the self emptying base. Emptying the onboard bin is infrequent, and rinsing the mop pad takes only a minute. Battery life is sufficient to handle medium to large spaces, and the robot will return to the base and resume if it runs out mid clean. Note, while you have a single robot that can vacuum and mop, you do need to manually swap the dustbin for the mop modules. The mop also doesn’t empty itself, you will need to do that. Overall, the Shark Matrix 2-in-1 fits well into a routine where you want floors to stay consistently clean with minimal effort. It vacuums well, mops well enough, and navigates predictably. It is not perfect, and it does not eliminate the need for occasional manual cleaning, but it significantly reduces how often you need to think about floors at all. For a mixed home with both hard floors and carpets, it strikes a good balance between capability, convenience, and cost.

Unboxing was pretty simple. Removed the vacuum, mop pad and dock. There was also some packing tape but not that much. Setup time was about 20 min. Once together I downloaded the Shark Clean app. I set up an account and with the instructions provided it was easy to pair the vacuum to the app. The first step was to name it. There were suggestions like “Clean Latifah”. First step was to map the home. This took about 2 hours. Then after the map was complete. I labeled the rooms, and it prompted me to add Alexa skills, but I skipped that since I do not use Alexa. Next step it prompted me to add the mop pad and fill the reservoir with water. Then run the mop cycle. During this setup it did prompt me to mark areas to skip like for rugs or other areas I did not want it to run. This ran for a few hours while I was at work. When I returned it said it was out of water. When I added more the cycle was complete, so I started it again. After a few days of that I finally sent it on missions to different rooms. The rooms looked clean after. The mop pad did have some dirt on it so I know it was working. I just wish that when it needed water it allowed you to finish the cycle. Then I switched it to Vacuum, and it took 6 hours while I was at work and vacuumed the whole home. There is a container in the dock you can remove to dump the debris in the garbage which is nice. Also, there is a filter that is removing I am assuming allergens. The map after a cycle shows where it is cleaned like a heat map which is useful. I like the Shark vacuum/mop function, but I wish that there was less manual intervention for this price point since it is less functional to run while at work if I need to be home to change parts and fill water. They also included an additional mop pad which is nice so I can wash the current one while still cleaning with the other. I did not find it getting stuck anywhere and the consistency of cleaning was good. The app is user friendly, and you can set schedules as needed. Also, it is nice that you can place it somewhere and run a spot clean to clean just an area of the home vs the entire room. I would recommend this if someone wanted mostly vacuuming and the occasional mop or just mopping a room.

The Shark Matrix 2 in 1 is another great product from the Shark family. Unboxing and set-up was very simple and straight-forward - download the app, name your vacuum, and let it charge. After the initial charge it will run approximately 60 minutes which was plenty of time for my amount of space (about 1000 sq feet). The initial "mapping" was incredibly fast and I was surprised at how quickly it finished. The phone app shows the areas that were cleaned and it was accurate. After the initial mapping, the Shark recharged and was ready to go. Although it is described as a mop and vacuum product, you have to set up separate map zones for each type of cleaning. In order to mop, you have to install the mopping pad and cleaning solution. When complete you then remove the mopping pad to vacuum. While certainly not a deal breaker, there are other products that will do both at the same time (although they are much more expensive). I only have a small area that needs to be mopped so not a big deal for me. The Shark Matrix did a great job on my first vacuum session. It was very thorough and you could tell by the lines in the carpet that it had covered all areas. The IQ Navigation and Matrix Grid feature ensures that it covers all areas and the powerful Shark suction gets them all clean. One of the greatest features is the ability to use it over and over (up to 30 days) without having to empty the base. It has a decent size dust bin that's easy to remove/empty/replace. There's also a filter in the base that's easy to clean. Being able to tell Alexa to run the machine is also a neat feature - you don't even have to pick up your phone to clean the house! Thumbs up to Shark for another great product!

