Great Ice Machine … Great Ice
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received my ice maker and quickly set it up on my kitchen counter. The setup was simple and didn’t take long to go through the cleaning cycle. Immediately upon turning it on, the loud noise is obvious and you will not miss it. The reviews are correct on the noise. It’s not broken, it’s basically the machine making ice. It will make ice until it fills the ice bin or you turn it off. Now after setting it up, I left for about 4 hours or so.. when I came back it was filled with ice. I mean completely filled and the noise stopped because the ice bin was filled. I was amazed how fast it makes ice. I had an event with about 9 friends over and it didn’t run out of ice. So the noise is a little loud but the operation, great look, and of course the pellet ice makes it an appliance I will keep and love. A little on the pricey side but will recommend the product. The ice making noise is my only con but everything else is a plus. I love my ice maker and oh my god; I love the ice.

Outstanding Ice Maker with Nugget Ice Perfection!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased the GE Profile Opal 2.0 Portable Ice Maker, and it has exceeded all my expectations. From its sleek stainless steel design to its impressive nugget ice production, this machine is a game-changer for any kitchen. The built-in WiFi feature is incredibly convenient, allowing me to control and monitor the ice maker from my phone. The nugget ice it produces is perfect for drinks, keeping them cool without diluting them too quickly. It's also great for those who love to chew on ice – soft yet satisfying. Setup was straightforward, and the machine started producing ice quickly. It's relatively quiet and fits perfectly on my countertop. The 38 lb. capacity is more than enough for my family's needs, even when entertaining guests. Overall, I highly recommend the GE Profile Opal 2.0 for anyone in need of a reliable, high-quality ice maker. It has truly enhanced our daily routines and gatherings.

A Cool Addition to the Family
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Opal 2 Ice Maker has quickly become the MVP of our kitchen — and, according to my wife, possibly the best gift I’ve ever given her (I’ll take that win!). If you’re a fan of those soft, chewable nugget-style ice cubes that somehow make every drink taste better, this machine is a game-changer. Since bringing it home, it’s been a magnet for family and friends. Every guest who spots it in action asks, “Where did you get that?” — and I’m more than happy to point them in the right direction. Pro tip: shop smart and you can snag it at a great price. In short, the Opal 2 isn’t just an ice maker; it’s a family favorite, a conversation starter, and (if you ask my wife) possibly the greatest appliance of all time. Highly recommend!

I finally have the "Good Ice" & im not going back
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As absurd as this next statement may sound I now understand what people mean when they speak about the "good ice". I won't bore you with all the detailed specs as you could read them on this page or on GE's website but as far as ease of use and speed of ice production, I give this an 11 out of 10 it is something I didn't know I needed so badly that now my family cannot live without.... I haven't quite figured out the best way to display it yet as I really didn't want it to be just sitting on my countertop, although it is aesthetically pleasing enough that if you have no other choice, it's not going to detract from your kitchen/bar area especially compared to other similar ice machine units from other manufacturers, this GE opal, especially in the black stainless steel color really knocks it out of the park and is the best looking unit. The only complaint I would have to give even though as far as I understand this is an issue with all home icemakers is the cleaning process. I literally dread this process and where I live in South Jersey we have it pretty easy water wise as I don't have to de-scale it at all, as there is no hard water build up in machine almost 6 months in. One thing I did notice is that even after just a couple days of use after cleaning it if you feel the bottom of the holding tank (i'm not talking about the extra side tank I'm talking about just the main holding tank under the ice tray) it feels a little too slimy for my comfortability, and I even rigged up the machine so that it runs off of my reverse osmosis system that is re-mineralized (as the reverse osmosis process removes even the healthy minerals) so as an added piece of mind, I purchased the extra filter you can get for like $18 on Amazon that goes in the bottom of that holding tank instead of that little stupid good for nothing square screen and since then I've been able to get away with about 3 to 4 weeks before I have to do a complete clean, which involves completely filling the main holding tank and draining it 3 to 4 times while running a cleaning cycle the first of which includes a teaspoon of just regular bleach. The whole process takes about 30 to 40 minutes and it is not really that bad it's just more of an annoyance, but I'll deal with that small annoyance for the availability of great tasting fresh ice whenever I want it. I find myself drinking than usual and I do not regret this purchase one bit. also, I should mention that this is my second unit as the first unit I purchased broke about five months in and replaced it. No problem after I allowed them to put a $400 hold on my credit card to ensure that I sent back my old malfunctioning unit but since then it has been smooth sailing. Best of luck and congratulations to anybody who purchased it and welcome to the world of the "good ice" hahaha

