  • Key Specs
    • Wireless Standard: N (The wireless networking protocol used by the device. Each iteration of the protocol is based on the 802.11 standard developed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Standards Association. Denoted by letters following 802.11 (802.11a, 802.11ac, etc.), each version, published in alphabetical order, encompasses all previous versions.)
    • Form Factor: Mountable (The size, arrangement, and physical configuration of the product.)
    • Frequency Band: 2.4 GHz (Bands may be grouped into categories such as low- and high-band VHF (Very High Frequency), low- and high-band UHF (Ultra High Frequency), or certain frequency channels (measured in MHz or GHz). Generally, higher frequencies transmit information faster but have shorter range than lower frequencies.)
    • Antenna Type: Internal
    • Number of Antennas: 2
    • Number of LAN Ports: 1 (Number of devices able to be connected to the Local Area Network (LAN). LAN ports allow wired connections to other networking devices (wireless access points, range extenders, etc.) in order to share the internet connection received through a WAN port.)
    • Number of PoE (Power over Ethernet) Ports: 1 (Allow connection of a single cable that provides both data connection and electrical power (Power over Ethernet).)
    • Wireless Networking Standard: Wi-Fi 4 (The wireless networking standard used by the device. Each iteration of the standard developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance corresponds to an existing IEEE 802.11 protocol; for example, standard 802.11ac (or AC) is termed Wi-Fi 5. Refers specifically to the standard the device is designed to use, but ultimately determines product interoperability and backward compatibility including previous versions.)
  • General
    • Product Name: N300 Wi-Fi Range Extender with Ethernet Port
    • Brand: TP-Link
    • Model Number: TL-WA850RE
  • Network
    • Minimum Frequency: 2400 megahertz (The lowest signal frequency that the device is able to amplify or transmit. The higher the frequency, the more data that can be transmitted and the more easily the signal is attenuated (weakened over distance/passing through buildings).)
    • Maximum Frequency: 2.4835 gigahertz (The highest signal frequency that the device is able to amplify or transmit. Generally, the higher the frequency, the more data that can be transmitted and the more likely the signal is attenuated (weakened over distance/passing through buildings).)
    • Maximum Coverage Area: 11000 square feet
    • Wireless Networking Standard: Wi-Fi 4 (The wireless networking standard used by the device. Each iteration of the standard developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance corresponds to an existing IEEE 802.11 protocol; for example, standard 802.11ac (or AC) is termed Wi-Fi 5. Q: Would a wifi repeater increase download speed of articles I want to see on my computer.

A: No, WiFi extenders are designed to increase the range of WiFi coverage in your home, not specifically to increase your connection speed. That being said, in some scenarios, improving coverage for devices in dead zones can improve overall WiFi experience. Regards, TP-Link Support

Q: Should this also work with Xfi Xfinity Gateway modem as well in which is what I have.

A: Yes, our WiFi extenders are universally compatible with WiFi routers. Please bear in mind that if your gateway is dual-band (both 2.4GHz and 5GHz), you may want to consider one of our dual-band extender options. Regards, TP-Link Support

Q: I bounce off my neighbor's wifi that's across the street, will this work

A: Yes, as long as the extender is placed in an area where the source WiFi signal is sufficiently strong. Regards, TP-Link Support

Q: I play video games on my laptop in my room and my router is downstairs. I have horrible reception since I’m not plugged into an ethernet. If I plug this into an outlet in my room and then use the ethernet cord to connect my laptop, would connection be good

A: Theoretically, it may help; however please bear in mind that WiFi extenders repeat the quality of signal they receive. If your router's signal is poor in your room, there's a chance the extender may repeat that same quality of signal. That being said, if the extender can capture a better signal than your laptop, you may see an improvement. Regards, TP-Link Support

Q: I have a printer with an Ethernet port, can I use this device to connect the Ethernet port to my router with WIFI instead OFTHE Ethernet cable. Essentially using WIFI to extend the Ethernet cable.

A: Yes, simply set up the extender per the included instructions and connect it via Ethernet to your printer to connect the printer to your network. Regards, TP-Link Support

Q: Can you disable the DHCP server on this?

A: Once setup, the extender does not provide DHCP; it relies on your router's DHCP server. Regards, TP-Link Support

Q: I have a fire stick with this work with that is this stand it will give me more power

A: If you are experiencing connectivity issues due to low or poor WiFi signal on your Fire Stick, then yes, a WiFi extender such as this one can help improve WiFi coverage, range, and stability. Regards, TP-Link Support
