I use this device as part of my home DR strategy. It is one of three layers of data recovery that I have deployed. Others being pure cloud and wi-fi personal cloud. I have a .5TB drive that is about 20% utilized on my laptop. Presently I am storing full disk images of all partitions on the laptop to the My Book, so that I could do a bitmap recovery/restore of my drive if need be. Backup of my laptop disk presently takes about 35 minutes. Of course, will take longer as my laptop disk fills. It was easy to configure and I could use a backup/imaging solution of my choosing ... no necessarily that one that was preloaded. I love this device! Gives me peace of mind!

Great back up disk and very easy to use, Great value, but size with a/c plug in was a little bulky for my application. If room was not an issue, hands down great back up disk.

Connecting and installing the drive is very easy and it worked right away. The WD backup software isn't as easy to use as Windows File History, but it does work OK.

I bought this for my new Xbox One X, to provide space for my rapidly expanding collection of games and apps. Installation was simple - pure plug and play. I had to have the console format the drive for its system, but it took just seconds to do. I have been using WD external drives for over 20 years now, and not once experienced a problem. I recommend this drive to anyone wishing to expand the drive capacity of their Xbox One X (or S).

A good quick external hard drive. Just miss the little LED that most of the previous drives had so you could see it working.

I was using a WD My Passport (4T) to put all my pictures on and also to back up my C: drive. I needed another drive to back up my pictures on that drive so I got the My Book (also 4T capacity) to back up my pictures. They both use the same software so compatibility was not an issue. I check on the progress every day and they are both working perfectly. The USB-3 was a good compromise to having a much faster SSD, but the price on those, for now, is a bit steep. The USB-3 is much faster than the older USB-2.

Good deal for 4TB backup drive

I found this drive on the shelf for a good price and it had a 3 year warranty which is much better than the typical 1 year warranties on most hard drives and better than a 2 year warranty. Longer warranties on hard drives typically mean better/longer reliability, which is important for hard drives storing irreplaceable files. I've been in the computer industry for decades and most standard hard drives I've owned (over a dozen) fail within 2 to 4 years. Only a couple have lasted more than 4 years reliably and those tend to be the more expensive pro drives. I’ve used this drive for a few weeks and my only complaints are that it is pre-formatted in exFAT format for compatibility with more devices. I didn’t realize this when I started transferring files from my old backup drive. It took much longer than usual and after some research I found the exFAT format is slower than NTFS for a lot of small files. I work with Windows PC’s mostly so when I get the chance, I will reformat the drive to NTFS to have better performance. The other “problem” with the drive is that it takes quite a few seconds to wake up if it’s been sitting idle. It has the slowest wake up time in all the drives I’ve owned, but since it is only a backup drive, that doesn’t matter too much. Also if you didn't know, this isn't a portable hard drive that only needs a USB connection to operate. It requires a power outlet for its power supply, but that also usually means these larger external drives use the same kind of "full-size" hard drives that desktop computers use, which are usually faster than the smaller laptop drives that portable hard drives use.
