Q: Does this have an Ethernet port?

A: No. Other models in the HyperDrive lineup do BUT BE AWARE that the HDMI ports on those units are only 4k@30Hz. This new model here is 4k@60Hz. Important to know what you are sacrificing.

Q: Will this accessory work with MacBook Air 2020?

A: Yes, this will work with MacBook Air 2018/2019/2020 as well as Macbook Pro 16" 2019, MacBook Pro 15" 2016/2017/2018/2019 and MacBook Pro 13" 2016/2017/2018/2019/2020.

Q: Will this accessory work with the brand new MacBook Air M1?

A: Yes, this will work with the MacBook Air M1.

Q: The photo here on Best Buy for the previous HyperDrive Duo shows 1 Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1 Type A ports but the description shows USB 3.0 Type A ports and TWO Thunderbolt 3 ports, and for this one there is no mention of Thunderbolt 3 ports nor USB 3.1?

A: The 40Gbps port is indicative of Thunderbolt 3 speed. So just like the original HyperDrive Duo, this one has one USB-C port capable of delivering Thunderbolt 3 speeds (as long as you're using an appropriate Thunderbolt 3 cable and the device you're plugging in is also Thunderbolt 3-compatible) plus 100W of Power Delivery, and one USB-C port capable of delivering 5Gbps speeds (plus 60W of Power Delivery, which the first version did not support on this port). As for the USB-A ports, you need to understand that "USB 3.0" and "USB 3.1 gen 1" are basically synonymous. They mean the same thing. So whether it says 3.0 or 3.1 gen 1, it means that the ports are capable of 5Gbps (you don't get to the next speed tier, 10Gbps, unless you have USB 3.1 gen 2). Nothing has changed in that regard on the new version. The company that makes this device, Sanho, only markets the new version's USB-A ports as "5Gbps" on their website (they don't use 3.0 or 3.1 gen 1 terminology), so they basically remain unchanged. So, overall, the only real difference in the ports between the old and new versions of the HyperDrive Duo is that the 5Gbps USB-C port now can deliver up to 60W of power, and supposedly the HDMI port is capable of delivering up to 4K @ 60Hz instead of just 4K @ 30Hz (which was not my experience, however ... see my posted review).

Q: Will this work with a MacBook? I just bought a new model a little before Christmas and it only has 2 usb-c ports on the left side, I was hoping this would line up and work with it?

A: Yes, it is designed to work with the new MacBook Pro. Plugging the adaptor into those two ports allows you to expand out.

Q: Will the accessory connect/fit properly with an Incase shell on a MacBook Pro 16 inch?

A: yes for me i have a clear shell case and it still works. however it doesn't plug all the way in

Q: Will the USB Type A port(s) power an Apple SuperDrive? Their DVD/CD reader/writer?

A: You can not connect it through regular usb. You will need a message on your laptop “not enough power for Apple accessories” Solution- you need to purchase usb-c adapter for the drive and use the top usb-c port on the hub.

Q: Will the USB a ports provide power? I need to plug in my audio interface which uses USB A to provide phantom power to my xlr mics

A: I do not believe this will work. As with apple devices, such as a SuperDrive that requires power through USB, it shows a message on screen that the port does not provide enough power for connected device. You may want to try using a usb A to usb C adapter and using the power pass through port.
