A: This 14 T drive is rather new, so I can't attest to its longevity. I do, however, have several of the other WD My Book drives, and they have been in constant use for a number of years, the oldest probably around 8 to 10 years. I've never had a problem with any of them. They also have a feature in the WD Drive Utilities software that checks the drive and can tell you if there are any potential drive failures.

A: Different tiers of hdd inside. The cheaper one has a lower quality drive with less warranty. I think the wd my books come with their red label drives.

Good, but not the same?
I have two of these. They are a bargain, but.. . I like NEVER having to worry about space available. I have had good luck with Western Digital drives. Seagate drives, by comparison, are much less reliable. This new purchase behaves differently than the apparently identical drive I already have. The new one is much noisier. It also takes much longer to ‘wake up’ and respond. It seems to go inactive more, though supposedly this is controlled by the computer. Different hardware inside the plastic housing? Seems likely. Well, 4 stars seems about right for this,

Great drive for the money. Only WD Drives for me.
Pretty good value for what I paid for it. Refuse to buy anything but WD external drives anymore. Have 6 or 7 total. Haven’t had any issues with WD but Seagates have failed. The WD My Book drives seem rather rugged, solid and well built.
