I love this speaker so much and for the price it's even better. It's sound is amazing and if you spend a lot of time near the pool or in my case the lake then you're going to love it even more. I completely submerged it and not only did it not miss a beat it literally floated on top of the water. I also love the light show it has and i can change the colors with one touch of a button. Did i mention it plays without charge for over 12 hours too? Loveeeee it!

This Soundcore Flare portable Bluetooth speaker is a great value. Sound is remarkable for the size and price point. Paired up easily. App download was also very simple. The app gives you the ability to tweak the sound and light settings and also play/pause the music. When I messed with the EQ the sound seemed to get much worse; lost all bass etc. I ended up putting it back to the normal default setting which sounds the best anyway. Lights are fun and there are many lighting choices (Party Chill Energy, Bedtime and Spring) All of which you can refine even further to color choices and how the lights react. This has become a trend with many Bluetooth speakers. Not real important to me, just give me great sound and simple operation. The outside has a nice feel, very similar to old speaker coverings of the past. Love the fact that it is waterproof as well. You can also buy a second speaker and sync it for stereo use, and at this price I might just do that. Battery life is great as well. Ran for at least 10 hours before re-charge and it was not fully dead yet. There are 5 buttons on top; Play, Vol +, Vol -, Lights, Bass. Only the play and Bass buttons light up. I would prefer they all did. Pros: Sound Portable size Waterproof Price Battery Life Cons: Non back lit Play Vol+, Vol- buttons Bottom line, worth every penny. Best i have tested for a $60 speaker

Easy to operate and easily connected to my iPod via Bluetooth. Have not tested the waterproof capability and have no intention of doing so. We use it out on our deck and the sound quality is very good. For the price, I don't think it can be beat.

