Great starting camera for pictures and videos

I purchased this camera to be able to take great quality pictures as well as recording video off of a tripod. I looked at DSLR cameras, and did not see any benefit in buying one. This one was lighter, more compact, and in my opinion, much better looking. It has a black (aluminum?) body which makes it look great. But not only does it look great, it performs great. This camera has is 24.3 megapixels, and can record video in 1080p at 60 frames for 20 minutes at a time. For the price (I got it on sale for $550) you can not beat the quality. This is the first dedicated camera I have purchased, and I am absolutely pleased with it. It is simple to set up and use, and ready to go. It has two auto modes, Superior Auto and Intelligent Auto for picture taking. Both of these modes basically sense the lighting and scenery and set the camera up to take the best picture in that setting. It also has a scene selection mode in which you can select what you are taking pictures of, and it presets the mode to what it thinks will create the best possible picture. You can also manually adjust everything you want to customize your shots. The video quality is great as long as there is ample light, I would recommend that you purchase an external microphone if you are going to be recording video. The preview screen on the back looks great. You can adjust the viewing angle (up or down), but it does not flip over the side or top to be able to view it from the front of the camera. It has a view finder as well, but I do not really use it, but it does work and looks good. Overall this camera seems to be good build quality and I have not found any defects with it. I can also easily transfer pictures I take from the camera, to my phone via Wi-Fi that the camera creates. This makes it easy for me to quickly share great pictures with family and friends. Overall I think that this camera is perfect for the price range and what it was made for. No it does not have a full frame sensor, but it also does not have a full frame sensor price tag. I would 100% buy it again. In the picture I did place the camera in a cage for more versatility while filming, it is not included with the product.

I purchased my Alpha 6000 on Black Friday of 2015, but the first time I encounter this camera was in the store many months before. At first, the price put me off. I was not able to afford the camera at it's near thousand dollar price tag, but I knew if I waited and save it would be worth. I was so right. The reason I wanted this camera so badly is because I wanted something I could shoot video with that wasn't in your face. I am working on building a professional video portfolio and part of it is doing intimate interviews that don't require a whole lot, but it can be very intimidating to have a huge camera in your face when you are trying to be sincere about the topic. Big cameras make people so nervous and understandably. I spent MONTHS researching this camera and those comparable to it. I would NOT recommend buying this camera with just the body only because you are getting a great deal with the lens. Trust me, it is worth a little more money and investment for the lens. One of the most difficult things I encountered in my research is figuring out what the internal mic sounds like. Mind you, I am not expecting to use the internal mic for my professional bits, but sometimes it is nice to have and to use for the light background stuff. After finally finding a video that compared all the aspects of the camera to a Canon one, including the sound, I was sold completely. The internal mic works so wonderfully and you could honestly get away with not using an external one for your audio if you are doing projects like I am. There's not a whole lot of bad with this camera. It is truly easy to use and fun to play with; I would definitely recommend it for everyone, especially the novices trying to go more pro. The camera is weightless, simple to learn, and just a joy to have. It is definitely something you will use for years.

For a long time, I have wanted to get a camera to deliver the results I obtained with the Sony-Alpha. I tried a different brand (more expensive), and I had returned because I felt that the pictures from my camera phone were the same quality. After reading the reviews, I decided to use my Christmas money and go for it! Best thing I've done! I did a photoshoot of my dogs on the first day, and it was so much fun! (See pictures below)

OMG, I love this camera. I love the high burst frames per second. I catch a lot of things in motion. I think my favorite thing about the camera is that I can send pictures directly from my camera to my phone. Great lighting, very compact, with a sleek look! The one complaint I have is the the battery life. It doesn't seem to last long. I have purchased a back up battery.

This, "Jack of All Trades" camera is a wonder, especially for the price, beating DSLR's that cost 3 times its cost. This large sensor on a small body is easy to carry and fun to use. Buy it and know, you'll never have to buy another!!

I bought this camera for my wife and I because we are going to do a lot of traveling this year. We've never owner a camera over $150 so this was our first big purchase. After reading all of the reviews we decided to go with the A6000. We first used it on our trip to Havasupai, AZ this weekend and the photos came out amazing. We simply used the landscape setting and snapped away. We aren't photographers and we didn't have to photo shop the photos. The pictures were stunning and I am very satisfied with the camera.

