I found the software and manual difficult to understand. I think that they could have made it easier to navigate.

The SONY Turntable does not work with WIndows 7, even though the printed manual sent with it has instructions for using Windows 7. The SONY techies will all tell you that it will not work with WIndows 7, and their manuals all tell them that. SONY's literature does not tell you that when you are deciding to buy it.

This product is amazing! Perfect for a beginner like myself! My only negative comment about this record player is that the instructions are horrible. It took me 3 or 4 YouTube tutorials to figure out how to assemble it but after I figured it out the player worked beautifully!

Overall this turntable works well. The only complaint was that the instructions were not as helpful as I would have liked and because of that had a difficult time setting it up.

Product does not stay assembled easily, poor instructions, and requires additional purchase of speakers to use this player. I returned this item to store.

Software and documentation leave a lot to be desired. Took some time of trial and error to record to PC (windows 10), but once figured out I am very happy with the product.

Had to cheat, per the manual, to pick inputs. Phono isn't an option anymore. My 40 and 50 year old vinyls sound new!

Easy to set up and use. Sound quality needs to be optimized prior to digitizing CDs. This optimization is not explained very well in the user manual - at least I have not figured it out. Once optimized it will be fine, but I'll need to resort to YouTube. The turntable does sound great.

I found out that USB connects only in conjunction with PC program, not Mac. Tried USB direct to soundbar: No go. Connected to amp-speaker via RCA cable: 1/2 volume. Flip switch in back from Phono to Line: Works great. Switch must turn on preamp but scant instructions do not say that.

The set up for this turntable could have been explained better in the setup manual. There is a switch on the back that changes the input that caused a few hours of frustration. Customers need to know that an amplifier is required that you may or not already have. Our other systems were not compatible. Once the amplifier, a sound bar, was connected and the switch was put in the correct position, the turntable worked well.

Great use for old vinyl records. The sound is great. The move of the records to CD is easy to do. The only problem with it is the instructions are not update wth the different versions of our operating systems.

It's the software that needs to be more user friendly. Took a while to get familiar with the software and how to merge tracks if it separated them. It can be done but does take an understanding of it before using it. Does have to be babysat for correct track recording. It can be recorded as 1 long track and manully separated or recorded 1 track at a time. Make sure you have your computer set correctly for recording inputs and playback. Could have been clearer in documentation.

Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase. Hardware-wise this thing is great. Software-wise is adequate. It works for the most part, but of the vinyl albums I've ripped so far, every one, execept a 12 inch single required a lot of manual work to make into MP3's. Many times it does not catch the breaks between songs which leads to a lot of manual editing to get all the tracks. The software isn't hard to use but the interface takes some getting used to. Once you learn it, it really isn't a problem. So far I've ripped about 12 LPs to MP3 and have been very happy with the results. If you don't mind a little bit of non-obvious learning curve, this product works just fine. Audio results (ripped MP3s from vinyl) are actually much better than I expected.

Phonograph is great - Conversion Software Terrible

The phonograph plays vinyl's very well - great sound. However, the software that converts vinyl to digital was easy to load. However, the plus quickly turned negative. The software is not user friendly, does an extremely poor job to identify tracks/breaks between songs, requires a lot of manual intervention to separate tracks. After working with the software for 30 days I have never been able to get a complete track for a single song. I bought the turntable to specifically transfer vinyl to digital. If I knew it was going to be so much work and time intensive I would not have bought the product. I should have returned the product to BEST BUY. Since it was a Sony product I thought it would be good. I was wrong!

    Great for the price

This turntable performs well, but the lack of a pre-amp is very noticeable. Even so, I would recommend this turntable for what it does fairly well, Switchable EQ is nice, and a damped tonearm movement with automatic operation is appreciated. Some more expensive models don't do this, and tonearm handling is very important. Installing the belt drive and platter is easy. The rubber mat on the platter is thin, but adequate. Some background rumble is audible at times, but is barely noticeable. The included software is not impressive, but easy availability of better software mitigates this fault. Instructions for recording USB and monitoring via the PC are confusing. The short RCA cable requires extension to connect to the amplifier. Not cool. Fortunately I'm using this turntable to digitize my LP collection, so am satisfied to leave it offline for now. Considering the price, this is still a good buy, and in spite of the faults I'm very happy. It would be easy to spend more for less functionality.

    Great record player!

I was fortunate enough to find this great turntable at my local best buy for about a third of the full-price because it was an open-box special. I'm loving this player already. The Sony software it comes with is great too. It allows for simple vinyl to MP3 conversion should you choose to backup your classic albums with that snap, crackle, and pop that today's crisp CD's lack. @@@@@@@@ Not necessarily a good things for those of us who grew up listening to vinyl. @@@@@@@ Don't get me wrong, I love listening to music on CD's, but sometimes the nostalgic side of me wants to listen to the crackling and popping of the records. The overall sound quality is great. Setup is simple. I'm guessing the turntable I purchased was returned because someone probably didn't read the manual and thought the player was defective. There is some minor assembly required. There is the silver platter which must be put in place as well as the rubber pad on top of the silver platter. First, however; there is a rubber belt wrapped around the base of the silver platter. This belt MUST be placed around the piece which spins the platter. If you do not do that first your player will appear to be non-functional. If you're not the type to read manuals (like myself) you may miss that. In any case, this is a great player and I was lucky to get a great deal on it. The retail price seems a bit high for me... especially when there are players on the market that you can get for 99 bucks, but it's definitely a good quality product! I'd highly recommend it for anyone who wants to convert their classic albums to a digital format.