PROs: - Very solidly built w/substantial heft; quality of fit & finish belies its bargain-basement pricing - LED lighting is fun without being over-the-top...you can tailor the color schemes via companion Soundcore app (Flare remembers the last scheme selected): -- Party: all colors available for the various animation effects -- Energy: reds, oranges, purples, and blues -- Chill: reds, oranges and yellows -- Bedtime: light oranges and warm, even brownish earth-tones -- Spring: yellows, blues and greens -- Off: for battery savings and/or conservative or non-distracting use - LED effects available via the button on the top of the unit or Soundcore app: -- Static: cycles through the available colors (from the color schemes above) one color at a time to illuminate the entire base; colors change about every 5 seconds -- Fusion: basically a series of two closely related colors (red and orange, light blue and dark blue, light purple and violet, etc.) mixing and moving back and forth -- Pulse: colors change as they "race" around the circular base -- Music sync: the LEDs pulse & change colors/intensity in sync to the music -- Breathe: this scheme is available for "Chill" and "Bedtime" color schemes--LEDs slowly pulse in intensity/brightness - Hits the "360-degree" mark with sound radiating in all directions regardless of where you're sitting/listening - Bass boost ('Bass Up") available via app or directly on the unit with a dedicated button that illuminates to let you know the mode is active (nice!) - Bottom treated w/thick, anti-skid matting making it stable for slick surfaces and unlikely to move with slight/accidental bumps - Typical multi-function/single-button control scheme w/separate volume +/- buttons allow for direct volume control with play/pause, track skip forward and back, and Siri-type voice assistant activation (as well as call accept, hold, end, etc.—YES, you can take/make calls on the Flare!) - Sleep timer ("sleep mode") turns off the LEDs in 30 minutes - Soundcore app allows you tailor the EQ with Default (large V-shaped boost), Flat (slight boosts across all bands), Chill (mild bass and treble boosts), Voice (mild bass and treble boost with stronger mids), and custom (9-band slider EQ) settings, all with the option to add even more "Bass up" boost - You are greeted by a futuristic “power up” sound accompanied by some reassuring pings/beeps when Bluetooth is enabled and another when a device successfully connects…power down gets a similar “robot-turning-off” confirmation. Audio status indicators definitely contribute to the cool factor as well as being a nice usability touch--no hunting for LED colors/blinks to know what’s going on with my speaker - Sound quality is decent though the bass boost is pretty much a necessity to squeeze anything approaching "musical" or “engaging” performance out of this otherwise diminutive tube CONs: - Sound quality is indeed only "decent.” This is a small unit, about the height of my checkbook and little bigger around than a soda can (see included image). It’s capable, pretty good even…I'd liken it to a respectable PC speaker...just fine for a nightstand, desktop, portable console setup, dorm room, or even a workplace PC where a little LED zing wouldn’t be frowned upon. Just don't expect big "room filling" sound with any depth or heft, especially at higher volumes where the Flare started sounding hollow and even strained, especially without the ‘Bass Up’ feature activated - The outer covering is fabric rather than plastic or metal; it retained water and felt wet much longer than some competing waterproof speakers - Soundcore app is extensive but the playback controls are limited to volume and play/pause only (no FFW/REW, skip or other selection options)...song select/skip functions would have dramatically streamlined the user experience by keeping everything in one place app - App has a "user manual," but it's really just a wrapper for the support website--not a big deal, but it's always nice when the manual/FAQ is available offline - I get why the sleep mode is available within the "Bedtime" LED scheme--but what if I wanted to turn off the LEDs from within one of the other color schemes (you can’t)? The sleep timer also just turns off the LEDs, not the speaker itself - Supports only Bluetooth and analog playback--the mini-USB port only provides battery charging; you cannot use the Flare as a USB PC speaker - NOT designed to left plugged in (to ensure you have a constant supply of amplifier power)…the manual even cautions you, “Do not charge your speaker for extended periods.” - EQ interface is stylized to ‘look cool’ (I suppose), but the graphics are a bit misleading—the EQ curve is “mirrored” on the screen so that any boosts also look like cuts (see the included image). Not a big deal, but something to note for those just poking around the app to see what it can do - When I used the app, ‘Soundcore Flare’ appeared a second time under the list of connected Bluetooth devices in my phone. This may be a quirk of the app because the second instance always disappeared after I closed the app even though I was still connected and could play music Summary review: With features that approach or even rival some pricier competitors, the Flare is a capable unit among the crowded field of LED BT speakers. The LEDs themselves make for a fun addition to the listening experience though the effect that is FAR more subtle than the in-your-face light shows featured across the fronts of some competitor’s models. Box includes a mini-USB cable (always appreciated) and 100+ page instruction manual (the instructions are only 10 tiny pages long but are reproduced in multiple languages). The rubberized top has raised buttons for volume control at the 3 (vol +) and 9 (vol -) o’clock positions, a raised multi-function button in the center, and two illuminated controls at 12 and 6 o’clock for light effects and bass boost. An understated “soundcore” nameplate is centered near the bottom of the flared tube. Illuminated BT and power buttons are on the backside, as well as a waterproof, tethered rubber covering protecting the 3.5mm input and mini USB charging port. With True Wireless pairing, you can even set the speaker up for stereo reproduction (assuming you’ve got a second Soundcore Flare). The heft and solid construction are reassuring—if nothing else, this FEELS like a premium product and one that wouldn’t look cheesy if displayed on a desk or shelf. In use, the speaker is a bit of a mixed bag. The waterproof design is pretty compelling by itself (if you need it)…it makes the Flare safe for poolside or shower-side use. I can’t say for certain whether the tight-weave fabric covering will retain or repel beach sand—you may need a vacuum or brush as I would assume it's possible for fine granules to get stuck in the mesh. The manual insists you can submerge the speaker in up to 1m of water for 30 minutes (there's even an image on the box of the speaker splashing into the water). Water temps in our pool hover around 55 during the winter so I'll have to take Anker's word for it--but I did run the Flare under a faucet for more than 10 minutes and it never skipped a beat during BT playback. Battery capacity is claimed to be 12 hours. I never used it for more than 2-3 hours at a time, but at the end of a workday, there was always at least 50% battery capacity left after multiple listening sessions. The power indicator will flash if the battery needs juice; it takes about 3 hours for a full charge. Sadly, there’s no audible signal for battery power, even at startup--a missed opportunity given the great audible feedback already built into the unit. More unfortunately, you’re not supposed to leave the speaker on a constant charge (like I’m prone to do for my rechargeable devices) so you might have to figure some charging time into whatever attention you plan to give the speaker during use. If you’re still with me, you’re probably waiting for the bone-crusher—how does it sound? Well, it’s…pretty good. The Flare is not incredible, not even for its size; it won’t blow your socks off or rattle the windows. It will play very loud, but not very pleasantly so. If you take the size of the speaker into account and don’t expect more, you probably won’t be disappointed—you can rock out with it on your desk (thanks to its size, it will fit nicely there) or simply enjoy the ambience it provides in larger, open settings (like a beach or poolside). But it’s not going to be the center/life of the party unless your party is on the smallish/quieter side. I found it distorting noticeably at higher listening levels and the hollowness associated with the simple physics of tiny drivers trying to reproduce deep bass tones were quite clear at anything above moderate volumes. The EQ options in the companion app were interesting and certainly appreciated, but there’s not much you can do with even 9 bands of EQ to overcome the physical limitations of small drivers in a small enclosure. But I doubt anyone looking at a budget, smallish, LED Bluetooth speaker is necessarily looking to do some critical listening anyway. In those respects, this speaker is definitely a good buy for a budget-conscious consumer/gift-giver looking for a few fun/snazzy features in their BT speaker. The fact that the Flare can take a spilled drink as easily as a dip in the pool is definitely a nice addition to its roster of features, and certainly a selling point for those looking for an action-capable speaker you wouldn’t be afraid to take on the go as sure as you’d be comfortable leaving it on your desk at work.