I have had this camera for about 6 weeks. I was able to take it on a short trip to the mountains. Photos are very clear. In-camera menus are much easier to navigate than they were in a Canon I had. Colors are bright! I have not printed any photos yet, but the digital images look great. So easy to carry as it is much lighter than I expected. Easy switch out of lenses. Two small drawbacks are the neck strap is very rough and uncomfortable enough I switched it out, and the lens covers don't have a cord to hold them to the camera when not in use (and no holes in covers to add a cord).

A6000 is the best to go if you don't want to haul a DSLR with you. Image quality is beyond description. It's a great buy, I read and test a lot before I purchase. I want to make sure I get my money's worth and this camera delivered every penny. Low lights (church) photos were great.

I went in to get a point and shoot Canon camera to throw in my purse. What I didn't expect was to buy and fall in love with a whole new line of cameras. I was shown the Sony a6000 by the sales person and the Sony Rep just happened to be there. I spent 3 times what I wanted to spend initially but I am so happy with this camera that I'll probably sell off my other heavier gear for this Super Beauty !!!

I have always used a large digital camera and was getting tired of carrying it around. I would just use my cell phone but missed the options of a real camera. The Sony A6000 is amazing. Its 's small and light and the picture quality is great. You will not be disappointed.

Great camera. You have all kind of videos online to teach you how to properly use and navigate. Not too big, not too heavy. Endless functions and modes. Starting lens is goood, but take into consideration you will soon want to get a bigger lens, then a bigger and so on.....

I just purchased Sony - Alpha a6000 and I am so excited to make it my new go to camera. For years I have been using the Sony a300 and I have managed to be able to capture years of beautiful memories with that camera. It is time to move on with my new camera because it is so much lighter, it focuses so incredibly fast and supports a lot more pixels giving you a brighter, sharper photo. There are still many accessories you can purchase to be very creative with this camera. I look forward to gathering more memories and having a lot of fun with a more advanced camera.

I wanted a compact camera to capture photos of my wedding/honeymoon without sacrificing image quality. I purchased an open box model. The device itself was in perfect condition. The box was missing the camera's neck strap, but it came with a lens cap which the retail model does not. This camera performed spectacularly. Focus speed and image quality are truly amazing. Transferring photos to my smartphone using NFC works very well, and is useful for uploading shots to social media. The stock lens was fine for most of my photos, though I recommend picking up Sony's 55-210mm lens for outdoor shots that require a bit more zoom.

There are way to many small cameras out on the market. They all claim to do this--- do that--- However, this is certainly above it's competition. I have not tested all of its competitors, but I felt this was a good choice for me. Fast. Responsive. Sd Card. Pocket size. and Manual Settings. Great Color. I shoot from weddings to candids. There are some negatives for some of my uses... But overall, this is a winner!

    I'm So Mad At Sony

I had a Sony a6000, and it was the best camera experience of my life. I just wish I would have investigated the cost of the lenses before purchasing, however. I ended up selling my camera because the kit lens was just not very good - it developed a healthy fisheye distortion - and I couldn't afford to upgrade. Now I am packing a Nikon d3200, and taking pretty pics - but, it's not a Sony a6000. I'm sad, and mad at Sony for being so darn expensive and elitist. I feel robbed of a fun premium photography experience because I can't pay their price. Waaaaa!!!!!

I purchased this for my wife but I can't keep my hands off of it! I have probably taken as much or more pictures than she has. The untouched photos are just breath taking clear, crisp and always in focus. I have used most of the features and settings and just can't believe the power of this light weight, well built mirrorless camera. I am a fan and will be investing in another A6000 or possibly an A7 series soon. We also purchased a sony 35mm prime lens (E 35mm F1.8 OSS E-mount Prime Lens) and wow is all i can say!

I bought this camera with the intention on using it in South America in a city in Colombia. It was easy to use from the get go. Day time pictures came out excellent with the stock lens. I used it primarily for the intention of shooting photos of the family around scenic areas. With the flash photography, night time pictures weren't an issue. I would recommend looking into more advanced lens if you are more serious about photography though as far away pictures didn't come out as nice as I expected. Still would rate this 5 stars for a beginner/intermediate
