Colin Higgins directs Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton in the musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, which comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. Spanish and French subtitles are accessible, and the soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include the theatrical trailer, a making-of featurette, and outtakes. This is a solid release from Universal that should please genre enthusiasts as well as fans of the lead performers.
This is a great movie when you want to watch something entertaining and upbeat. There isn't any profanity. It's a great little musical with a theme to it. Don't let the title fool you, it's tastefully done. It appeals to both men and women. The "Chicken Ranch" becomes a target of an upcoming political nomination and the movie covers how some folks living in the small town in Texas where the ranch is located try to save the historical place.
