It was between this one and a Samsung SUHD. Went with this one since it was on sale for $1399. $200 cheaper then the Samsung. Unboxing it and setting up the stand was easy. Where I got stuck was when I turned it on and when it asked for my WI FI password. Had no clue on how to bring up the onscreen keyboard. The manual makes no mention of it. No quick setup guide or instructions. Tried googling it and searching online but no luck. By now it was getting a little frustrating. Had to go online to get their number but being after hours their support line was closed. But good thing they had after hours chat. So the guy walks me through the setup. Who knew that all I had to do was press the middle button on the remote. Would have been nice if they include a quick setup guide. Took about 40 minutes to complete the setup because it goes through a firmware update and a Google update. The speakers are subpar, I may need to invest on a sound bar. My 11 year old Samsung 720p sounded a million times better then this tv. Tried adjusting the sound settings but still sounds cheap. The remote will take a while to get used to. As a matter of fact you may just hate it. The buttons are flat. They are not raised so you won't know what you're pressing and will press on the incorrect button which will take you someplace else. The bottom buttons are tiny. If you have fatter fingers you'll be pressing on the wrong buttons. And forget it if you have the lights off in your room. It can get frustrating. If you know braille you'll do okay. The picture is really nice. The other reason I went with this one and not the Samsung SUHD is because the picture is more realistic and doesn't look fake. I'm on an over the air antenna and all my local channels come in HD and look great. I'm also on Netflix and Sling TV and most of their programming come in HD or 4K and picture is beautiful. The colors are nice and vibrant without looking fake. Overall I'm very happy with this tv but only wished the speakers and remote were better. This is why I'm giving it four stars. If you can get past those two things I think you'll be happy. I do like the response of the remote buttons however. They have a nice crisp feel. They don't feel spongy like some other remotes.

Quick review: fantastic picture quality (HDR looks great); color is accurate (skin tones look like skin tones); clarity and upscaling are still way ahead of Samsung/LG/Vizio. Like all thin tv's these days the speakers are weak; use with a sound bar!; use standard picture setting with "smooth" motion control and "ambient light control" settings turned OFF and the television is plenty bright for your living room; android operating system is a mixed bag and slower than LG's web os3. It works and is stable but I would've preferred something more akin to their PS4 OS. I've owned so many brands of televisions over the last 20 years it's embarrassing that we spend as much as we do on TV's but we have a large household and get the mileage out of them. Long review: I've bought many brands of televisions over the last 20 years and though mainline review sources such as consumer reports are grading many of the Samsungs higher than Sony, real world usage is proving much better with the Sony's in our household. We now own 3 Sony televisions - this 65" 850D, 2015's 65" 810c and a 2007 40" LCD model KDL40SL130. I've owned several 50"+ screen panasonics (plasma turned out to have the shortest life), two Samsungs, two LG's and one Vizio. We have a large household (5 kids) so our tv's are heavily used. If you're a stickler for lifelike non-overblown non-oversaturated color, then Sony is the only way to go. Some people love cartoon looking overblown skin tones but I hate that look. Sony gets color and clarity right every time, even on their more basic TV's. This model has a beautifully color accurate picture that I saw couldn't be matched by even the Samsung KS9000 which was the step up from the KS8000 I was debating. You need to take your own USB video file and plug them into the televisions you're considering in the store to be able to compare the images side by side. For 1080p upscaling to 4K, Sony runs away with it. It's literally no contest. Colors are more lifelike and accurate and clarity is superior. The other area Sony excels in is motion - Not the "smooth" motion setting that makes everything look like a soap opera but sports and fast action motion that keeps blurring at a minimum. This TV has exceptional motion clarity. Virtually all review sources tout Sony's dominance here and that was my 2nd reason for going with another Sony. HDR is still a luxury and will be for another year as providers slowly start broadcasting with it. For 1080p upscaling to 4K, Sony is still the only way to go. Netflix and Amazon HDR shows look great on this TV. For everyday, all around movie, sports and gaming, this tv is the best one in the $1000-2000 price range.

I did my research before purchasing this TV. I bought it primarily for 4K HDR blu-rays. This TV exceeded my expectations. I had some concerns but I did not want to spend over $3,000. The picture quality is top notch. So far, I've also used this TV for 4K netflix, amazon and youtube. Very little gaming, but it seems to perform well for both xbox one and PS4. Android TV is fun and well done. My previous smart TV's were slow and clunky. I use multiple iOS devices and was concerned about compatibility issues. No issues so far. Other notable app's include PlayStation TV. (The TV syncs with a dual shock 4 controller, no additional accessories required.) Wireless sub's sync with the TV as well to help improve audio. I already have a soundbar so I didn't spend much time with this feature.