The Shark Matrix 2-in-1 Robot vacuum & mop is an improvement from previous shark robot vacuums. This whole house claening machine can vacuum and mop your home to keep it nice and tidy. It was easy to "assemble" by just taking a few pieces out of the box, unwrapping the protctive plastic from it and then putting the bin, base playe and sweeper arm on it. Then it was time to download the app, name your machine (if you want), and let it map out your house. Once it maps your house, you name the rooms and can set up zones. Then it is time to start vacumming. You can choose from Eco, Normal, or Mac suction. It gives you a time estimate of how long it will tke to vacuum the area. Clean Latifah as I call her takes 45 minutes to vacuum my 2200 sq ft home. I hsve two golden retrivers - so it gets full of dog hair pretty quickly. I do like to clean the wheels every couple of days to make sure there are no big knots of dog hair junking it up. To use the mop function, you just slip a plate to the bottom of the vacuum that has the mop pad on the bottom of it. It is velcroed on and easy to take off and throw in the wash. It comes with two mop pads. The mopping seems to be a little more powerful than another robot vaccuum I had. It says it scrubs floors 100x per minute nd you can initiate a Mstric Mop for stains or to target dirty areas. It says it holds 30 days worth of dirt and debris. I haven't had it long enough to comment on that - but I do wonder if I will have to mpty it sooner than thst to avoid smells. I had that issue with another vacuum. I have had this for almost a week and it has been clenaing daily. It's so nice to not have to vaccuum 20x per day to pick up all the pat hair my two leave behind!

This is my second Shark Robot vacuum, the Shark Matrix 2 in 1 is an upgrade over my Navigator series. First, worth explaining the Matrix name of this model, it's in reference to the way it cleans in a check pattern, not some nod to a movie. Setup is easy and it pairs with the Shark Clean app, you can have multiple Shark Robots in your home. What makes this 2 in 1 cool is it has 2 cleaning mods, a wet mop mode and a dry mode. I was most excited to try the wet mode, especially to really clean the kitchen tiles. Setting up for mop mode involves putting on the mop pad and filling the Shark Matrix with a mix of water and cleaning fluid (Shark include some to get you started) - it's fairly straight forward to use as a mop, as you just do it in the storage/waste tank that removes and I had not drips/spells. The mop mode works well, I was grossed out by my floor and it looks much better now. The mop pad kind of virbates to give a mild scrubbing action - so it's not just dragging across the floor. This helps with the cleaning. If you have wooden floors, you can set zones, similar to other Shark Robots. So technically I could use it to mop my wooden floor and around rugs/carpets - maybe after a few more weeks use I will give it a try, I am just not confident to do that yet as my carpets tend to shift (kids playing, carpets are never in the exact same place). Beside, mostly I just want to vacuum other rooms twice a week and mop the kitchen once a month. The self emptying base means I can set it to vacuum while I am at work and really not think about. Yay! Worth knowing you can't leave it always ready to mop and vacuum. To vacuum, you have to remove the mop pad and it will vacuum away, wish you could leave the mop attachment in and smartly just switch as needed - but I guess that making things more complex and me more lazy! haha. The Shark Matrix is definitely a big upgrade on the Shark Navigator (my previous Shark Robot Vac), getting much more pet hair and dirt. It is also much smarter at navigation, having a periscope 360 LIDAR, so it didn't get all bump-jammed under the dining chairs! Overall, the Shark Matrix is a great robot vacuum and to be honest, would recommend in 10x over the Navigator series given the value of 2 in 1 and the improved cleaning/suction for pet hair.

The Shark - Matrix 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop with Self-Emptying system is a great step forward in the vacuum game. Providing innovative tech to a carpet robot, this one-in-all system provides accurate mapping, effective vacuuming, and surface cleaning via mopping feature. Shark brand continues to develop this section of their product line by continuing to bring new technology, user interfacing, and convenience for everyday users. The self-cleaning is highly effective offering up to one full month of regular use without needing to empty the home unit making this more convenient and less hassle that other units and brands. I found this to be a great addition to our home which is 90% hardwood floors and the rest area rugs. The robot makes good work of the floors via vacuuming, keeps the carpets clean from dog hair and crumbs, and generally helps remove dander and other debris from the floor. The mopping is a nice bonus, but not as convenience as the daily vacuuming due to needing more interaction. The home unit is awesome and need little interaction except monthly to empty. PROS - Shark quality, innovation, and technology - Nearly a whole-home vacuum/mop replacement - Innovative app and interface - Program and go for regular cleaning with little to no interaction - Up to 30 days for cleaning without a need to empty CONS - Cost of these units can be high, but this one is worth it if you are looking for less work and cleaner house. Trade off can be worth it for most people.

