So far so good and no problems to report. The WD Backup is functional, but I had to figure out how to automate the "wake up" in order to do a late night backup. It would be nice if that was automatic. I like it that it stops spinning when not actively in use - why wear it out? I also wish there was a way to know what the files that it won't back up really are. There's a list of files that the software won't back up, and it makes sense, but still it would be good to know. Just do a search for them, right? That doesn't work, so they probably are protected files. Doesn't make me confident that the operating system is truly backed up. I partition my hard drive and put data on one drive, and OS on the other, and WD does show that both are backed up. Regardless, I will soon do an image of the operating system to make sure that I have a solid recovery capability of at least some point in time. Win 7 Pro on a Dell workstation.

Great drive for the price, reliable and good design. You might need to format it when you get it for it to work with a Mac, came formatted in NTFS. Hardware encryption is a really nice added bonus. I prefer WD versus Seagate (two of their drive have failed on me, I have yet to have any WD drive fail on me).

I now buy Western Digital drives exclusively - since a 3tb Seagate drive went belly up without warning. I've never had a problem with WD drives and over the years I've bought plenty of drives. Drives are cheap - make sure you have enough drives to back up your data. And use WD drives. Don't fall for the funny named stuff or the "fire proof" crud etc. - they usually have WD drives inside.

I bought this for my ps4.. I ran out of storage! I caught this on sale for $70..It has an ac cord which i prefer instead of sucking power out of the usb 3.0 drive directly. It was a good buy for the price although i wish i had bought the 4tb instead! You know how storage space is.. Buy 3tb really have 2.76! I like it.. I don't regret the purchase... And also it runs faster than the internal hard drive! Doesn't have on and off buttons though... Thats my only gripe.

I've purchased over 20 of these drives for client backups. Pros: Easy install. Plug and Play. Cons: The preformatted file system is not compatible with some Windows PCs. The BIOS sees it as a active HD and wants to boot to it, and the PC will stay locked in the POST screen until the drive is disconnected. The only fix is to reformat the HD with the NTFS file system. If you already have data stored on it, you'll need to save it before formatting.

This is a fairly hefty external drive, but the price was great and the storage space was great. I needed to replace an old external backup drive that failed and this drive fit the bill. It runs 24/7 and so far I haven't had any issues. Backups run like a charm and the drive is quite fast. Definitely wouldn't want to have to carry it around though.

This hard drive has been very reliable so far. I can't talk about the software that comes with it because I am using another backup software. But I can say that the software I'm using worked flawlessly with the hard drive. If you're looking for good reliable storage this will do great for you!