Sounds Great and Portable Speaker !

SoundCore Flare has a soft touch material and appears to be very sturdy. The big volume control buttons on the top are easy to use with Bluetooth, power and charging port on the side. The charging port and Aux port have a small cover that seals tight and prevents water from entering into this device. Also, I think the fabric finish has some internal lining that makes the speaker waterproof. It easily fits in your hand and the finish makes it a non-slippery grip. The lighting on the bottom can pulse to the beats of the song and change colors. You can also control different types for lighting by pressing the light button on the top of the speaker. The light is bright enough to add a little oomph to your dance parties. The sound quality is impressive and clear. I have not tried pairing it for phone calls yet. You can easily pair it with any Bluetooth supporting device (Phone, TV, etc) and the bass up technology will add a little more beat to the overall music. Unfortunately micro USB port is there for charging but a cable is provided for charging so that saves the hassle of buying micro USB cable. Hopefully Anker will soon stop using micro USB in its devices and will move to USB-C ports. SoundCore Flare gets quickly charged and has a great battery life. I have not experienced any overheating issues while charging or using the device. You can also downalod the soundcore app to control the LED light show and use some of the presets for sound variations. I would definitely take this on my next vacation to the beach.

Back a few years ago, I got the Soundcore mini (1st) and I loved this speaker still do I wouldn't of thought Anker's audio products wouldn't of been made into a audio brand ranging from headphones to speakers they've been known to me and few as a power bank company for years but then I noticed when I was in the store one day that they had a brand new speaker line that seemed to stand out not just for the price but also the look As I pointed out in my video I love my new Soundcore Flare but didn't find much for the app but the lights were a nice touch if you want to impress your friends at a party or get-together. I would of loved if they had Alexa built-in like I saw their sister companies ROAV did with one of their products who knows maybe it's a simple firmware fix they could give to all of us with this speaker When I was comparing this speaker for it's sound it was tough since they both sound terrific. I'm a big Edifier audio fan and love my Edifier MP280 Bluetooth speaker both speakers are great and have the same price point depending on what you want. I would go with the Soundflare for a more desktop or table experience while saving the Edifier MP280 for a bike or backpack trip since that speaker has a metal carabiner

Soundcore is a new division of Anker focusing on high end sound reproduction. This speaker is a good reflection of that emphasis. Sound quality is good, especially the highs. The bonus with this speaker is the light show. This would be a great speaker for parties. The lights can be adjusted to a wide variety of colors and rhythms. The speaker charged up quickly and paired very easily. The 360 sound feature is great if you want to put the speaker In the middle of the room. This is a great speaker at a great price. Anker quality and customer service can’t be beat. You know they will stand behind their products.

    A great 360 Speaker!

To start off I must apologize that I can only post one photo. I have multiples that I wanted to share, but I am only able to add one. If it changes, then I'll add more. :) So anyway to start off, the packaging when you first get it is not like the typical Anker style. It has changed and ks changed to the soundcore style, which is still nice. It is a soundcore product, so keep that in mind. But, you are not purchasing this for the box, so let's move on. I have the blue one and I must say that I really enjoy the shade of blue that it is. Very professional looking. The top has a very smooth rubber feel to it. The buttons are underneath and are not raised high but have small symbols that show where and what the buttons are. These are not easy to tell where they are without looking. Since this has lights, you want to use it in the dark, and it could be difficult to determine where the buttons are. Continuing down the device, the sides are fabric! Surprising in a waterproof speaker, but I really like this part. It is the number one part the I was surprised about. I love how this looks! Right at the bottom is the lights. Other reviewers have gone into depth about the ability to change the look, modes, and consistency in life time via the app, so I will not get caught up in this. But to glance over it, when you use this in the dark, it is very very cool! The lights are much brighter than I anticipated! The sound! It sounds amazing from all sides! (Given that it is a 360 speaker.) But it really does I could not tell a difference on any side of it. The app is a sweet addition to this speaker. I have had no problems with it. Not much to say that hasn't been said already. The cons, first as many people have stated, it is not USB-C. This is a bit of a downer, but not a deal breaker, just have to keep the cable around (or tons of the old cables that I have in a desk drawer). The second con for me would be the battery life. It is stated at 12 hours which is not bad, but with the Anker Soundcore 2 having a 24 hour battery life, it is a change. I can understand the drop due to the lights. So this is not horrible, will get you through most time that you will use it. In conclusion I would say if you are looking for a great sounding 360 speaker, and want the added lights, go with this one! You will not be disappointed!

