When you hear the band Story of the Year you think of, "Until the Day I Die" from their first album Page Avenue. And when I picked up 'The Black Swan' I didn't think it would be able to beat 'Page Avenue' sorry 'In the Wake of Determination' you just don't match these two Albums. But 'The Black Swan' delivers more kick than Page Avenue, from their opening track 'Choose your Fate' with some awesome vocals and shredding of the guitars it just melts your face. Every song is pretty much on real-world issues, so the lyrics are pretty meaningful. Such as the track 'We're not gonna make it' talks about a inter-racial relationship and how they work it out in the real world with all the racism that is in our society. I do like the interlude in the album, it makes the closing track, 'Welcome to Our New War' so Epic. Every song is good, even the ballad 'Terrified' really speaks to you, especially if you know of someone if the war. Then you got the insane Shredding of guitars, 'The Antidote' and 'Cannonball' have some insane guitar solo's. And I can't forget Dan, the lead singer, he has some singing that will just make you want to get up and run around like a maniac, he's just that good. Overall I recommend this CD even if you aren't fan, because after you listen to this, you will be.

    Best SOTY album to date

This album is amazing! I didn't know they were coming out with a new album so when I saw it in the store I picked it up immediately knowing it would be worth it judging from their past albums, but still not knowing exactly what to expect by an album named "The Black Swan", but I was quickly proven wrong. It's different enough from the other albums to be distinct, but it takes the best of the first two albums and blends them into a great sound along with some new stuff. The songs are heavier and have catchy riffs. The dual guitar sound that they have going on has evolved with every album and it shows up on this album prominently. The lead singer sounds better than ever and the drums are simply amazing. I definetely recommend this album if you are a fan of SOTY or if you are looking for something with a heavy sound, good vocals, and excellent drums this is the album to pick up.

    It's About Time!

There are some songs on here that are reminiscent of the SotY that we've all come to know and love. There are also a couple songs on here that provide them with a little bit of a new sound--I actually thought they sounded like Hoobastank slightly at a couple points (which isn't a bad thing for me, I love Hoobastank). SotY is one of my favorite bands and this CD did not disappoint. I still like In the Wake of Determination better (probably one of my top 3 favorite CDs of all time) but this one still holds its own. I would definitely recommend this CD for any SotY fan--you will be very happy you bought this. But I'm sure you already have. I've been waiting for this since Summer 2005 when their last CD came out. IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!! SotY is back!!!

    Was it worth the wait?

I really, really looked forward to this cd coming out. I have followed SOTY for a while now and was bummed when they switched labels, because I knew it would take a little while longer to get a new album. So the anticipation grew once I found they had finished recording and such and finally released a single. Finally once I had the disc in hand, it really took a good 2-3 listens before it started growing on me. Now I have to say it was worth the wait. Although it could have been a little harder in some places. But at least the interlude with a Carl Sagan clip in there was awesome! Overall I would say go out and buy this if you are a fan of the band, or enjoy good catchy rock music, with a talented singer and song writer!! They continue to earn my respect.

Having heard the full album online, I've got to say Story of the Year really kicked things into high gear with this new album. It combines elements from both of their previous albums and the resulting sound is excellent. I can't think of any complaints with this album. If you like Story of the Year or rock in general, you have to check out "The Black Swan"

This album proves yet again that Story of the Year is a band to be reckoned with. The lyrics are well thought out with a clear purpose, and the driving drums and guitars just help take this album to an amazing level. Whether you're into pop-punk or music with a message or just something great to listen to, this album is for you. I would highly recommend it to any and all.

    regurgitated beats and politics

I really tried to like this album as much as I did their first two. The lead seems to scream his way through this album, and not in the rockin' kinda way. It's really dissapointing as a long time fan to see the band regress as well as jump on the political bandwagon. We come to listen to music, not politics.