Being a young professional, cost was a big consideration when I decided I was going to buy a new TV. I knew I wanted a 4K TV but I was going back and forth for a while if I truly needed HDR. I also was questioning if I should buy in the 50-59" range or 60-65". I decided to spend the extra few hundred dollars knowing that Sony is a dependable brand that I could trust. Over the course a few years, I figured the benefit of having HDR and the bigger size would be worth the extra cost. I am amazed by the picture quality, especially when watching HBO or Netflix. I am also a huge sports guy - watching the Super Bowl on "Live Football Mode" was a big hit with all of my buddies. I don't regret this purchase one bit and have no reservations about recommending the TV to a friend or family member.

Nice tv for the price. Very easy setup, sturdy base, easy to use remote. Picture quality is excellent in all light levels, even bright sunlight. The dark grays and blacks are okay but tend to blend together somewhat, great colors though.

The picture quality for LED continues to improve with each model year. This one surpasses plasma and expectations. The color and response is amazing for its size. I have a 70 inch 850B in the game room and this one is much better though the older one is good. The most noticeable improvement is for sports and movement tracking for basketballs, footballs and baseballs. I also have watched some 4K programming and the color is stunning.

Sony makes a great TV and this XBR-850 is among the best for picture quality, rich color and clear motion. The picture quality and clarity of 4K content is incredible. I particularly appreciate how easy it was to set up and color tones right from the box. The wide range of available preprogrammed color-tuning options is sure to provide the best viewing of any content and/or individual preference. Sony builds high quality, great reliability and outstanding performance into its TV's and at a great value for this 4K HDR.

After reading a handful of reviews for the Sony xbr65850d I was a little hesitant at first after comparing this model against the Samsung I ended up pulling the trigger on the Sony and have no regrets I have Spectrum as my cable provider and my picture and colors are excellent.. it all depends on if your into over color saturation then you might want the Samsung model but if you want a more realistic color then I would recommend the Sony model very happy with my purchase the remote is not the greatest but I didn't purchase the tv for the remote and the speakers are horrible but if your purchasing a 4k tv your either buying a sound bar or a surround system.... bottom line it's a good buy!!!

We waited until we got the best pre-Christmas price and it was worth it. So far, this has been an excellent purchase. It was relatively easy to set up. For the most part, we have been using default settings for picture quality and they are quite good. I don't think I would go as far as to say the picture is stunning, but it is really excellent. There is a special sports watching mode that is very good for sports. The audio is as good as you are going to get with any TV. If audio is really important to you, get a sound bar. We are using Frontier cable with an HDMI connection and it seems to upscale quite nicely. This is our first smart TV, and I've finally gotten around to checking out the services and apps, such as Netflix and YouTube and others. We are accessing them through our wireless network, which seems to be able to handle the streaming data (and was easy to set up). I don't know if a wired connection would help. I haven't tried it. But the quality of the 4K video streams is pretty awesome. I just wish there was more 4K content out there, especially for live sports. (There is an MLB TV app and I am hoping that some teams will decide to broadcast in 4K this year.) The android TV operating system is pretty easy to get used to. It takes a while to do updates, but you do them at your convenience. In short, I believe this TV is worth the cost, especially the sale price you can get it for. The picture is excellent (including upscaling). The audio is OK. Features and Smart TV apps work well and are easy to use. I have not found anything that I do not like about this TV so far. I would recommend this set.

To begin, by far the best price you will find for this Sony model IS at Best Buy. Secondly, if you are NOT tech driven or need a TV like this save more money and grab another model (Non 4k) because quite honestly the 4K output in the world is not up to where it needs to be for so many models and or sales people to be pushing it onto an individual looking to buy (Like myself) So I pulled the trigger, (Tech individual here) made the purchase. Everything this Sony model offers is outstanding. I waited weeks now to give my review because honestly it needed a good run through first. The quality is GREAT, I have no devices which currently put out 4k picture, however the picture is still crisp and blows me away. The Intelli remote is something else, way to make someone lazy Sony, I can talk to the remote and it jumps the TV to do what I want whether surfing the net or accessing an app. And finally, the amount of apps the TV is compatible with is surely going to keep me planted on the couch for some time. Installation onto my wall mount was a bit tricky as I did not have bolts to fit the rear mounting points nor does the TV come with anything but not a big deal, an easy trip to the store. TV is very thin and took up no space at all compared to my "1st Gen" flat from Panasonic that was an eye sore on the wall with how much width from the wall it would sit.

Bought a 65 and 55 at the same time. Both on sale, but got a better price on the 65 with price match as Best Buy recently sold for even less. Few weeks later price matched again on both as the prices dropped even further. Outstanding picture quality on both. Quick and easy set up. Followed recommended online calibrations settings. I'm set for years to come.

I got this tv about 6 months ago. When people say get the tv with all the bells n whistles, this is it. The best thing about this tv is HDR. Gamers out there need HDR for the new consoles coming out. If your not a gamer then you can still take advantage with 4K Netflix as some shows have HDR. The settings are crazy customizable. You will spend a long time customizing to what fits your viewing needs. It has also dropped in price since. This is due to the new 900c series. Sony has made a huge comeback and this TV shows what I mean. I love that it has the Google play store. I can download tons of app store on the tv. I got a JBL sound bar to go along with it also from Bestbuy. Amazing experience. Enjoy!

