Watched this program religiously when it was on the air; missed it so much, I had to purchase the complete series! Am enjoying it just as much as I did all those years ago!

This is one of those TV shows that you either like it or don't. It's a show that you don't have to think about but just enjoy the mild comedy. My husband and I enjoyed it but our teenage children thought that it was boring. I feel it's more focus for the entertainment of middle age to older adults.

These are the Tates and these are the Campbells

A spoof of daytime soap operas, "Soap" was considered quite controversial even before its prime-time debut on ABC in 1977. Its cast of characters included the lecherous Chester Tate (Robert Manden), his airhead wife Jessica (Katherine Helmond), wisecracking butler Benson (Robert Guillaime), Jodie Dallas the crossdressing homosexual (Billy Crystal), the schizophrenic comedy team of Chuck Campbell and his dummy Bob (Jay Johnson), and, my personal favorite, Richard Mulligan as the manic Burt Campbell, who teeters the brink of insanity and believes he can make himself invisible by snapping his fingers. The central arc in Season 1 involves a mother-daughter affair with Peter the tennis pro (Robert Urich), whose murder places the Tates and Campbells as the prime suspects and culminates in a trial with a cliffhanger verdict. Confused? You won't be after watching Season 1 of "Soap".

This satirical series ran far too short. The Tates and Campbells have all the misfortunes that day time soap operas deal with, but in a different light. Buy this and you will have to have the other 3 seasons as well.