    Bluetooth speaker with a flair

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This speaker can be used with or without the App. However, the App will give you options like sound modes (e.g., Chill and Vocal), firmware updates and pairing a second Flare for dual stereo. Size: It quite portable @ 6" in height and flipping it upside down makes it fit perfectly into my car's cup holder :D Looks: The fabric sheath adds a bit of class and protects the speaker from finger prints. The controls and ports are on opposite sides of the speaker. The LED light adds flair to the speaker, it reacts to music and it can be customized (color schemes) by using the App. The foot is made out of an anti-slip material. Sound: Very loud and clear with good bass. Activate the bass up mode for a bit of boost to the bass. It has 2 6W drivers and 2 passive radiators. Supports A2DP, AVRCP, HFP profile, and SBC decoding. At max volume, it still sounds pretty good. Bluetooth: 4.2, which limits its range to about 66ft. Pairing: Look for Soundcore Flare Bluetooth ID. Pairing was easy and quick. If you have 2 Flares, you can use the App to set up stereo mode. Supposedly without any delays between them. I don't have two, but I do have a different Soundcore Bluetooth speaker. Using Android's ability to pair multiple Bluetooth devices, I was able to get music to play from the two speakers, but one has a slight delay (1s?). I'm seriously considering jumping on a 2nd one as soons as I see a good discount on it :D Notable features: Flare will automatically turn off if it is not connected to a device within 30 minutes. About 12 hrs of playtime @ 60% volume Nitpicks: Micro USB port for charging. USB Type-C would have been great, provided that Anker includes a USB Type-C cable :D Tip: If you have trouble pairing the Flare with your device again, try deleting the Flare Bluetooth profile from your device and try pairing again.

There are a ton of BT speakers on the market. I chose this one to review as it seemed a decent size with a RBG strip on the bottom part. The product comes with a short micro usb cable and instructons only. Currently I have it plugged into my Xbox One X, so I can run the light show on my desk. Has a couple pre-programmed functions and one that goes with the beat of the music. First trhing I used it for was a call from my One Plus 6T and worked really well! Person whom I called could hear me great. Options for bass boost on top of the unit is available too. The negative would be when I tried to connect with my PC via BT, actually showed me what a blue screen on Win 10 looks like for the first time! I know right? Eventually I got it to connect but was not good, cutting out constantly. Assuming it was my PC's bt chip sucks as the connection with my phone is steller. Overall I recommend this speaker. I like it on my desk as a neat light show with occasional calls and playing music on it.

I own several bluetooth speakers. This one has one feature that none of my others have, its waterproof! With that being said, i think the technology focus was on that feature and not the sound. The sound is pretty middle of the road in my opinion. Have i heard worse, of course. Have i heard crisper and deeper base coming out of a bluetooth speaker, yes, plenty. Sound aside, the music matching light display is pretty neat to see and adds a nice touch to any dim get together, and its compact design makes it easy to toss into a bag for the pool. All in all, great design and features, but middle of the road sound.

I brought this speaker because is was as great cost. Initially it had great sound and could easily be ported around. The problem started when the blue tooth would not connect. The bluetooth button would flash and could not be paired with any device. I tried reseting the bluetooth by holding the bluetooth button down a few seconds that didn't work. I tired deleting the device off my phone and repairing it that didn't work. I tired downloading and updating it with a downlaod off the anker website. That didn't work. Now it will not power on at all even when I conndct the charger. the power button never comes on to show its connected or charging. I would have given the speaker four stars and been happy with my purchase. It's only been 1 month and I have not dropped or abused my device and it's completely stopped working. Because I was initially happy with the sound, price, and ease of portability. I'm still giving it 2 stars. It's a great device for my 975 sq ft apt. But just hope you don't get a defective device.

These speakers as unbelievably good for the price. The sound quality is great, and the volume is amazing for the size of this speaker. The fact that it's a 360 sound makes it even better because no matter where you place it, you'll listen perfectly. But the real magic starts when you connect two or more speakers, it'll blow your mind! You can customize a bunch of things including sound mode are LED colors using the app, which is very easy to use and looks greats. One of the best speakers I've ever used!

I have had this quite awhile now....so time for a review. I have ZERO quirks or complaints. Sounds great, bluetooth or wired. On the porch, in the shower...remember it is water resistant, not waterproof, so keep that in mind. You can crank it up without distortion. I couldn't care less about the lighting visuals, but yes they are kewl, too. (Not needed, but kewl) Battery charge lasts me at least 8 hours still, so I can deal with that unless I'm sitting in a corn field somewhere for a whole day. I'm pretty impressed and I'm a quality sound junkie. (Harmon Kardon receivers and Jamo speakers at home, so you can judge) As a matter of fact, I might buy 2-3 more for offices and garage, so I don't have to carry it everywhere. Good choice! IMHO 20+ year computer techie...58 year music junkie...