Was very concerned about settings and vowing angle on such a large tv. Set up was easy and picture was great straight out of the box, no adjustments needed. Upscale is amazing especially for non 4K cable tv broadcasts. Not an audiofile but know a good picture when I see it. Viewing angle is superb from every angle, even standing far far left or right of screen. No motion blur with football at all. Android system is easy to use.

The XBR65X850D is the total package: tops at upscaling non 4K, excellent motion, great picture, and good contrast and blacks all for about half the cost of an OLED. Read on if you want more details. I researched all the brands and for me it came down to the 3 Sony’s. The 850 has the Triluminos Display and the X1 Processor that the 750 does not. The 930 has slim backlight drive and X-Tended Dynamic Range Pro but was priced $600 higher for what I perceived as slight improvements. (For my use the 3D on the 930 would have been a waste.) Some reviews mentioned bleeding and poor black levels on the 850 but I haven’t witnessed any shortcomings there. Sites like rtings and 4K were mostly positive but CNET’s assessment had me worried for no reason. (Color accuracy and motion clarity are more important to me than having deep blacks as I value color more than black and white!) Since we use an older surround sound system the internal speakers were not a factor. Seldom have I been more pleased with a purchase as no one set has it all. But the 850 proved to be the best all around choice if you consider pricing in the equation. 3 week follow up - I will suggest the following: 1. If you haven’t done so, then upgrade the firmware from the Sony website. 2. Spend some time adjusting the picture settings to fine-tune to your liking. (Afterwards I am even more impressed with this set as there are an amazing amount of tweaks available to address a high percentage of the issues some have mentioned like black levels, bleeding, motion jitter on “crawls” etc. Guests sometimes ask “what kind of tv is that?”) I started with the “vivid” picture mode and reduced the color and sharpness values and turned off the noise reduction settings. Here’s my list: brightness max, color 57, light sensor off, contrast max, gamma 0, black level 50, black adjust high, adv. contrast enhancer high, hue r2, color temperature cool, color space sRGB/BT.709, live color high, sharpness 50, reality creation auto, random noise reduction off, digital noise reduction off, motionflow clear, cinemotion off. (fyi there is a “reset” on the menu if you wish to return to factory defaults.)

We bought this Sony 65" TV on sale at Best Buy, always buy at year's end and on sale. It was a very good price for a Sony and @ Best Buy you can and touch it in person, not just look at a web sight, and actually talk to someone live, not just chat with someone who probably is not even in the US. For high price items, I like to go to a store to actually see the item. Best Buy has a price match guarantee also. The Sony TV was easy to set up and has worked great since installation. It was actually lighter than the 52" we replaced. The 4K screen is much clearer than the 1080 screen as it should be. And the 64" screen is great for movies and sports events, and really, anything else. There are plenty of inputs, 4 HDMI's, component and composite, etc. There are cheaper 65" TV's, But Sony is still a great company that makes great TV's. I have always found that in most cases, cheaper is not better, and highest priced items are not worth the cost. I like to stay in the middle or upper middle, but I also like to get a sale. This TV fit the bill.

I purchased this TV on a one day sale for $1499, so my review rating is based on comparison with other products at this same price level. The TV provides wonderful color and great detail even when it is upscaling from a cable box. I can't comment on the sound from the TV because I run the sound through my stereo surround system. The set-up for the TV takes quite a while so have some dinner while you are waiting for the TV to update its software, android apps, and connect to Google. I am not sure how you could even set this TV up without a WI-FI internet connection (I guess you would have to run an Ethernet cable from your modem to the TV. In my case that would be an extremely long cord). My question about this TV and the others in the "Smart" TV category is: Why does the TV have to be so smart? I already have three other devices that connect the internet (Netflix, Pandora, browsing, etc., etc.) to a TV through HDMI cables, so I do not see any time in the future where I will utilize the apps supported by the TV. It makes you wonder how much less the TV would cost if built as just a TV and not with all the streaming and gaming capabilities that most people just don't need. Bottom Line -- this is a really great TV for the price and the one thing you will really appreciate is the non-reflective coating on the screen which other manufacturers do not have. I hate it when my TV screen reflects every light in the room - I don't like to watch TV in the dark.

I had a lot of trouble with picking this tv, I was considering a vizio P series and it was supposed to be better on all levels according to all the research I had done, but reviews are one thing, seeing for yourself is another. conveniently I went to best buy and both tv's were mounted right next to each other. the XBR put the P series to shame! I couldnt believe my eyes, everything I was told was that the P series was better but with both of them sitting in front of me the results were undeniable! the picture had so much more depth and color! such a crisp image, couldn't be happier with my purchase, it was also $200 cheaper. win win. I love the usability of all the apps. it's so convenient when using YouTube, speak into the remote and it had never misspelled anything I've said, amazing. no need for any other device, don't need Google chrome cast, it's all built in, I have hulu, Amazon video, Netflix, chrome cast, Pandora etc. great tv
