A: She will need the Smartthings Hub for this outlet. I only have experience with these since I have a SmartThings hub, but there are some smart outlets that don't require a hub, do a search for Smart Outlet on Best Buy and on the left where it lets you choose filters, choose Hub not needed. It will show you all the different ones that don't need Hub

Q: Is this capable of handling a washing machine??
A: Yes it will.

A: This is a Zigbee device and could be a repeater for other Zigbee devices, but will not repeat any WiFi signals.