GE Profile - Opal 2.0 24 lb. Portable Ice Maker
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this ice maker! It's easy to use and clean. The ice is very good. However, it takes 3 hours to make 3 lbs of ice, and it's a little pricey.

Posted .Hey there, and thanks for taking the time to leave a review! We're so glad you love your ice maker, and have found it easy to use and clean. We do regret that you're not happy with the rate of ice production and the price, however. The Opal is indeed designed to produce approximately one pound of fresh ice per hour, and the pricing can depend on multiple factors including availability. Your concerns will be shared with our team for future review. We're confident this Opal will supply you with great ice for a long time to come, and we're wishing you all the best! -Sarah@GEA

Improved over earlier model
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a replacement for an Opal bought in 2020, and so far, it seems to have been improved over the earlier model. This one has been much quieter and replaces ice at a faster rate than the original one. We live in a hard water area, and I notice the instructions have been rewritten to emphasize the importance of de-scaling the icemaker regularly. I do think that de-scaling every three weeks it critical to keeping the ice maker operating. Our family of four really enjoys the ice that this machine produces.

Q: Questionhow long does it last till it quits making ice?
Asked by alleyopp13.
- A:Answer Our family friend and I both bought ours in 2018. They bought theirs in November and we bought ours in December. Theirs quit working in August and ours quit in September. We cleaned it regularly. It was the first generation but still, one would think it should work longer than 3 years for the money.

Q: QuestionWhat is the difference between the 1.0 and the 2.0?
Asked by Jeniffer.
- A:Answer The ice bin is more secure on 2.0 — with double pane plastic front and plastic grab ledge for open. There isn’t a on/off button in the front of 2.0. The intake hose on the back is in a better location on 2.0. 2.0 is dark grey, rather than black. The fan vents are a slightly different configuration. 2.0 doesn’t use the bulky filter that cost $30 each. Unit 2.0 has been quieter than 1.0. Use a mixture of distilled water with tap water to avoid calcium deposits along seams of the unit. I’d like to get some special techo-thank-you from BestBuy for my insightful answers.

Q: QuestionCan the side tank reservoir be added to this one if it is purchased separately?
Asked by Opal.

Q: QuestionJust purchased this for Christmas. We do not have the side tank. The hose are properly secured on the back, but this unit is leaking water out of the bottom. I love the ice, but will not keep if it leaks. Please help
Asked by Jacob3018.
- A:Answer Hello. We appreciate you choosing our Opal ice maker, though we regret that you’re having an issue with the unit leaking. We know this must be frustrating, especially as it's new - we’d like to help. We do expect that some condensation may form, resulting in water dripping under the ice bin. This water might sometimes collect and drip down the lower front surface of the ice maker. If this is where the leak is, installing the drip tray to collect the water might help. If you believe the leak you’re seeing isn’t normal, we do have Opal Support available at 1-866-907-6718; those specialists can certainly assist further. We hope this is solved for you soon, and we're always available if you have any other concerns or questions. All the best. -Sarah@GEA

Q: QuestionDo you fill it with water, and if so, what kind? I have a lot of lime iin my water, and would like to use jugs of water from the store.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Hi there - Thanks for reaching out to us about what kind of water to use for your Opal icemaker. The manual for this unit states that you should use drinking water that has less than 12 grains of hardness per gallon. Using water that is not within these standards will void your warranty so please ensure you are using the correct water. We know you're going to love this icemaker and we're sure it will serve your needs for a long time to come. Reach out to us again should you have additional questions. Kind regards. -Kacie@GEA
