The printer is quiet and fast. It holds a full pack of paper. The print quality seems fine and it was painless to install. The printer software came on a disk, Just let it load, plug in the printer and print your document. I love it when things work the way they're expected. Perfect printer for a college student. I have this in my room and it makes printing much easier. iI can print a stack of 50 pages before you can blink. in black and white, of course. I wouldn't use this for anything other than text documents. HOWEVER, the cartridge that is included barely lasted me 100 sheets before it needed to be replaced. Don't waste your money on the brother cartridges, I bought some grey knockoff ones on amazon (two of them for $30 or so), and so far they have lasted way longer than the included one, with no loss in quality.

      Brother makes the best printers.

I bought this printer primarily based on the fact that it is a Brother, and Brother sells good printers. I have previously owned Canon, HP, Lexmark, Epson and Samsung and can't really recommend any of the above. Hopefully this is the last printer I buy. The price was right. It prints on both sides automatically, (you may have to check a box in the print dialogue once for 'double sided printing' or some similar phrase, but once you click it once, it should stay activated by default, until you want to disable it for some reason.) Initial setup was easy and it took less than 10 seconds to fire up the first print. This printer may not have come with a USB cable, but that's okay because the printer that it replaced was already using that type of cable, and I have several of such cables lying around because they only seem to be good for printers and one webcam from 20 years ago. I did not bother inserting the CD and installing all the extra software, just using the basic driver that windows found and I'm happy with it. I unplugged the all-in-one printer/scanner/copier from the computer and plugged this in, so anything printed from the PC will use toner, and the only ink used in the printer will be that used for making copies.

This printer is fast and reliable. It prints an average of 30 ppm. It takes roughly five seconds from the time I click print to the time the page is in my hand. I have printed roughly 200 documents and have not had one dropped yet. The toner is reasonably cheap too. I can find a four pack on eBay for a little over $30. It has a print average around 2,500 pages. It also has a toner-saving setting, which I have not used. It only printed black and white. The only drawback to the printer: it does not have a LAN port. It can only be connected by USB. It can still be shared over a network but it constantly occupies a USB, which matters if desk space or the number of available USB ports is an issue. Bottom line: I would buy this printer again for nearly any purpose. Also, this printer was $59 on Black Friday which made the deal even sweeter.

I purchased this because it got good reviews and I needed a mono printer with a manual feed. Unfortunately, about 90% of the pages I feed manually come out crooked. No matter how many times I try to adjust the feed, it spits them out crooked so I have had to reprint over and over. Since I do one page at a time, opening and closing the oversized paper drawer is not a convenient option. I tried to go online to Brother to locate customer service but it's a catch 22. Chat? Not available. Call? No number was provided on their website. I asked Best Buy if they had one and was given a number that led to one stupid "special offer" after another. I was referred to the Geek Squad to schedule an appointment to look at this however printers was not one of the options provided. Go figure.

Well how about this... it's not and HP printer product..... I have owned both for business and pleasure and believe me brother out preforms and out last HP printers.... I can not say anything about the others but brother has been the one for me. My favorite is when the machine starts telling you your toner is out But it keeps printing tell the very last drop before stopping you, this is a money saver... HP printers will stop you at some point... I have never had to replace a drum in any of my business brother printers that I have had for 8+ years however at some point it did go and I promptly replaced it with the whole machine with this one Brother - HL-L2320D.. Cheers.

My HP Photosmart printer was older and no longer worked consistently. I needed a basic black-and white printer. I wasn't printing photos and no longer needed color and didn't need a scanner. At work I had a Brother laser printer that was a workhorse. I decided on a Brother. After reading all the reviews on this printer and finding only a few complaints about the noisiness of the printer, I made the decision to purchase it. I love this printer! Clean, crisp print. Acceptable speed. Small enough in size to fit conveniently on the desk. It met my needs exactly. I have already recommended it (and Brother printers in general) to friends. And the noise? What printer doesn't make noise? I don't find it any different than other laser printers. If you're looking for a basic black-and-white printer that delivers a quality print job, look no further.

      Good, "old school" workhorse printer

This printer is just what I was looking for. My husband is a writer, and my daughter is a graphic artist. Unfortunately, she frequently runs out of color ink on our other printer, which then doesn't print in black either (for him) until the color is replaced. So... I got hubby this printer, and he loves it. Heads up: it can't copy, it's not as inexpensive as some low-end color printers, and it doesn't have bluetooth/networking. (It uses an "old school" cord, which is not included). But... where the others really get you with the cost of replacing ink, this one has a much cheaper and more dependable option -- toner. Now he can print as much as he wants (which is a LOT), way faster than before, and cheaper than any other printer we've ever had. So, if you need to do a lot of fast, cheap (but sill good quality) printing in just black, this printer is a great option. We're very satisfied.

      Disappointed

I was so excited about this printer's ability to print double sided, it worked well for the first five pages but that's all. After this I kept getting error message after error message. I called customer support and was on hold for about 20 minutes before anyone would talk to me, then I was talking to a representative who was acting as if I was dumb because I did not know the names of all of the parts of my printer. Finally he attempted to fix the problem, but it came back the very next time I printed. I would not recommend this printer nor would I recommend buying from Brother due to their terrible customer service.
