I’ve been using the 49” Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SC) for a while now, and while it offers an impressive visual experience on paper, my experience has been mixed. Pros: • Stunning OLED Display: The image quality is undeniably beautiful—deep blacks, vibrant colors, and excellent contrast. It’s immersive, especially in games that support ultra-wide resolutions. • 240Hz Refresh Rate: Smooth performance, especially when paired with a high-end GPU. Perfect for fast-paced games like Fortnite. • Curve & Size: The 49-inch ultrawide form factor is great for multitasking and immersive gaming. It’s like having two monitors in one. Cons: • Flickering and Black Screen Issues: I’ve dealt with frequent flickering and random black screens. Sometimes I’ve had to unplug and replug the monitor just to get it working again. That’s unacceptable at this price point. • Smart Features Are Annoying: The built-in Smart Hub feels unnecessary for a PC monitor. It adds bloat and delay. I don’t want ads or app suggestions on my display—just a clean, responsive experience. • Glossy Screen: The glare is brutal. Any light source in your room will reflect right back at you. Matte would have been a better choice for productivity and general use. Overall: If you want the best image quality and don’t mind tweaking your setup to deal with quirks, this monitor delivers on performance. But for me, the issues with reliability and poor user experience on the software side make it hard to recommend without major caveats. After they released the newest firmware update it seems to have fixed some of the issues. I hope the next update doesn’t break anything else. At this price, I expected more polish.

The screen size is monstrous, and the OLED display is beautiful. However, I’ve had this for about six months, and it randomly stops recognizing my computer as being connected. I had to give up entirely on using the DisplayPort cable. The port on the monitor seems to have stopped working. I know it’s not my graphics card or cable because I can connect it to a different monitor and have no issues. Until I have the time to call Samsung, I’m just using an HDMI cable. I paid $1400 for it while it was on sale. I would not purchase it again. I DEFINITELY would not recommend paying full price for it. This is supposed to be a luxury product, I paid a luxury price, and I am extremely disappointed with it. I also hate the Smart TV “features” I just wanted the OLED display for gaming.

I upgraded from a UHD 27" 60Hz screen to the Odyssey G8, then I upgraded again a few months later to this monitor, the Odyssey G9. Theses decisions were made after hours of online research about competing models. I got the monitor for $1,200 during a sale. It is a beautiful screen, and I love gaming at 240Hz, as the G8 I had before this only reached ~180Hz. There are moments with real wow-factor, like when playing Cyberpunk, BF2042, BG3. On the other hand, many games don't support 32:9 aspect ratios, or are not meaningfully enhanced by going fullscreen in 32:9. In the end of the day, I am very satisfied with my monitor purchase, even with my G8 becoming relegated to a secondary screen. If you have enough money to float this purchase, and you are okay with the extravagant widescreen only enhancing some experiences, I'd recommend it. My previous upgrade to the G8, and this upgrade to the G9 are part of a larger investment into my gaming setup. I also recently built a PC with high end components. I mention this to advise further on this purchase for other young folks. Roughly a year ago I got my first job in my area of study, at which point I was destitute financially. I badly wanted to upgrade my pc, but I waited and saved until I had a financial safety net of at least 6 months worth of expenses. If I had instead spent on my pc before saving, I would have enjoyed it less, as the security of a backup plan enhances all aspects of life. When I bought the G9 I was worried about reliability, but my life became better when I decided not to worry about that and to just enjoy the monitor. You really only do live once, so you may as well live in 5120x1440 @240 Hz in HDR.