These little vacuum robots keep getting better and better and the AI mapping is really impressive. I like how it explores your space first and then allows you to set rooms by their name and then block certain areas using the software. You can also hook it up to your home assistant of your choice and you can schedule automated routines. The self emptying canister is now the only way to go. Gone are the days where you had to empty the bin manually out of your robot every time (sometimes twice a session). Now the robot handles everything, and while these are ideally still for low carpet and hardwood floors, you can get decent results vacuuming a high pile rug as long as your expectations are kept in check. This unit can also mop which is more or less wetting your floor, and then using a washcloth to wipe it up. You’re not gonna get scrubbing, nor will you get the results of an actual mopping, but I can see how could maintain a clean floor that’s already been mopped and scrubbed. That’s where these robots really shine. Instead of thoroughly vacuuming your place once a week you run this vacuum once or twice a day and it maintains a clean floor.

This is my review of the Shark Matrix 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop with Self-Emptying Bagless Base (30-Day Capacity) in Black. Setup was quick and pretty easy. I’ve owned several robot vacuums over the years—some have been great, while others were so sensitive that the smallest speck on a sensor made me want to throw them out the window. So far, the Shark Matrix has not given me any issues and has not been sensitive going crazy in circles lol! Another huge plus is the self-emptying container. It’s incredibly easy to empty, and since it’s bagless, I don’t have to buy or replace any bags like I’ve had to with other machines I also love that the snap-on side brush actually stays attached and in place. With other brands, I constantly had to pick it up and reattach it. The app is another good feature. I can see exactly what areas were vacuumed and mopped, choose the suction level (Eco, Normal, or Max), view the cleaning map, send the robot back to the dock with a push of a button on my phone, and even locate the robot if it gets stuck—which is such a good option to have All in all, I’m extremely impressed with this machine and would absolutely purchase it again!

I like the idea of a hands off, set and forget type of cleaning option. This does provide that with some pros and some cons: First, it is user friendly and easyvto get set up and running out of tbe box. It does need charged before first use, so get that going right away. Very minimal assembly required. Instructions are ckear and the prompts, paperwork and app do a fmgreat job of step by stepping you through getting it up.and running. Name your device, pair it to your wi fi and once its charged it will need to map tbe room or rooms to complete the set up. Here are pros and cons: Its great with dust, pet hair, loose dirt type daily accumulation in household floors. Not for bigger particles. It doesnt do well when it comes upon obstructions obstacles or cat toys. Also due to its shape and they way it works, it can leave some corner areas un cleaned. Seems like you need to know the schedule and pre ckean by removing anything that may obstruct it, which itms not unreasonable or a reason to not use it, just one of the things to be aware of if you want to go this route. The mop function is ok, but we find it most ymuseful for daily pet hair and day to day dust sweepi g type uses. All in all I find that it is a time saver and am happy to have it.

This new Shark Matrix 2 - n - 1 robot vacuum and mop with self emptying feature allows you to get rid of the bulky push vacuums, brooms, and no more messy mopping with buckets and the ever so fragrant pinesol haha! Whatever the task you may have, this vacuum has you covered, whether it be carpet, hardwood floors, or even tile floors. With a 30 day capacity that's long vacation from having anything to do with floor cleaning unless Fido makes  big poo in which this will not cover haha. It works with both Amazon Alexa and Google home. It comes with a remote and can also be controlled more advancely by using the Shark application. It's available for Android and Apple phones or devices.  If you don't already have an account, the application is very simple and takes you through each step on what to do get started all the way to completion by pairing the vacuum to your device. The overall process is quick and painless. It was honestly entertaining watching the vacuum learn and mapping out the areas. You do need to make sure you'd don't socks or shoes just laying around so it can do its job properly.  I was very impressed at the job it did with my floors, both carpet and hardwood. Overall I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking for an excellent robot vacuum and mop.

The Shark Matrix 2 1 robot vacuum and mop, with a self-emptying, bagless base and a 30-day capacity, is a beneficial device for any home. It returns to its charging base, where it empties itself and holds enough debris for 30 days. With the Shark Ninja app, you can program it with precision. The setup can be tedious, but it's worth it when done. The home-mapping shark robot can clean seamlessly throughout your home, avoiding obstacles, and with sensors that avoid pets, you get carefree cleaning. With daily or weekly schedules, you can manage your time and clean at your own pace. You can select just one room instead of the entire space if one area needs more attention. The vacuum is very powerful and can run for just under an hour. You can also use Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa to start the vacuum hands-free, making it just a little more effortless. And with the mop heads, it'll clean most messes in a breeze. Using a system called Matrix Clean that has complete coverage to clean all spots with no misses. It also has a Sonic mopping feature that picks up dry debris as if you were sweeping with a manual broom. And I love how it goes from hard flat surfaces to carpet without missing a beat. The cleaning heads are silicone fins that help reduce hair tangling through self-cleaning. I love that feature. If you are looking for an excellent home cleaning unit, check this one out!!!

