love it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony is re-releasing The Real Ghostbusters after the Time-Life edition of the cartoon has been out of print for several years. Each disc in this five disc set can be purchased separately, but it's much cheaper to purchase the boxed set. The next set of five discs will be out in September and that will leave enough episodes for volumes 11-15. If we get two more boxed sets like these, the overall costs will be approximate to the Time-Life Collector's set when it originally came out and a fraction of what that complete set currently goes for from third part retailers. So overall, if you missed out on the Time-Life version this is a decent purchase, but with room for improvement. There are 11-12 episodes on each disc for a total of 58. I'm not sure why two discs only have 11 episodes as they could have easily fit in and it would have made things a perfect 60 episodes. This is all the more important when you realize the episodes are in chronological order and save for two episodes from Season 1 and 2 which are missing. They are just skipped right over for some reason. These episodes are "Slimer, Come Home" which should be with the season 1 disc (but that would put things at 13 on this disc) and "Adventures in Slime and Space." While it's great to have these episodes, including the original Lorenzo Music voiced Peter in the Christmas episode instead of the redubbed Dave Coulier version, the picture quality is not as good as the Time-Life version. This is because they've crammed a lot more episodes on each disc so the visual quality had to lose something in this translation. Think of it like a Cookie Jar or Mill Creek cartoon release, where you are getting a lot of episodes for a lot less money, but the quality suffers. Still, if you know this going in, you won't be too upset. That said, I really feel they should have remastered these episodes for this release as the age, wear and tear really shows at times. Hopefully the Heathcliff set I'll be picking up in August from Mill Creek won't share a similar fate. So yes, the visual quality has taken a hit and two episodes are missing from the chronological order, but 58 episodes of The Real Ghostbusters for 30-46 dollars (depending on where and when you purchase this) is a really good deal no matter how you slice things. It's still less than a dollar per episode, which is fantastic, especially if you go looking for the Time Life set and its third party overpricing. I'm glad I picked this up for as cheap as a I did and I'm hoping the next wave of five releases get a bundled boxed set as wel

Great introduction to my childhood
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I grew up in the 80s with tons of 80s cartoons ranging from he man, ninja turtles and more but this one was def one of my favorites. i remember laughing at all the humor mostly from peter and being scared too by some of the ghost. i had a complete series box set before but had to sell it to make some extra money. but when i saw the price for 5 disc set i had to get it so i could have some of my childhood back. the best episodes in my opinion were from the first season syndicated version before ABC started to do them. then when it was changed over to Slimer and the real ghostbusters, the quality seem to go down hill including different voice actors. but overall the series gets 3 out of 4 stars for me and this box set is def 4 out of 4 stars for me.

The Real Ghostbusters Animated Series
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of the many animated shows I really liked watching as a kid and still really like watching now as an adult. I had been thinking about buying it for a while and when I saw it was finally reasonably priced I had to buy it. Plus this animated series is a whole lot better than some of the ones that are on tv today.

More than nostalgia
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I found this set while roaming through Best Buy one day. Yes, I shopped in an actually store! ;p I couldn't resist the impulse buy as I was a huge fan of the franchise when I was a kid. It has aged and doesn't pack the same punch it did when I was strapping my own Proton Pack on and hunting for imaginary ghosts in my backyard with my dog but it was still good enough to entertain me on more than a nostalgic level. My only gripe is that the set only has half of the series. Volumes 6-10 are also being sold but not in a boxed set just yet. Still, half of the series for $30 is a pretty good deal. Give in and buy it if you're a fan.

Not a complete transfer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.1. The set is missing episodes from the corresponding seasons like Slimer Come Home. 2. The discs do not include the bumpers where the logo, voiced by Aresno Hall interjects. 3. The transfer is lower quality than the original box set...which is a total bummer. With that being said, it is still the greatest cartoon of all time!

A show ahead of its time
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Real Ghostbusters is a treat. The first few seasons were very witty and worked hard to maintain a lot of the mythos set up by the Ghostbusters film. Some of the baddies are genuinely scary and the idea that the team only needed the tools and the talent to fix the problem (not being some sort of chosen ones) makes it easy for kids to identify with working to solve their own problems. Anyone could be a Ghostbuster.

Nostalgia Overload
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you were lucky to be a kid in the 80's you'll know this was one of the coolest Saturday morning shows. This is a good purchase for those who missed out on the initial timelife release of the series. This contains the first two seasons of the series with no extra features . Season three & four have been scheduled to be released later this year. This is a great addition to your ghostbusters collection.

Childhood fave
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This cartoon takes me back to Saturday morning cartoons. Yes, at one time if you wanted to watch cgreat cartoons, you had to wake up early on Saturday. This set, while lacking the extras, is still a good version for a great price. For those like me who often don't watch the extras, buy this set.
