If you need an external mass storage drive, I'd certainly recommend this behemoth. I primarily use this as a backup drive, and a storage drive for my Steam game collection. Now that Cox data-capped my connection, I just transfer game data over to my ssd instead of re-downloading. This drive is slow however, operating at 5400rpm, so large file transfers can take a minute. I didn't really factor that into my rating as I would hope that people aren't playing games on external/slow hdd's when the cost of solid state memory has dropped so far.

These little drives are great!!! I must have 5 or 6 of them. I use them primarily as backup drives but I have actually edited HD projects using these drives with no issues.

I found the 4TB model to be a good value. It provides a good amount of storage at a very reasonable price, and this unit is not very noisy when it's operating (as compared to the 8TB model which was much noisier).

Easy to set up and has worked well to back up our files. Plenty of room as it is 4 TB and and it was the right price

WD - My Book 4TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive is very reliable. It's perfect for backing up your files. Fast, Large and a no brainier to use. Just plug it in! that's it :)

This unit works just fine NOW. It was formatted EXT Fat. This caused my computer (Dell Inspiron, Windows 8.1) to hang on boot up if the drive was connected. I reformatted to NTFS and all is good. I back up to this as well as use Carbonite. Pictures, videos, and data are so important to keep safe. I turn this unit off after a backup so as to keep my files safe from the nasty guys with the encryption viruses.

I bought this drive for 2 tasks. Firstly to transfer all of my games and data from Xbox One to Xbox One X. Everything went smoothly and transfer rates were excellent. Secondly this drive is now my permanent iTunes library to support my MacBook Pro and save laptop disk space. Works every time it is plugged in and speed and response are seamless, as if I am using the internal MacBook drive. Price was excellent for storage space. Only downside is that this is too bulky to consider using as backup travel drive but I cannot knock a star off for this as it is not part of the intended use.

Had to buy one for my girlfriends little brother, very convenient for Xbox memory usage. Can’t go wrong with a deal like this.

This is a replacement for my 6 year old external hard drive. It is working fine so far with my MacBook Pro.

WD makes a good product. I have yet to have one of these My Books fail. I have one currently that is about 8 years old and doesn't shoe any signs of failure. I bought another one and backed everything up because I don't want to lose any data. It is just the smart thing to do. I upgraded my 8 year old WD My Book to a new one and I feel confident in my decision knowing that my valuable data such as family phots are safe. It is a good product.

Great price for much needed item as I am a photographer

I've read all the reviews here and on other sites about drive failures after just a few weeks or months, so I may have to downgrade my rating at some point. But so far, the drive has been performing very well, and meets all my needs for expansion storage. I can't comment on performance, since I'm running it with USB 2.0 and using it just for non-compute intensive light duty file storage, but again, for my needs it's what I need.

I bought this to use it with my Xbox One as external storage to supplement the internal storage. Easy to unpack, works with the Xbox system and well worth the price.

This thing is very easy to navigate and has a ton of memory. Storage is phenomenal and I will continue to back up everything on to this device .