This is a great little vacuum/mop for the right area and use case. You need to make sure you're getting the right cleaning robot for you and your space. The use of all Shark robots is fairly straight-forward because of the app and the ability to map your space. The Matrix 2-in-1 does a great job with both vacuuming and mopping, but does require a little more attention than other models. With this one, I'd say it's best if you're majority carpet in your space. It can map the floor, vacuum on a schedule, and empty itself. So, if you're just needing a vacuum with occasional mopping of small areas, this is an ideal device. You can have it run on a schedule, empty the dock once per month or so, and not have to think about it. You can designate where there is carpet in the app so that it's not going to soak your carpets. That being said, you need to watch it on the first run or two to make sure you have the areas mapped out correctly as the vacuum doesn't sense the difference on it's own. If you want to vacuum and mop an area (like if you have half carpet and half hard-wood, I'd go with one of the NeverTouch models which can sense where there is carpet and where is wood so it knows where it is safe to mop.

    Smart mapping, frustrating mopping, loud

The Shark Matrix 2-in-1 robot vac ended up being a bit of a disappointment despite being a very good robot vacuum. I've had quite a few robot vacs over the years, including a previous model that was one of their first units with LIDAR mapping that also had a mopping pad. This is my first Shark with self-emptying, though, and I was excited to compare this model with the others I've had with similar features (but never all in one). #Unboxing and first impressions# Shark does a pretty good job with their packaging. Most of the packing was cardboard and recyclable, which I always call out though it's becoming more common every year. There was a lot of cling plastic to protect the plastic parts of the robot, however. What Shark does well is having a nice paperboard insert with visual instructions and guidance on installing the SharkClean app for your smartphone. Setup in general was pretty familiar for me, having used other 'smart' robot vacs including my previous Shark model in the same app. #Using the Matrix robot# Once I added the new robot to my SharkClean app, I kicked off the initial mapping run as instructed. The mapping was very quick, as seems to be the case with most LIDAR robots these days. I found that it was also pretty accurate, surprisingly so compared to other models that I've used. The map shows permanent walls and has a different kind of indicator for furniture and temporary fixtures which I thought was a nice touch. It does a very good job of returning to base, and didn't have any issues docking and emptying. The base station is also not as insanely loud as others I've used, and is very easy to empty (though overall it is smaller and has less capacity than others I've used). Once I got to actually using the Matrix, though, things ended up being a little disappointing. For one, the unit is weirdly (and inconsistently) loud. The actual sound of the vacuum is not any louder (or quieter) than other units I've had, but at times it will start this loud ticking/clacking sound. It's almost as if some hard plastic piece is stuck in the brush roll, but I've double and triple checked and that's not the case. And it doesn't do it all the time. I am left wondering if it's something related to the LIDAR sensor spinning, but I haven't been able to narrow it down. Another frustration is with the mopping capability. Defining the carpeted areas on the map of my house was super easy. I like that Shark automatically does a confirmation run where the robot traces the edge of rugs you've set up in the map, but I found that it took way too many confirmation runs to get it right. I feel like a sensor built into the bottom of the robot that sensed when it goes "up" onto a rug would be easier for you (and the robot) to confirm. I also found that it wasn't terribly intuitive to send the robot to spot clean or mop an area due to the scale of the floorplan in the app. The square sizes were simply too big unless you zoom really far into your floorplan. As a result, it ended up being difficult to get it to clean just a small mess on the floor, so every "matrix clean" turned into a 5+ minute affair. #Final thoughts# Shark seems to have taken a step forward and a step back for me with this robot. It's faster than my previous Shark and has caught up with other LIDAR models in that regard. If it were simply a vacuum with a self-empty dock and a little cheaper, I would put the overall experience (app, dock, robot) among the best I've used. The inconsistent noisiness of the robot, and the frustration with the mopping keeps this from being a perfect score. You can leave the mop pad attached for regular cleaning, which is nice, but it was frustrating to get the mopping calibration complete in the app where it would avoid my many rugs. As a result, using the mop function requires a lot of work except in a few limited spots in my home, despite having wood floors throughout. I look forward to seeing where Shark improves in the next year or two.
